How often do you clean your bathroom?

I know The Organised Mum Method says everyday and I just want to know if that’s genuinely the norm. I manage more like twice a week…

Our en-suites and downstairs lavatory and cloakroom get basins, bath and lavatory every day by my husband or I. The cleaners do a more substantial clean each week of the bathrooms and lavatories that have been used. The children’s and guest bathrooms are cleaned after they’ve departed and given a quick freshen up before they arrive.

nannybeach · 05/11/2022 22:08

I cannot believe people clean their bathrooms weekly or less often. You leave hair, soap scum, toothpaste, poo marks . Bath/basin surfaces daily, toilet after use, which is frequently as we're at home most of the time, and have IBS. windowsill, floor, mirror weekly, and gloves on,and descaler down the toilet.

Annabananna1 · 05/11/2022 22:08

Proper clean once a month.

Wipe the loo seat, flush and tap / skink, probably every 5 days.

Can't remember the last time I changed the bath mat but probably coming on for 6 weeks.

Needless to say my place does not look like a show home.

TenoringBehind · 05/11/2022 22:09

Once a week. Downstairs bathroom more often if visitors are expected.

Daisy62 · 05/11/2022 22:13

Oh god I don’t know or much care. When visitors are coming. Usually. If there’s time.

AuntieMarys · 05/11/2022 22:15

Once a week. I have 3 bathrooms.

BuryingAcorns · 05/11/2022 22:17

Loo every day
Sink and mirror every other day
Shower surround every time I use it
Bath once a week
Tiles about once every 3 months
Floor once a month. It never gets dirty.

Lindy2 · 05/11/2022 22:19

We have 3 bathrooms. I aim for a proper clean once a week.

I clean it as I see it - so I wouldn't leave toothpaste or soap scum or poo marks ever
Just don't have a designated "I must clean the bathroom today" so it can be weeks technically

Maybe my cleaning pattern is weird Grin so if I went into the bathroom now and the sink looked dirty, I clean it. Walk down the hallway and spot some dust, wipe it. But I don't really do specific cleaning hours/days if that makes sense

XenoBitch · 05/11/2022 22:23

Seriously, the last time my bathroom had a proper clean was in 2021.

PolaDeVeboise · 05/11/2022 22:25

Are you scared the world will end if people aren't as uptight as you, @nannybeach ? You do what works for you, let them be them.

Sapphireordiamond · 05/11/2022 22:27

The Organised Mum Method is to clean something different in your bathroom every day. Not the whole thing. So could be:

Monday: Clean loo
Tuesday: Mop
Wednesday: Clean bath
Thursday: Wash and change bath mat and towels
Friday: Clean sink

Each job is meant to be a quick and easy one, so you don't get overwhelmed and don't do it.

(Disclaimer, I don't do this: I binge clean when DPs mum announces she's dropping by, I can speed clean the bathroom in 5 minutes flat. I do clean the sink most nights while I brush my teeth though).

RoseMartha · 05/11/2022 22:27

Once a week but will clean individual areas as needed. Eg the sink one day and the bath another etc.

BadgerLovesMash · 05/11/2022 22:27

I aim for every day but realistically the downstairs toilet is done once a day sometimes every other. And the upstairs bathroom twice a week, sometimes once if it's been a busy week!

I do dust lounge surfaces and hoover the whole house and sofas everyday (I have cats who's fur makes me itchy and sneezy so it's a necessity!)

Kitchen is washed up and cleaned everyday as its tiny so no room to cook or prep food if washing up is left!

I tend to stick on a 30 min wash load and get all the jobs done while it's going then hang up the washing. None of the jobs take that long as it's mostly done every day so no chance to get really dirty!

As for extra jobs like cleaning windows, doors and skirting boards... I dont even know when they were last done 🙈

LordMooey · 05/11/2022 22:27

When the stars align and I see it looking manky, find a cloth/scourer/old toothbrush within arm's reach, and have five minutes to spend in the bathroom without having to rush off to do something else. It's a haphazard method, but nothing is utterly disgusting and nobody has died.

torthecatlady · 05/11/2022 22:28

I clean the bath, sink, toilet, mirror every day. Then sweep, mop and doing a full clean every 10 days or so if it's looking a bit gross.

Firesideassembly · 05/11/2022 22:28

Once a week but I also do the Flylady daily swish & swipe.

Dobbycraft · 05/11/2022 22:30

I wipe the sink and toilet about once a week, other than that I only do a proper clean when we have people coming round or I can't stand how horrible it looks anymore (can be anywhere between a week and a month 😁)

Discovereads · 05/11/2022 22:30

That’s my DH’s job. Not my department.
Its usually sparkling though, so no complaints from moi.

SouperNoodle · 05/11/2022 22:32

Cleaner does a proper clean once a fortnight but I wipe around the sinks and put bleach in/scrub the loo every few days.
Bath gets a rinse every other day.
Shower washes itself when I'm in it 😂😂

PurpleButterflyWings · 05/11/2022 22:46

I clean it thoroughly once a month as I want to help my 2 cleaners who are so busy cleaning out the orangery, the 2 conservatories, the stables, and mowing the grass on our 3 acres of lawn. And the housekeeper is just so busy cleaning the west wing of the house that gets frightfully filthy after all the balls and proms we have there.

I'm ashamed to say that you had me right up until you said housekeeper 😂🙈

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 05/11/2022 22:51

Not often enough! Although the shower screen and windowsill do get wiped down after every shower to prevent mould and the bath gets a good rinse out afterwards. My sink only needs a quick wipe over cos I don't tend to spray or splatter toothpaste all over it and the toilet. Well I should remember to shove harpic down it more often but it isn't un clean, well apart from the back of the seat when the toilet lid closes. That seems to magnetise dust to it something chronic. The toilet does get cleaned a lot more during my time of the month though but that's mainly because seeing blood on any part of the toilet takes me right back to my 4th miscarriage.

thelobsterquadrille · 05/11/2022 22:51

Once a week but there's only two of us (both adults) so it doesn't really get that messy. Shower and sink are rinsed out after every use.

Emily1583 · 05/11/2022 22:57

Weirdlynormal · 05/11/2022 21:44

Why bleach the toilets though? Genuine question and I’m not being snarky. It’s an environmental disaster and I’m not sure what it achieves, but will stand corrected.

Bleach is one of those weird Mumsnet marmite splitting opinion things isn't it. I personally defend my right to put bleach down my loo.
