I’m aged 61 and on holiday abroad. No existing health issues. Two days ago I suddenly experienced the sensation of being on my period. Basically I could feel a flow of liquid coming out of my vagina. This has continued on and off for the last two days. I’m wearing pant liners which I never normally have to do. The liquid is clear, slightly yellow tinged and I’m pretty sure there is no visible blood in it. It is odourless and definitely not urine. It’s watery liquid and I am not sore or in any discomfort.I would guess a couple of teaspoons a few times a day. Last night I was sitting for a couple of hours then got changed for bed, took my knickers off and the liquid ran down my legs so not just a bit of dampness (sorry for being so graphic). I will go to the GP when I get home but that’s not for another 4 weeks and as it’s not an accident or emergency in my view I’m not keen to go to A&E here. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this and if so what was it?
Thanks.

OP you could always do the 111 online symptom checker. That'll at least give you an idea of appropriate next steps.

I'm a GP - we're not insured to consult with anyone who is outside of the UK, plus this is something that would need a F2F so this would be both a waste of your time and of a GP call slot. Please don't.

As a doctor any advice on what she should do, rather than just what she shouldn't?!

As above.
In general if you're acutely ill abroad it's common sense that you need to see a doctor where you are.
If it's not urgent you see your GP when you get home.

Hi yes I've had this.

Do you have a sore throat as well?

First time I had this I had a mildly sore throat as well and it was diagnosed as a bacterial infection that affects both ends. Antibiotics cleared it up.

I got it again a few months later but without the throat and I just let it run it's course. It went after a few days.

It was very very watery, just like peeing yourself. And mine didn't have a strong smell either.

Hope you have a nice holiday.

Any advice on what OP should do?

I would assume seek medical advice in the country she is in.

I have spoken to my GP surgery in the UK and they have suggested an online consultation which they do via me emailing the GP my symptoms so I am going to do that and see what my GP advises. I am in Australia so can’t just easily pop home unfortunately

Pretty sure Medicare still do a reciprocal arrangement - this is from the Uk govt site. Look up reciprocal arrangements Australia.
Under the reciprocal healthcare arrangements, UK residents are entitled to limited subsidised health services from Medicare for medically necessary treatment while visiting Australia. These provisions do not apply to non-visitors, for example those who are studying in Australia.

Quick update as I have been enjoying my holiday recently. I emailed my GP in the UK who emailed back to advise me to see medical attention in Australia and not wait til I got home. This took the dilemma away as I wasn’t feeling ill and really wanted to know if I should wait or not. I attended the local Womens Hospital and was given an internal exam, swabs taken and a smear. Doctor said most likely an infection as the symptoms came on so suddenly. The doctor rang me the next day with the results and prescribed appropriate antibiotics. The symptoms quickly disappeared once I started the medication. I was given a form to give to my GP on return home so they can email for full details and smear results. Brilliant service and so easy. They simply took a photocopy of my passport and I had to pay 20 dollars for the prescription. Thanks for all the advise mumsnetters, much appreciated.
