Do some people pass out more easily then others

Or is the human body just set up to
pass out at certain conditions

OP posts:
Bemyclementine · 12/11/2022 20:02

Yes, I have a tendency to pass out. I do have some condition. If I'm ill, particularly with a stomach bug, I will pass out. I can no longer go on spinny fairground rides (Waltzers, swinging chairs etc).

Wasn't diagnosed til I was 30 but have always had a tendency to pass out. Never through blood or gore though. But often through getting up too quickly, too hot bath etc.

caroleanboneparte · 12/11/2022 20:04

Of course. All our biologies are variable for things like this. It's just like the variations in eating/ sleeping/ dried tolerance, breath holding etc.

AliceMcK · 12/11/2022 20:24

I use to when I was younger, worse when I was due on my periods. I remember once fainting in kwiksave, I’d had a bad bout of the flu and gone shopping for the first time and just dropped in the checkout queue.

My DD dose too, we’ve been told she’s got Vasovagal syncope, if she sits or stands still too long just can just drop. Same if she gets too hot and running around.

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 12/11/2022 20:33

I have never fainted, even though many people in the same circumstances as I've had, would. My friend passes out at the most minor (to me) circumstances. It definitely varies by person.

I'd actually love to know what fainting feels like. Weirdly.

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 12/11/2022 20:35

...also DH is a fainter and I have trouble empathising with it as it's such an alien thing for me.

XenoBitch · 12/11/2022 20:36

I have never fainted, but come real close a few times. One was when I caught my thumb in a car door. I nearly passed out from the pain. Another was during a group interview for uni. I felt like I was struggling to stay conscious. It was a horrible feeling.
Last was recently after a panic attack that just kept going on.

TheSausageKingofChicago · 12/11/2022 20:37

I faint if I really hurt myself or if I’m very ill. That’s how I knew I had flu rather than a bad lurgy. Fainting in the shower was a low point.

MyLovelyPen · 12/11/2022 20:39

I’m a fainter. Dh has never fainted. I’ve fainted about 4 times in my life - mainly when in excessive pain. I have a low pain threshold 😄

WhyOY · 12/11/2022 20:41

Yes

ByeByeMr · 12/11/2022 20:42

I've felt faint and close to passing out and it's not a nice feeling. It usually starts with just not feeling right, nausea, hot and clammy and a wave of panic.

User2145738790 · 12/11/2022 20:45

Obviously.

CantFindTheBeat · 12/11/2022 20:48

Absolutely.

Why are you asking, OP? What would you like to learn?

PrunellaMcTat · 12/11/2022 20:51

Yes of course. I assume it's genetic. My mother, myself and my eldest daughter are all fainters. I faint if I'm unwell and it's one of my gluten reactions. I also faint quite easily if I see gore which really irritates me because I'm not a petticoat clutching damsel. It doesn't suit my character at all, but I have no control over it.

Augend23 · 12/11/2022 20:56

I'm not a terrible fainter but I have fainted or almost fainted a few times.

Most effective way ever to get a seat on a packed commuter train. Grin I just got hotter and hotter and dizzier and dizzier and then it all went black. Had similar happen at home when getting up but that's much better now my blood pressure is higher - I used to get very dizzy whenever I stood up at one point.

purpleme12 · 12/11/2022 20:56

Well yes of course I've never fainted and I'm sure there must be lots of others who haven't either

FindingMeno · 12/11/2022 21:01

I seem to faint relatively easily.
It's happened enough now to recognise the warning signs.
I guess we're all different.

Lonecatwithkitten · 12/11/2022 21:02

Low heart rate and low blood pressure makes fainting an everyday hazard. Mostly I manage, but every so often I don't.
I also never grew out of breath holding so I faint with severe pain.

BeyondMyWits · 12/11/2022 21:04

Yes...

I have fainted once in my life... lack of fluid intake on a very hot day and I passed out.

DH passes out when he has vaccinations or gets blood drawn. Not immediately, not needle based, but after, when he sits waiting to leave and thinks about it.

BettyOBarley · 12/11/2022 21:04

My 5yr old DD has a sensitive vasovagal reflex (or called something like that!) so she briefly faints when shocked / hot / stood too long etc.

Wombat27A · 12/11/2022 21:04

My DH is a fainter, low bp and low hr...currently undergoing tests.

Littlefish · 12/11/2022 21:05

@Lonecatwithkitten - I have low proof pressure

Littlefish · 12/11/2022 21:07

@Lonecatwithkitten oops, posted too early. I have low blood pressure and a low resting pulse. I go dizzy almost every time I stand up.

Chasingsquirrels · 12/11/2022 21:07

I faint when I have injections, unless I'm lying down (had my recent covid booster lying on the floor as the pharmacy didn't have a bed).

I also faint when I have my ears examined (was prone to infections), again unless I'm lying down.

I've fainted a few other times,
At 12yo after a rocky plane landing, while waiting in the immigration queue.
A few years ago after DHs endoscopy when the doctor told us it was almost certainly cancer.

I also feel like I'm going to faint when having sore parts of me manipulated (physio investigations), but stop them so that I don't actually faint.

Littlepies · 12/11/2022 21:08

Yes a fainter here, i mostly avoid it happening and recognise the signs but it does happen a couple of times a year, I don’t go dizzy though, everything goes in slow motion and I start to panic and then faint. Mum and Gran the same.

LubaLuca · 12/11/2022 21:09

I'm a fainter. Low BP, faulty heart. I've never fainted with shock though (luckily I'm not easily shocked).
