Where could I park to get the tube into central London?

I was wondering if someone could help please.

We are due to go to London for a show on 26th November, which has been announced as the next train strike. We are travelling from the north and wondered if anyone might know if somewhere we can park and then get the train in? The show is in central London and I don’t know London very well at all.

Thank you!

Where are you coming from and where is the show?

QuitMoaning · 11/11/2022 17:07

I always used Cockfosters. It is a long ride on Piccadilly line but there used to be a huge car park next to it. I assume it is still there.

piratehugs · 11/11/2022 17:08

Many years ago, Cockfosters was our car park of choice too.

We recently used "YourParkingSpace" to book a very reasonably priced parking space, just outside the congestion zone at Hyde park. It was £10 for 9am- 4pm. Used the tube at Queensway to get around, it was ideal! May be worth looking into something similar?

Thedogscollar · 11/11/2022 17:10

Newbury Park then the central line into London.

DrMarciaFieldstone · 11/11/2022 17:11

Canary Wharf is not cheap but very accessible, close to London and will always have spaces. There’s three underground car parks to choose from.

Connected to jubilee and DLR to get you into London in ten mins or less.

You need to say which direction you are coming from Op. Eg no point in recommending somewhere north of London if you are travelling from the South!

MaggieMagpie357 · 11/11/2022 17:11

Try JustPark - we went to Wembley Stadium for a gig in the summer and parked in Asda nearby for £10!

OP has said coming from the North

BlackberrySky · 11/11/2022 17:16

You could park in one of the tube stations at the end of the Northern line eg Edgware Road (not sure which have car parks but you can check on the tfl website). Take the Northern line to Leicester Square (assuming you're going to the west end for your show).

A little re-read of the OP might be in order 😂

BlueBlueCowWondering · 11/11/2022 17:18

we did Brent Cross at the end if the M1 last week for tube direct to Leicester Square on the Northern line. Loads of free parking.

It's about 12 mins walk but using Apple maps because it's not straightforward (under and over busy roads). But the free parking and zone 3 made it v worth the walk

Trainhel · 11/11/2022 17:18

Thank you so much everyone, I really appreciate your help and will look at the suggestions, I didn’t know where to start! I’m coming from the north (Cheshire) and the show is the West End.

Also the OP should have said get the tube in, not train! Thanks again.

I’ve used the Sainsbury’s shopping centre car park on Finchley Road before now.

steelseries · 11/11/2022 17:19

@Trainhel I'm doing the exact same thing. I planned to drive to Luton Airport Parkway and get the Thameslink to St Pancras (as that's where we are staying). I think I'm right in thinking that line is unaffected...

jackstini · 11/11/2022 17:19

Edgeware or Stamford could work for you

I wonder what you think you mean?

Edgware or Stanmore perhaps?

Check engineering works - there's a lot of weekend works coming up on Thameslink

LynneBenfield · 11/11/2022 17:29

We come in on the A40/West way. You could park at the big Westfield in Shepherd’s Bush and get the tube in. You are congestion zone exempt there but I’m pretty sure you’re in ULEZ, so you need to check if your car is eligible.

jackstini · 11/11/2022 17:30

Yes @BloodAndFire
Chuffing autocorrect!

OP - Stanmore is just off J5 of M1

gogohmm · 11/11/2022 17:35

Check to see if the underground is affected, if not from the north look around at Johns wood, it's an easy drive from the m1. I've parked right by lords for free after 6pm (I paid for 2 hours parking from 4-6 in the past too, then it's free, do check as times may have changed!) look on the ncp website too, I've park led by Marble Arch in the past outside of congestion charge

KimWexlersPonyTail · 11/11/2022 17:43

If coming down on M1 maybe Stanmore or Harrow. If Stanmore get the Jubilee line or from Harrow you can get tube or train.

Wetellyourstory · 11/11/2022 17:43

We come from the same direction and use Stanmore. It does have a car park but there are lots of options on JustPark to be assured of your parking space. Jubilee line is a night tube if you are watching an evening show.
