Just wondering if any pensioners have seen this payment yet?

We got ours last year on the 8th November so wondered if anyone has had similar this year.

Despite being in receipt of a state pension I'm not eligible as I was born 12 days too late to qualify. The date for qualifying is totally arbitrary and anyone born after that date gets nothing rather than a pro rata amount. Not a happy bunny.

Snap! I was only six days away from being eligible!

MrsClatterbuck · 30/11/2022 04:30

Oh got his yesterday. Letter W

Tinababy · 30/11/2022 05:44

Money still not in our account. Our surname is at beginning of alphabet so that doesn’t seem to be the criteria of order of payment.

grannycake · 30/11/2022 05:46

Mine was paid in this morning

PleaseBeHonest · 30/11/2022 06:03

My DM missed out because she didn’t get the form back in time.

twotiredwithtwo · 30/11/2022 06:05

Hi, I used to work for the pension service so thought I'd hop on to let you know that it's not paid alphabetically by surname but rather by your national insurance number. The payments are made in batches. Rest assured you'll nearly always receive payment in December at the latest. If you haven't received it by the deadline in Jan, phone up as it's usually an issue with the address, a simple formatting error can cause the system to miscalculate payment but getting a top up or making a missed payment is generally really quick (aside from the hold time on the phone!). This at least has been the process in other years so despite no longer working there, I can't imagine it has changed much.

It is automatic, there is no form. You have to be receiving your state pension, ( ie age 66 or older) by a certain date on September - think it was 28th in 2022.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 30/11/2022 14:26

Thank you.

I understand, my mum was the same last year. Her birthday was exactly a week too late. Ridiculous as she was obtaining her pension at the time (or would have been if the dwp weren't so far behind....finally got sorted 4 months after her qualifying birthday despite applying 4 months early as she was asked to...) their dates make no sense imo. If you're eligible for your pension in the winter of that year you should be eligible for it. (I do understand there had to be a cut off somewhere though sadly. That one just seems daft.)

Still nothing as yet for her. She's 4 letters in from the start of the alphabet too.

@fussychica , why do you think that the cut-off date is totally arbitrary?

@HashtagShitShop , if the cut-off date is daft which date do you think should be the cut-off date?

I think the WFP was introduced by Gordon Brown when he was Chancellor, as the Labour party was getting flack at the time, for pensioner poverty. I don't know whether he himself or higher civil servants decided on a September date then. Is it still a September cut-off date?

HashtagShitShop · 30/11/2022 21:54

If you receive state pension during the winter of that year I think you should qualify that year was what I meant.

It is still Sept, yes

Tinababy · 01/12/2022 06:34

Thank you to twotiredwithtwo
that makes sense that it’s by insurance number as ours starts with a Y so I assume we will be well down on the list to get ours paid. Odd as we usually receive it mid November.

Tinababy · 01/12/2022 12:23

Thanks LeandraDear, I don’t know what their payment criteria is then. Glad you got yours and hope we won’t have to wait much longer 😂

StarbucksSmarterSister · 01/12/2022 12:55

Got mine today, as did a friend. My NI number starts with a Y but ends in A so who knows? Maybe they do it by the numbers.

upinaballoon · 01/12/2022 20:46

I've spent mine today on a piece of fried haddock in a chippie up north. It warmed me on the inside.
