How to deal with this mould :(

MoldyHome · 06/11/2022 20:58

The flooring under the fridge was starting to get lifted. After months of ignoring it (2 small DCs) I thought I best investigate and this is what I found. I don't even know where to start with this and want to cry, please help!

I'm useless at house stuff. How do I deal with the mould, clean it? How, with what? And how do I fix my kitchen floor, and replace the mouldy bit of the kitchen unit?

The kitchen needs a full refurb but this is too much for me to take on at the moment, so what do I do in the interim?

It's such a pain when we don't have time but can see a problem unfolding. Is the fridge leaking? Ordinary cleaning products will clean the mess, but the problem may continue, do you know what's causing it?

Geneticsbunny · 06/11/2022 21:06

Yep. Looks like something is leaking. To clean it, I would give it a good scrub with some washing up liquid, but don't submerge it and then you could wipe the bits where the mould is with a water and bleach solution. Don't put the kickboard back until you have sorted the leak out though or it will just come back.

Clean it with that mould and mildew remover from the pound shop/b&m etc then check if it needs wiping down regularly and air the room more.

Stop the cause of the water ingress. Once laminate is water damaged & swollen you may find it won't go back down & it will need replacing.

Thank you, I think the fridge is leaking, or at least I hope so as that's easily fixed. It is old and I regularly need to take big chunks of ice out of the freezer when that's not supposed to happen. So.ething else I was burying my head in the sand about.

Lockdowns, maternity leave and work from home have really increased wear and tear on the house. The dishwasher and washing machine are also packing in and there is occasionnally a random puddle in the bathroom so I think there is a leak there too.

I've already had to fork out for a new boiler, it's a nightmare.

@Ladyparker00 I feared as much.... I just can't imagine changing all the flooring at the moment so that bit may just have to stay bare for the time being

Hi op please research moving mould before you do it.
You don't want to realise the spores into the air!!

Wear a mask , gloves, ventilated and look up how to move it properly
