Just curious! Not the best picture.

Chocolate and vanilla, with vanilla frosting. Serves about 30 - 40.

How much would you pay for this cake?

I'd expect at least £60

Beees · 08/11/2022 08:48

£60-£70 at least given how many it's feeding.

BeagIes · 08/11/2022 08:52

Thanks both! Very helpful.

I’m just charging for the cost of ingredients for a friend/colleague but considering taking commissions.

It’s pretty basic, about £40-50.

ChristmasJumpers · 08/11/2022 08:54

Look at cost of ingredients and gas, electric water used while baking and cleaning up, how much you'd like to pay yourself per hour and how long you spend actively baking/discussing cake details/shopping for ingredients. Also important to look at local cake prices and know your target. Certain areas you can charge more than others

cushioncovers · 08/11/2022 08:57

£30-£35

JustWork · 08/11/2022 09:05

It's stunning!! My DD would love that so much. It must be quite large as well so I'd say about £60 or 70.

catlady1234 · 08/11/2022 09:07

Cakes cost a fortune. Even a plain cake serving that many from a supermarket would cost £50!

Depending where you are based, I'd say about £80

Looks great btw :-)

StrangerOnline · 08/11/2022 09:07

Serves 30-40? Really? How big is it?

GoodnightGentleBoris · 08/11/2022 09:07

£60 or so around here for a cake that feeds that many

it doesn’t look very professional though, did you pay a lot for it and feel ripped off when you received it?

anotherscroller · 08/11/2022 09:08

I was going to say 40 but would stretch to 60.
It’s lovely! Even though I can’t bear peppa pig.

GoodnightGentleBoris · 08/11/2022 09:09

Also I’d be pretty unhappy to get a cake with frosting on it that’s got cling film over the top, that will stick and ruin the icing as soon as you take it off

A cake serving 30-40 is either huge or people are getting very small portions. Grin

catlady1234 · 08/11/2022 09:09

@GoodnightGentleBoris

She made the cake. Read the posts....

OverTheHillAndDownTotherSide · 08/11/2022 09:10

You’ll need to register and have your kitchen certified by the council, get food hygiene certs and insurance to charge anyone/take commissions.

serenghetti2011 · 08/11/2022 09:11

I’d have got a box to put it in rather than cling film, as you’re not a pro cake maker I’d pay £50 max, it’s cute and sure it tastes lovely 🥰

NormaLouiseBates · 08/11/2022 09:12

It's very well done, the finish is really clean.

I'm a baker and my advice would be to work out your coatings accurately. All the ingredients then the cost of gas/electric and any other expenses (board, box etc). Then work out how long it takes and how much you want to pay yourself per hour.

The poster who said £30-£40 is unfortunately the type of customer who has no idea what goes into making a handmade cake. That would probably cover my ingredients and sundry items... am I expected to give my time for free then? 🙄

pumpkinelvis · 08/11/2022 09:12

I'd say about £50 if it really does feed 30-40. Perhaps the size in the photo is misleading

till the cling film comes off

This. But don’t forget profit too!

Well yeah, the cling film isn't a great idea I agree.

Btw, didn’t mean to be rude (just curious) - assuming it’s at least 30cm/12” - then I’d expect to pay approx £40
But I’m aware that I’m tight, and normally make my own family birthday cakes.

Also - it’s great!

LulooLemon · 08/11/2022 09:15

What a great cake. £70 - Hope the cling film isn't squashing it! Next time use a cake box so nothing touches the icing.

LaurieFairyCake · 08/11/2022 09:17

£70-£80

It's very well done
