Is your heating on yet?

In the Midlands and it's thankfully still quite mild, so far I'm fine with a jumper and blanket in the evening. Trying to be mindful of our energy use, like so many people.

If I'm honest i have an extra incentive to avoid the central heating as it tends to flare up my rosacea, but wondering how long others plan to avoid putting the heating on for?

I’ve had it on in one room only to dry laundry, a couple of times recently. Otherwise it’s still 19 degrees in our flat, in London so haven’t felt the need to put all radiators on!

Iwritethissittinginthekitchensink · 09/11/2022 19:59

It’s been so warm lately even I (cold person!) haven’t really needed the heating on except to dry washing lately.

serenaisaknobhead · 09/11/2022 20:00

East Mids. Has been on (and off) since October

Cynderella · 09/11/2022 20:00

Went on Sunday and yesterday to help dry some washing and warm the house up a bit. Today, managing without.

Determined to avoid using too much energy, and made it through October, but it's getting to the point where I will be wanting the heating on in for a couple of hours every day. And probably using the tumble dryer when it rains.

But that'll be better than last year when heating was on all day most days at 18 deg and turned up when we felt like it, and tumble dryer used to dry every load rather than drying over the airer first.

Athenen0ctua · 09/11/2022 20:02

I've been putting it on for an hour after work if it's 15 in the sitting room. Thermostat is only set to 16, but I'm hoping the short burst might help to dry the towels in the bathroom as well.

NewBootsAndRanty · 09/11/2022 20:03

Mine's been on since October.

Fancypotatoes · 09/11/2022 20:05

Up north here, heat was off until Nov hit. Now heat on every morning never above 19 for about an hour then off again. Back on before bed for an hour. Dehumidifier on most time to dry clothes in living room and some heat from that (kids to think about). If I lived alone I would be sitting in my coat with the heat off. Obsessively looking at the smart meter. It's not healthy. We are just trying to not put the heat on. Lucky we have a well insulated house however.

NukaColaQuantum · 09/11/2022 20:05

East Mids. Single glazed listed cottage, so yes, it’s been on, but nowhere near as much as my teens would like.

During the heatwave, it didn’t go above 25 inside the cottage, which was lovely, but in winter, it’s the opposite. Much colder inside here than it is outside.

Athenen0ctua · 09/11/2022 20:06

I'm a bit cold but only wearing a crew neck jumper, jeans and slippers, no blanket (blankets occupied by cats). DS has a oodie, pyjama shorts and socks.

JamMakingWannaBe · 09/11/2022 20:06

Mine is set to come on for 40 minutes in the morning if it's below 17 degrees, and the same for a couple of hours in the evening.

It's come on more often in the morning than it has at night.

A580Hojas · 09/11/2022 20:07

We've had ours on for a few hours here and there. No longer than 3 hours at a time though (and that was on colder evenings). I guess we've been lucky so far in that it has been a mild Autumn in most places.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 09/11/2022 20:07

Thermostat set at 20

PuttingDownRoots · 09/11/2022 20:08

We had it on at the weekend to check all the radiators etc.

Not felt the need for the timer yet.

I think its quite a warm house naturally though, its around 18C.

devildeepbluesea · 09/11/2022 20:08

Not especially cold in S Wales but really wet so I’ve been putting it on for an hour to dry off the worst of the damp. I’m managing fine with layers and hot water bottles all other times.

SophieJo · 09/11/2022 20:09

It’s set now at 16 instead of 22! Thankfully the weather has been quite mild here in the NW so only have it on for short bursts morning and night. Electric blanket has been a godsend!

Answerthedoor · 09/11/2022 20:14

Nope. Got the Kidd.ly out but it's too warm for that. Still havent got the duvet on yet.

BobbyBobbyBobby · 09/11/2022 20:17

No. Very mild here and our house is modern so is very efficient at keeping cold out.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 09/11/2022 20:19

No heating on but have been using the open fire in the evenings if its chilly. Its mostly around 18 which feels fine with a Jumper on but i find it cold if it drops to 17

RedToothBrush · 09/11/2022 20:19

Temperature hasn't triggered the thermastat yet though, so it will stay off til then. Thermastat set for 17C.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 09/11/2022 20:24

South east here. Not fallen below 18 in the house. So not yet. Been sitting under my heated blanket in the evening. Saving my money for when it is freezing

Electric is triple the cost of gas so I don't know if only heating one room would make up for that. We have radiators on high in the sitting room, medium in the kitchen, low upstairs.

Ilikewinter · 09/11/2022 20:26

Thermostat set at 18 but it is off between 8pm and 5.30am. Other than that it kicks in when needed.

mondaytosunday · 09/11/2022 20:35

Still pretty mild so no, but I do have my gas fire on in the livingroom.
