Laser hair removal ~ is it worth it £££

Hi mumsnetters, there is fabulous offer in my local area for laser hair removal, I’m so tempted but need some real reviews from those who have had it ! I don’t seem to know anyone who has. Is it worth the money ? Has it been permanent for you ? How many sessions did you have ? Is it painful ? Help !

I haven’t had it but I know others who have and for some it’s worked faster than other but it has worked.

LentilDiet · 06/11/2022 14:22

It worked for me, underarms and bikini line. I think tgere was a groupon offer of 6 sessions, but my bikini line needed a few more (so i just waited till another groupon offer came round again).

It depends on your hair colour and skin tone too. Im a brunette with fair skin, so perfect candidate.

megletthesecond · 06/11/2022 14:23

Slightly difference laser here as i used a philips lumea at home.
Unlike the 3-6 months it should have taken it took 18 months to get my hairs zapped. I'd waxed for 30 years which maybe made the hair extra strong.

It does work. Some areas quicker than others. But do check the reviews of this particular place

VladmirsPoutine · 06/11/2022 14:27

Yes it's worth it. I have dark hair and dark skin and it worked well for me. I'd wait for an offer - they're usually pretty regular so you can book 6 or 8 sessions for an offer.

Simonjt · 06/11/2022 14:27

What sort is it?

I’ve had laser, I used to have certain bits waxed every 4-6 weeks, I am dark skinned so this means my course took a bit longer than usual. But within 6 months the areas I wanted treating were hairless, I don’t have any regrowth so far. It wasn’t painful, but it did at times feel a bit like an elastic band being pinged on my skin, especially where the hair was thicker.

tenbob · 06/11/2022 14:29

Proper laser is definitely worth it

IPL at a beauty salon, which is sometimes called laser, total waste of money

Shortandsweetgemini · 06/11/2022 14:36

Thankyou. So i’m quite hairy ! Thick, dark hair ! I shave then the next day I’m stubbly again. Waxing lasts a couple weeks but it would be a dream to never have to do either again 😍 The offer is for 8 sessions. If it is completely permanent it is totally worth the money in my eyes !

It just says laser hair removal, doesn’t say IPL whatever that is.

I would just hate to spend hundreds on it & then still have to shave 🙃

If you have pale skin and dark hair I would really recommend a Phillips Lumea. It has reduced around 95% of my hair and the 5% that pops up is so fine you barely notice it.

It's one item that if I lost it I would replace without hesitation, although now I only use it once in blue moon as a top up treatment.

Perfectlystill · 06/11/2022 14:52

Yes it's worth it as soon as you can afford it. Big outlay but worth every penny

honeylulu · 06/11/2022 15:08

Yes I've had it done (legs, armpits, bikini and perianal region). 6 treatments over 6 months. A few straggly hairs appear but they are easy to manage.

I got an IPL machine, not Philips Lumea bit a cheaper brand, in order to zap the odd straggler and also to remove more of the bikini area. (I had chosen originally to leave a small triangle but later wished I'd opted to get rid of all if it or just leave a small Brazilian strip.) Worked perfectly on the stragglers but after over a year of regular use its not reduced the denser bikini hair that much. I'm inclined to book another laser course.

As pps have said groupon and wowcher are really good for these.

I did not find it painful except on the labia and only the odd twang not every zap. But this was one of the reasons i decided to leave more hair than I originally planned. But I've decided it would be worth it as the results have been permanent for me (now 6 years later).

I'm dark haired with light skin which is the ideal combo.

Mary46 · 06/11/2022 16:10

Yes op found it very good. I paid for ten. Bikini. Dont feel I need topups. By the time I paid out for waxing.. she thought 6 too little so I did ten. Hard when hair dark

feelingprettylight · 06/11/2022 16:12

Yes worth it. Dark and very hairy over here.

It has to be a Soprano Ice machine so worth ringing the salon. I had 10 sessions on bikini and under arms and 98% gone. A few stragglers left that are so fine they can't even be seen.

feelingprettylight · 06/11/2022 16:14

But groupon is a great one for this, So do hunt around for deals then check the salon has the right machine I just mentioned.

Okbye · 06/11/2022 16:31

Another vote for Philips Lumea! I'm light skinned with thick dark hair and it worked a treat on me. I looked into laser removal at a salon but figured if I bought a Lumea I could do multiple areas in the comfort of my own home. I only have to zap very occasionally now as a 'top up' to get rid of any stragglers or fine hair that's grown back (and it does grow back MUCH finer!

If you're commited (legs take a while to zap) and use it regularly, you'll have great results. I've done my upper lip, armpits, belly, Brazilian (including underneath and behind) and my legs with it and I'd 100% would recommend - if mine broke tomorrow I'd buy a new one immediately!
As a side note, if you are looking to get one make sure you look out for a Black Friday deal as they usually get a decent chunk reduced.

One of my friends spent a small fortune on IPL hair removal in a salon. Didn’t remove any hair at all and she just wasted her money… She has pale skin and dark hair so by all tights should be the perfect candidate for laser hair removal…🤷🏼‍♀️

Can you use the Philips lumea on your butt crack hair? 😳

sleepwouldbenice · 06/11/2022 16:49

What's IPL please...

Yes. The angles are somewhat awkward though, you may need a volunteer to assist.

eyebright22 · 06/11/2022 17:55

Yes proper laser is worth it. I had my thick, dark leg hair removed in 6 sessions 5 years ago and I just now need to shave a bit of fluff off now and again.

Lol yeah, I can get it lying on my side in front of a mirror 😃 not the prettiest sight but it definitely works!

BCBird · 06/11/2022 17:59

My friend and I went to a well Skn clinics. It works. If u are pale skinned and have dark hair it seems to work at its optimum. It is expensive but there are often substantial regular discounts. It not a quick fix, but in my experience it does work.

BCBird · 06/11/2022 18:01

Forgot to say, if is painful but I got a notoriously low pain threshold due to health conditions, but it only for a bit of time. Worth it.
