Where to buy clothes for slim children?

Any suggestions on where I can buy clothes for my 4yo slim DD that has relatively small waists comparative to other brands and/or adjustable waists? Her 3-4 trousers are all starting to get a bit short now, but the waists still fit her absolutely fine, and the few 4-5 hand-me-down trousers we have hang off her waist.

My DD is similar, very skinny waist, but she isn't tall either. Next leggings aren't too bad I find. She also wears a lot of dresses which circumvents the problem entirely.

Ttbhappy · 10/11/2022 21:41

I have this problem with DS. The only way round it for us is to put an elasticated band into the waist as I find he grows out of trousers only in the length.

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 10/11/2022 21:43

H&M have been the best for us for a slim DS. Most trousers have adjustable waists, which is what makes things possible.

M&S extra long for school uniform, then sized down 2 years.

French brands Vertbaudet and Petit bateau are better. I look out for second hand PB stuff on eBay as it's expensive but Vertbaudet isn't too bad price wise.

Reluctantadult · 10/11/2022 21:45

Honestly I got a few things made. My Dd is 8 now and I still have this problem. She's wearing 9-10 clothes but the width on them is not far off my clothes! I've just had to return most of her birthday clothes.

CatNamedEaster · 10/11/2022 21:48

I've always found H&M and Sainsbury's the best fit for DS who has always been tall and slim. Eg, he would be in age 8-9 when he was 6.5, the clothes would be long enough without hanging off the shoulders or being huge on the waist.

quickbathroombreak · 10/11/2022 21:51

Another vote for H&M. My 5 year old DD has always been skinny and the waists on anything which isn't leggings have always been way too big. She is also tall, wears 7-8 years in most things now, so the adjustable waists really help. Their brushes inside leggings are also so much better for this time of year than normal leggings.

DelilahBucket · 10/11/2022 21:52

H&M are a slimmer fit and also, Next do a slim fit, although not sure what size they start at for that range.

Merrow · 10/11/2022 21:55

H&m here too, albeit for DS

kirkandpetal · 10/11/2022 21:55

Gap are slim fitting too but but of a pain as it's all online so a bit trial and error until you hit on the right size.

My dd2 is skinny but leggy. Trying to find plain black leggings for PE was a right chore.

Decathlon also worth a try for sports stuff.

Madwomanuptheroad29 · 10/11/2022 21:57

H&M can be good, zara usually cuts for slimmer kids and now that DD is 12 and quite tall she can find stuff that actually fits and looks good in Bershka.
Most uk makes cut for chubbier kids.

Elli123 · 10/11/2022 21:57

Zara has been best for my skinny, tiny waist daughter😁

ChineAndWheeseParty · 10/11/2022 21:58

Going with the H&M suggestion. Virtually the only clothes that would fit my beanpole DD when she was younger

TattiePants · 10/11/2022 21:59

Agree with the previous suggestions plus Polarn O Pyret. Avoid John Lewis own brand as always found them quite short but wide fitting.

Neverplayleapfrogwithmrpipes · 10/11/2022 22:00

Polarn o Pyret does adjustable leggings.
I also found that dance leggings are the best fit on my daughter. We buy Bloch ones.

Asda is a no go area as the clothes are far too big

Pyjamagame · 10/11/2022 22:01

Gap good too.

TheMousePipes · 10/11/2022 22:01

We always had this with dd. I found Stella McCartney kids fitted her brilliantly. Before you laugh out loud at me, eBay always had loads and all her clothes were second hand. She looked impeccably turned out most of the time and it cost me peanuts!

NoFitStateMum · 10/11/2022 22:12

H&M
La Redoute
Boots Mini Club

WeightoftheWorld · 10/11/2022 22:13

A lot of these brands mentioned are sadly way over our budget (we tend to buy supermarket clothes) but I can definitely have a look for them on Ebay etc as people have mentioned.

H&M - interesting, I've looked in there with her lots of times and never found the clothes to fit her properly, a lot of the stuff seems to be sized in 2-year increments which never seem to fit her properly? It seems a lot of you with tall, slim children recommend H&M, but my DD is actually quite short, it's just that she's so slim that eventually she does still start to outgrow the lengths of things before she has anywhere near a big enough waist for the next size. This problem seems to be getting worse as she gets older and becomes more and more slim (comparatively to other children).

Asda - it's actually my first point of call for kids' clothing because it's so affordable. I disagree that all the stuff is huge, I actually find it super varied. I can buy two different leggings from the same section, and one will have a smaller waist and one will have a massive one! Very strange.

She does actually have a belt so jeans/trousers with belt loops could be an option too.

We mostly keep dresses for parties and the like, she wears trousers almost every day, mostly leggings.

Boys jeans from M&S can be drawn in tight (if you get the ones with the tightner on the inside). Girls jeans from there tend to be more jeggings so I haven’t noticed those tightening bits

ADialgaAteMyDog · 10/11/2022 22:19

I have always found H&M to have massive waists!
I vote for Next and kids clothes in Lidl, Lilly and Dan maybe? Although you may need to size down they lasted really well and fit on the waist.
I've also found Sainsbury's and tesco to be fine for my skinny Minnie.
Tesco do a jersey type school trouser with an adjustable waist which are th best one we've tried.

Merrow · 10/11/2022 22:20

Ah, yes DS is tall. Maybe try nutmeg? Not had stuff from there in a while but while he had to size up for length the waist was fine.

sarahc336 · 10/11/2022 22:32

Primark kids clothes come up skinny x

MissDollyMix · 10/11/2022 22:33

Primark leggings are the only ones that fit my super slim dd. All the other brands hang off her legs like harem pants!

NewNameNov · 10/11/2022 22:37

H&M and Gap Kids has always been the best for my very slight DD.

Also for uniform the only school skirts that are long enough and don't fall off her waist are M&S slim fit, long length.

But pinafores work ok x

I always find sainsburys, Next and ASDA just ridiculously wide for waistbands and dresses etc. Could get two of her in them.
