I’m aged 61 and on holiday abroad. No existing health issues. Two days ago I suddenly experienced the sensation of being on my period. Basically I could feel a flow of liquid coming out of my vagina. This has continued on and off for the last two days. I’m wearing pant liners which I never normally have to do. The liquid is clear, slightly yellow tinged and I’m pretty sure there is no visible blood in it. It is odourless and definitely not urine. It’s watery liquid and I am not sore or in any discomfort.I would guess a couple of teaspoons a few times a day. Last night I was sitting for a couple of hours then got changed for bed, took my knickers off and the liquid ran down my legs so not just a bit of dampness (sorry for being so graphic). I will go to the GP when I get home but that’s not for another 4 weeks and as it’s not an accident or emergency in my view I’m not keen to go to A&E here. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this and if so what was it?
Thanks.

Are you sure it's not urine ? Different circumstances but in my last pregnancy I was leaking wee. I was so certain it was my waters as it had no smell. But nope, wee.

BobbyBobbyBobby · 16/11/2022 00:45

Bath water?

BananaCocktails · 16/11/2022 00:52

have you had unprotected sex recently or met a new partner ?
chlamydia presents itself like that
or could be an infection in the womb vagina or cervix , thrush
or hormonal changes
speak to a GP

Doctor. There are far too many things that this could possibly be. Most are not medically serious, but some could be. Asking on a forum like this could make you think you have anything from uterine or bladder cancer to a yeast infection. Don’t hesitate and don’t wait. This is one for the doctor.

Offleyhoo · 16/11/2022 01:19

I think doctor visit too mainly because if it's an infection you'll need antibiotics sooner than 4 weeks.

WhoInvitedHer · 16/11/2022 01:36

Not bath water as I only shower. No new partner. If it was an infection would I expect to be sore, uncomfortable, different sort of discharge? Am I reasonable to wait a few days before trying to get a GP appointment. Not even sure how to do that here

Just had a thought. Might try calling my GP surgery at 08:00 UK time to see if I can have a telephone consultation and take it from there to decide if I need to see a GP here. Anyone ever done that?

Have never done it but I do think it's a good idea. You can explain that you're away and perhaps arrange then and there for an appointment to see someone as soon as you get back if they deem it necessary (I'd be surprised if they didn't)

Mindthegap725 · 16/11/2022 02:30

Go to the doctor op! Do you have health insurance cover for where you are? Four weeks is too long to wait. Better safe than sorry. If you have some sort of infection you really don't want it getting worse.

CaroleFuckingBaskin · 16/11/2022 05:09

I had this. It was a uterine polyp! All sorted with day surgery. Good luck

My GP surgery do online consultations, you go through a series of standard questions and select the answers then get to a bitbwhere you can type your query, list symptoms etc. They respond by email within 48 hours - does yours offer anything like this?

Toddlerteaplease · 16/11/2022 06:17

I get this quite often. Think my
Period has started and it hasn't. Thought it was normal!

AnyFucker · 16/11/2022 06:20

I second uterine/cervical polyp

I had this symptom and it completely disappeared when I had the polyps removed. You need to see a doctor.

DuchessSilver · 16/11/2022 06:23

Are you swimming on your holiday? Could it be pool/sea water?

I'm a GP - we're not insured to consult with anyone who is outside of the UK, plus this is something that would need a F2F so this would be both a waste of your time and of a GP call slot. Please don't.

CourtneeLuv · 16/11/2022 06:32

What country are you in, someone might know how to see a doctor, and do you have an ehic or whatever the equivalent is? Or insurance?

catmum88 · 16/11/2022 06:47

Please speak to a doctor as soon as possible.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 16/11/2022 06:56

Have you been swimming?

SierraSapphire · 16/11/2022 07:04

I had this and I did have polyps, but I also had endometrial cancer. Yours might not be that, I hate mentioning it and scaring people but I also want people to be seen asap. Even if it is, most endometrial cancer is found at an early stage and is curable with surgery. It's often very slow growing too. Hope it's nothing serious, and sorry that it's such crap timing with you being away Flowers

PurpleFlower1983 · 16/11/2022 07:05

I would see a doctor as soon as you can.

You should see your GP too.

Any advice on what OP should do?

MrsMigginsCat · 16/11/2022 07:13

This could be endometrial polyps. A watery discharge can also be a symptom of endometrial cancer. Get checked out OP. The latter is very treatable if caught early. I had it 3 years ago and am fine now.

Herejustforthisone · 16/11/2022 07:43

Watery discharge is a symptom of a couple of uterine cancers, like cervical and endometrial cancer, but it is not necessarily that. Do you have any other symptoms?

When do you travel home? I would possibly rethink plans and get home, and if not, I’d be seeing medical attention where ever you are.

If she feels it's urgent she should see a doctor where she is and if not then seek medical help when home.
