If you are single, do you sleep on one side of the bed?

This is really silly, but currently it's a thing.

I've been single about 8 years and since then have always just slept on 'my' side of the bed, the right side. It's a king size bed. It just doesn't feel right if I don't. All my things are on my side bedside table, charger, lamp, radio etc.

My bed is a pillow top type and every now and then I need to rotate it, as a dip starts to form where I lay.

I felt the dip again last week so rotated again, but the swapped rotated side is still dipped from the last rotatation. (I thought the pillow top would puff up if not used, but it seems it no longer is).

I woke up a few mornings with backache and got the dreaded realization that I probably need a new mattress. The thing is though, is that the middle part of the bed is perfectly fine and practically unslept on.

So this week I have moved... To the middle of the bed. But I am not sleeping well and it just feels all wrong. This morning I woke up in my usual spot in the dip on the right, I'd even moved my pillow over with me in the night.

I'm tired. I haven't slept well. But I absolutely cannot afford a new mattress now. But the middle of the bed is perfectly fine but it's giving me anxiety when I get into bed, as it's just not right.

I know this sounds quite ridiculous, my bedroom is my solace, my me space, and how silly is it that I'm getting anxious at night as I have to move over a less than a meter to try to sleep better.

Am I alone here?

My Chihuahua lately chooses dead center so I sleep diagonally to fit around him.Smile

Supposedly you can restore a pillow top using the suction of the vacuum cleaner. Haven't tried yet but am meaning to.

Hoovering you say.... 👀

Does this mean I've been through this trauma for the past week and all I needed to do was hoover the blasted thing!

I have a crap hoover though. But this will be on my to do list for tomorrow.

I can't do it today as it took me forever to lovingly remake the entire bed, put back all the pillows that never usually get moved, as they had to relocate too.

I slept on ‘my’ side for two years after my husband died as well, and did so for two years. But when I moved house I switched…it wasn’t a conscious decision exactly, but the layout of the room and the position of the bed meant it just seemed more logical to sleep on what was his side. I do still think about it at times though

LOL, that's what I've read. Using the suction to fluff up and redistribute the stuffing can somewhat ameliorate the dents. One guide said to "massage" the pillow top back into shape, too, in additon to the use of the hoover. It might be worth a try in lieu of buying a new one.

I didn't want a pillow top because they can't be flipped, but got mine about eight years ago because it was the right price and firmness and I was somewhat rushed. I also purchased a couple of years ago an inexpensive mattress topper sort of a faux feather bed with elastics to hold it in place that also somewhat fills in the dents.
