Where to buy clothes for slim children?

WeightoftheWorld · 10/11/2022 21:08

Any suggestions on where I can buy clothes for my 4yo slim DD that has relatively small waists comparative to other brands and/or adjustable waists? Her 3-4 trousers are all starting to get a bit short now, but the waists still fit her absolutely fine, and the few 4-5 hand-me-down trousers we have hang off her waist.

Have a look for Maxomorra clothes (lots of online retailers) organic cotton and designed for tall and slim children. Any of the scandi brands are, like villervalla- love their outdoor clothes!

Primark leggings are slim fitting. DD is always 1 or 2 sizes behind her age, Primark is the only place that her actual age fits her.

Zara’s basic leggings are £5, not sure if that fits with budget.

I like Zara for my slim boy

I have a v slim DS and can only put him in trousers with an adjustable waist, specifically elastic in a casing. Polarn O. Pyret is expensive full price but they have good reductions in their sales and people sell bundles on eBay and Facebook. Nutmeg at Morrisons and &Other Stories frequently have adjustable waists.

Ds is 13 now and super skinny. Next and M and S have always been best for us. H and M where always too big on him

Wetcappuccino · 11/11/2022 07:26

H&M and La Redoute. La Redoute are online/ catalogue only and always have sales on.

HBZ287 · 11/11/2022 08:19

Another vote for LaRedoute. Refreshing to buy clothes in the correct age which actually fit in length and width.

CopOut27 · 11/11/2022 08:22

Most shops have adjustable waists on skirts and trousers if you look around. Next, Boden, H&M, M&S - all places we buy with adjustables.

Bramshott · 11/11/2022 08:25

I used to take my DDs leggings in on either side of the waist to make them fit.

AriettyHomily · 11/11/2022 08:39

Zara and h and m were better for Dts, sainsburys and next were always huge even with adjustable waists

Flev · 11/11/2022 09:43

The only solution I've found is the same as @Bramshott - grabbing a needle and cotton and taking in the waist by about an inch on both sides.

Unfortunately DD seems to have most of her height in her top half, so despite being only just 4 she needs size 5-6 tops for length, many of which you could easily get a second child into with her width-wise. As yet my sewing isn't good enough to be able to add darts into her tops but I think I need to learn!

Lindex do adjustable waists too which are good for my small 3 year old. Find some bargains on vinted.

kingvizzytarg · 11/11/2022 11:00

I have a very skinny girl and normal H&M leggings are still too wide for her.

However they have these ones in lots of styles with an adjustable waistband. Good for winter too because they are lined.

Adjustable waist leggings

Have a very skinny DS (also short for his age). Tend to get slim fit joggers in next (tesco and asda way to big), trousers in next, slim fit trousers in m & s and sainsburys (always with adjustable waist). Slim fit polo shirts for school from m & s. Most t shirts are OK, just maybe a year behind his age in sizes. So he is 10 1/2, and in trousers and joggers that are age 9 - due to length.
Not tried too much h & m, but his older, also slim cousin had trousers from there.

I had to do a massive shrinking job for DS for a school trip. I could have worn the (compulsory for travel) teeshirt they sent my 9 year old home with. If you turn a top inside out, and stitch from the hem up to the armpit through both layers if fabric, then down the sleeve you can take quite a lot out. Just make sure to do it evenly between the two sides.

Flev · 11/11/2022 12:04

@ChristmasCakeAndStilton thanks, I'll give that a go with a top she's not too fussed about in case it goes wrong!

shabs05 · 11/11/2022 13:36

I have the same problem with dd but I just take the waist in at most leggings and joggers, I add darts to dresses or take them in at the waist.
I had the same with ds1 who is 19 now and he wears a belt in his 28" waist trousers but still complains that they're too loose

DelurkingAJ · 11/11/2022 13:40

Joggers are a whole world of extra pain too. DS1 (aged 8 waist, age 12 leg length) has M&S ones which stay up (sort of) with only moderate ankle showing. I could have got two of him into the H&M ones. ASDA do long length school trousers with adjustable waist which mean at least his school trousers fit.

Mermaid2023 · 17/11/2023 22:06

I have the same problem with my middle DD. She is 5yrs 9mnths but super slim and would fit size 2-3 round the waist. I have to take the waist in on all of her leggings, trousers and pyjama bottoms. Tights are a lot easier but again the length is fine but the waist is big so they keep falling down, we can't win! 😂

Esgaroth · 17/11/2023 22:13

Lindex - all their trousers now have the adjustable elastic inside the waistband. I tighten them 2 button holes on each side and they're perfect for my string bean boy.

And F&F at Tesco

EmmyLemmyHemmy · 19/11/2023 10:15

Joules leggings are nice and long in the legs.

next jeans have adustable waists.

Ugg boots and startrite ankle boots hide the ankle gap in leggings or trousers that are a bit short but fit on the waist xx

MintJulia · 19/11/2023 10:25

H&M do some skinny fit clothes that are quite good.

But skinny fit for teens is a real issue. I hope a clothing manufacturer is paying attention.

I have a 15yo ds with 24" waist and 34" inside leg. Absolutely nothing fits.
