Favourite meat for a roast?

Inspired by another threat in which lots of people seem to have pork joints for dinner today

What's your go to meat/protein for a roast or Sunday lunch?

My household never has pork, none of us like it, we will either have chicken or lamb
I'm curious to know what others are having, I know a few people who have fish, a colleague of mine has salmon with baby potatoes every Sunday, his version of a Sunday roast

Would also be interesting to know if vegans have a good version of a Sunday roast

I always go for Roast Beef. I really like roast chicken but if out, I am nervous about if its served on the bone which I don't like.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 20/11/2022 09:23

We try and rotate, DD will eat any meat, DS will have chicken and beef, when we have lamb or pork then I do extra veggies and potatoes for him

Notsympatheticenough · 20/11/2022 09:24

Not pork.

roast chicken is easy, tasty and frankly can’t be beaten.

if can get a decent joint then beef is lovely but often disappointing.

lamb is my favourite but I like it butterflied on the bbq and medium rare…and the rest of family aren’t keen on it.

Lamb is my favourite but it's expensive so we save it for Christmas day. Chicken or pork is our usual. I prefer chicken dh prefers pork.

As long as its homemade gravy I'm happy with anything
Sausage meat stuffing not dust where you add water & proper yorkies not frozen ones
Extra points for pigs in blankets
I'm a bit obsessed as we don't normally eat meat Grin

Pork or lamb here. Pork today! Crackling is the best bit 😍

That sounds lovely! My dad makes a chestnut stuffing with sausage meat and it's the best thing since sliced bread in my eyes, I am guilty of using the packaged dust stuffing on a regular basis though and frozen yorkies, it just makes my life easier

We will have beef, pork, lamb or chicken. We eat a lot of chicken so that is the least likely to be used for a 'proper' roast

SnoopLabbyLab · 20/11/2022 09:39

All the meats. But the origin and cut matters.

Top three in ascending order:

Pheasant with Cumberland sauce ( preferably with a brace of phessies left on the doorstep in thanks for a favour).

Haunch of venison (we have a venison herd close by and I know they are culling as ddog appeared from a bush with a leg on his walk yesterday, so there’ll be deer in the farm shop next week)

Forerib of beef with all the trimmings cooked with love (and not a little drama) by my lovely DH

OMG@SnoopLabbyLab yesssssssssss ! You have raised the bar and won the thread 👏

We usually have chicken, my favourite along with lamb. We have slow cooker and cook beef in that before final small roast sometimes, same with ham. Husbands favourite is beef or pork.

FuckabethFuckor · 20/11/2022 09:52

All of the meats

Scoundrella · 20/11/2022 09:53

Lamb but it’s far too expensive now so only at Christmas or my birthday

pork or chicken next. I slow roast both so the meat is always so soft and falls apart / off the bone. It’s delicious

not a roast beef fan so never have that. Sometimes do a salt beef brisket but not sure that counts

gogohmm · 20/11/2022 09:54

I like them all, lamb is my favourite but it's expensive - pork shoulder therefore is my go to, I cook a decent sized one, around £8 these days from the supermarket, and it does 3 full meals. (3 adults)

DemsDaRulz · 20/11/2022 09:57

Sounds lush @Nectarpeach where did he get the recipe from , do you know ?

What do you mean by served on the bone. How can you have roast chicken without bones? Or do you mean you just slice the meat off at home before serving.

CourtneeLuv · 20/11/2022 10:01

My favourite is lamb.

For an everyday roast, chicken as it seems easier.

NashvilleQueen · 20/11/2022 10:02

Only ever rib of beef. All other cuts are underwhelming.

Leg of lamb.

Roast chicken.

Blocked · 20/11/2022 10:02

I really love roast beef, beef dripping roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, roast beef gravy is the best as well. But the kids only like chicken Sad

DemsDaRulz · 20/11/2022 10:03

Lots of restaurants serve supreme chicken @saveforthat I would assume that @BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz prefers theirs sliced

mondaytosunday · 20/11/2022 10:04

Lamb is my all time favourite. But we don't do Sunday roast - husband and parents passed away, son has moved out and my daughter doesn't eat lunch. But if we do have one it would be lamb! Must have red currant jelly and mint sauce.

Shade17 · 20/11/2022 10:05

Beef, but only rib, sirloin or fillet from my preferred butcher.

Pourmeanotherwine · 20/11/2022 10:05

Normally chicken. Fancying roast pork now Ive seen this thread. Not every week as the kids dont eat meat so its just me and DH. Chicken is good as the leftovers are nice in sandwiches, while leftover roast beef can be a bit dry.

Jaffacakeorisitabiscuit · 20/11/2022 10:07

Beef best, then pork, chicken, lamb. We don't have lamb at home because DH doesn't like it (he says it tastes too fatty).

Haven't had beef in ages because of ££££ but once found a huge four rib roasting joint yellow stickered in Tesco reduced from £45 to £4.50. that was a golden day..........

Todaynotalways · 20/11/2022 10:07

Chicken is easiest.

Duck is tastiest, but the meat is more sparse.

Beef is great, but I cook it rarely so am afraid of effing it up.

I don't love pork, but I like Porchetta with plenty of fennel and garlic.

I don't love lamb, but I mask the taste with acidic sauces.

Turkey is grim. The worst.
