How often do you clean your bathroom?

I know The Organised Mum Method says everyday and I just want to know if that’s genuinely the norm. I manage more like twice a week…

Why bleach the toilets though? Genuine question and I’m not being snarky. It’s an environmental disaster and I’m not sure what it achieves, but will stand corrected.

OMG, I wonder this too!
Why on earth does a toilet bowl need to be squeaky clean? I honestly do not get it at all.
I read somewhere that the cleanest part of a house tends to be the toilet bowl. WHY?
Are we eating off of it? What?

I'm ashamed to say that you had me right up until you said housekeeper 😂🙈

I clean it thoroughly once a month as I want to help my 2 cleaners who are so busy cleaning out the orangery, the 2 conservatories, the stables, and mowing the grass on our 3 acres of lawn. And the housekeeper is just so busy cleaning the west wing of the house that gets frightfully filthy after all the balls and proms we have there.

One of your groundskeepers should be doing the orangery and your 3 acre lawn, do talk to your head gardener. I do recommend a bit of grazing sheep on lawns due to the cost of living crisis and need to cut down on fossil fuels/CO2. I’m sure the grounds team has an apprentice that can go round and scoop the sheep poo. Makes good compost for the rose garden.

A housemaid and window washer can do the conservatories. But never at the same time, wouldn’t want any hanky panky going on.

1 groom for every 3 horses should clean the stables. Unless you have Arabians, those are horse royalty and should each have their own groom.

Housekeepers do not clean, that’s servant abuse. 😱 Instruct the housekeeper to hire some more housemaids from the estate villages. Usually you’d want half a dozen per wing to keep up the minimum standard.

Meh. When it needs doing, depending on my health at the time. I live alone so I keep the sink and toilet relatively clean as I go. The windowsill, shower, and floor-moppage gets done every few weeks usually - if I’m not well enough it goes longer and can get a bit manky 😳

TastesLikeFlavourlessFizz · 05/11/2022 23:18

Once a week but there are no kids in here.

Honestly, when I notice it's looking a bit grim.
I am juggling so many things I don't have time for daily cleaning and nobody has died yet.

Must admit I’m pretty much the same. Mind you, dh has never once cleaned the bathroom, so that might be an interesting question to ask too.

allboysherebutme · 05/11/2022 23:19

Quick clean every day after my shower. X

No you don't eat off the toilet but the flip to that is no one wants to sit on a dirty toilet either.

Shouldawouldacoulda30 · 05/11/2022 23:23

Am obviously revolting…loo if any skid marks ,sink when I use it and bath very occasionally. We all shower 🤷‍♀️

Afterfire · 05/11/2022 23:24

I wipe down the shower after every use and clean the sink and toilet every few days. I do a deep clean once a week ish.

1224boom · 05/11/2022 23:32

Once a month deep clean by the cleaner. Then I wipe the sinks and spray shower stuff every now and then.

Always happy to see a comment like this! I stick clean towels in and I'm winning!

PeloFondo · 05/11/2022 22:22

I clean it as I see it - so I wouldn't leave toothpaste or soap scum or poo marks ever
Just don't have a designated "I must clean the bathroom today" so it can be weeks technically

Maybe my cleaning pattern is weird Grin so if I went into the bathroom now and the sink looked dirty, I clean it. Walk down the hallway and spot some dust, wipe it. But I don't really do specific cleaning hours/days if that makes sense

This. As it needs doing. Having guests coming may prompt a proper clean but if I see something needs doing I just do that thing, not whole bathroom.

Absolutely this. Technically I clean them every day, but in practical terms… it’s just keeping on top of it with a quick wipe down and a more formal clean about once a week.

Numbat2022 · 05/11/2022 23:48

I honestly wonder if anyone on here actually works. Who cleans their toilet every day?! 😂

Anyway. I clean the bathroom when it looks grotty, or when someone is coming over. I would love for someone to explain to me when I'm supposed to have time to deep clean the bathroom when I'm always either working or parenting a three year old. Can't clean the bathroom when he's around unless I shove him on the tablet, which I will happily do but he would interrupt me every few minutes and probably touch something bleachy. So I have to negotiate with DP to get time to do big cleans. Hence they don't get done much.

Cleaning a toilet takes about 5 mins. Whizz round with some spray and sponge and then fling some bleach down it and scrub. Or whatever cleaner you like. Or leave the stuff down and come back and scrub it later.

I used to chat to my dc whilst they were in the bath and clean around them. Obviously you can’t do that when they’re babies but a 3 year old is fine with some bath toys and chatting away to you whilst you do the sink etc. If you’re worried about cleaning products around them you can use non bleach stuff like Method.

I mean it’s absolutely fine if people don’t want to clean / do less cleaning but if you want to there are plenty of ways to do it.

Lattedream · 05/11/2022 23:57

Daily I bleach the loos and a quick spray of bath /shower and sink and wipe over. Takes 2 mins and I always put some zoflora in sink during day to smell good

weekly I do same but mop floors and clean floors and windows and dust/clean shelves and mirror

TheBirdintheCave · 06/11/2022 00:10

Once a week the whole house is cleaned. We are minimalists so it's very quick to dust and hoover.

The kitchen surfaces are wiped down every night.

I couldn't clean the bathroom every day. There isn't the time or need. I'll wipe down the sink or use the toilet brush if need be though.

SeemingOKToday · 06/11/2022 00:15

Probably once a week ish for a proper clean.

In between that I usually wipe over the sink with hot water on my hands every day (20 seconds) and I tend to clean the inside of the bath in the same manner, with my feet when I'm in the shower 😂

Notcontent · 06/11/2022 01:29

I would like to say that I do a deep clean once a week but some weekends I just don’t have time. If that’s the case, I do a quick non-deep clean! So toilets and basins and anything else that looks a bit dirty.

Theoldwoman · 06/11/2022 03:07

One bathroom and one separate toilet here for 4 adults and extra hang-ons. Toilet get cleaned twice a day, basin daily, bath after use and shower weekly.

I deep clean the toilet on Mondays ( remove the seat and soak in the bath with a bit of bleach)

Robot cleans floors daily and I mop a couple of times a week.

Furries · 06/11/2022 03:38

Sapphireordiamond · 05/11/2022 22:27

The Organised Mum Method is to clean something different in your bathroom every day. Not the whole thing. So could be:

Monday: Clean loo
Tuesday: Mop
Wednesday: Clean bath
Thursday: Wash and change bath mat and towels
Friday: Clean sink

Each job is meant to be a quick and easy one, so you don't get overwhelmed and don't do it.

(Disclaimer, I don't do this: I binge clean when DPs mum announces she's dropping by, I can speed clean the bathroom in 5 minutes flat. I do clean the sink most nights while I brush my teeth though).

I do similar, but based on something I saw on here a while ago. It’s helped it stick in my head better. I have a bathroom, a shower room and a downstairs loo (all 3 have a loo).

Monday - Mirrors
Tuesday - Toilets
Wednesday - Wet things (sink, shower unit)
Thursday - made me laugh, they decided on”thower thcreen)
Friday - Floors

This is obviously assuming that you automatically rinse soap/toothpaste scum daily and that you don’t leave loos to fester!

HairyMcLarie · 06/11/2022 04:40

Wtf is a 'deep clean' anyway?

SmokedHaddockChowder · 06/11/2022 05:00

I never clean the bathroom in one go.
I bleach the toilet one day, wipe around the sink another, clean the mirror another, wipe the floor another, clean the shower when I'm in it etc.
So I do it piecemeal, with no set routine.
