A mumsnetter???? Why??? It happens to at least 20% of the people who go to Aldi!

one day I was taking it easy to avoid the issue and the cashier got so fed up she went around the counter and started getting my things out of the trolley. 🤣

There was no queue behind me

A checkout lady in our local supermarket said that they are timed by the till on how long it takes them to scan through all the items and if it takes too long they get told off. She said “take as long as you need before I start scanning and after I finish but in between I have to go very fast or I’ll get in trouble.”

Bloody hate the changes supermarkets are making in name of efficiency. They’re turning community hubs into an ordeal.

GnomeDePlume · 12/11/2022 22:22

The annoying thing at a checkout is when your carefully curated conveyor belt of shopping is disrupted by a cashier who insists on reaching over the bottles to get the bag of crisps.

Parrotpretty · 12/11/2022 22:26

She must have been "terrified"

Oneofthosewsillydays · 12/11/2022 22:31

I bet she was straight on her computer emailing head office after the crying and shaking stopped. Such an injustice that her bakery fresh loaf is now squished under the satsumas, a pound of potatoes and some tinned salmon.

BruceWaynettaSlob · 12/11/2022 22:36

The cashier was obviously a narc.

Chloefairydust · 12/11/2022 22:40

To be fair I find Aldi and Lidl really stressful for this reason and avoid them like the plague 😂

… I don’t understand why they rush so much, nobody can bag their items that quickly

ohyouknowwhatshername · 12/11/2022 22:42

Serves her right for not going to Waitrose.

GnomeDePlume · 12/11/2022 22:44

She was probably too shocked to say anything and found the whole experience triggering.

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/11/2022 22:45

Livid reading this

Summerholidays2022 · 12/11/2022 22:47

And they only had fake Pom bears

WelshNerd · 12/11/2022 22:49

What a vile thread Hmm

NCFT0922 · 12/11/2022 22:53

@WelshNerd it was you, wasn’t it 😂

Shopping at Waitrose using Scan as You Shop is the way to go. No conveyor shenanigans and a free coffee at the end. 👍

The new coffee is vile though unfortunately.

This story is about 12-18 months old. Are you the poster resurrecting old threads in disguise

OwlDoll · 12/11/2022 23:25

A cashier in Lidl once told me that I was the fastest packer she had ever met. How sad am I that this actually made me feel quite proud😊

SorenLorensonsInvisibleFriend · 12/11/2022 23:34

Crying and shaking but no snapping or farting?

That's some halfhearted Mumsnetting there.

Yes! My dad watched me line up my shopping and was ConfusedConfusedConfused
Me - heavy fridge and freezer stuff to light fridge and freezer stuff, then heavy shelf stable to light shelf stable, don't interfere, it's one bag for fridge and freezer and one for shelf stable with an extra bag in case of overflow shopping
Dad "I'm touching nothing" Grin

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 12/11/2022 23:36

My local Aldi is quite civilised and they let you pack into bags properly. The one a bit further away is not and I avoid it. I have been known to get flustered and blush furiously but never got as far as actual crying.

ThanksAntsThants · 12/11/2022 23:40

How mortifying.

ThanksAntsThants · 12/11/2022 23:44

In Aldi or Lidl you just chuck the shopping back in the trolley, then take your time and pack it at the bench or the car. I much prefer it, I find packing at the checkout incredibly stressful.

Cuppasoupmonster · 12/11/2022 23:45

Bet the trolley was full of Zoflora and Pom bears

oakleaffy · 13/11/2022 00:13

GetThatHelmetOn · 12/11/2022 21:34

They just overcharge you for their time 🤣

And have better , softer, lighting.
And soon...free coffee again, I think??
Waitrose basics are ok.

Aldi pet ''donut'' bed was the best Aldi purchase ever.
Dogs who like to snuggle love them.
Staff have always been polite to me there.

rumbypumby · 13/11/2022 00:19

I actually remember this thread 😂

APJ1 · 13/11/2022 01:48

She must have been "terrified"

She must have found the cashier's behaviour 'chilling', unless she's considered that they were on the spectrum/had only onset dementia.
