Would you have a fourth Covid jab if pregnant?

roarfeckingroarr · 05/11/2022 09:39

Just that really. I've had my first three without worrying but I wasn't pregnant then. I'm 34, usually slim, no health conditions.

I don't want the fourth but can't really articulate why not. I think it's partly because I don't feel scared of Covid at all and partly because I don't want to take any risks with pregnancy and a fairly new drug.

Yes of course I would. I wouldn’t want to increase the risk of becoming ill and worst case scenario (but not impossible) actually dying.

AnneLovesGilbert · 05/11/2022 09:42

I discussed it with my consultant and he’s said not to for now. I’ve had my others but this is a new one, it’s a highish risk pregnancy and I’m well with no particular other risk factors so I’m following his advice.

Aknifewith16blades · 05/11/2022 09:43

Yes, I would. Worth discussing any concerns with your doctor or midwife, but being pregnant might make you more at risk if you get Covid, and the jab has been given to lots of pregnant women now without problems.

I had mine at 36 weeks a couple of weeks ago - was offered it a few weeks before, pondered it a bit like you but ultimately decided that getting COVID at 36+ weeks pregnant would be pretty bad. Had the flu jab too (for the first time) and didn't wobble on that one although I know it's not new so not really comparable.

tb4122 · 05/11/2022 09:46

I had mine at 35 weeks. I was a little apprehensive but having had Covid in my second trimester I really didn't want it again. I had Pfizer for my other three vaccines and I was a little concerned about getting the Moderna Spikevax but when I expressed this concern they were happy to give me Pfizer instead. I had no side effects at all.

7Worfs · 05/11/2022 09:46

I had COVID in the second trimester, it was similar to a cold but with extra fatigue.
Never taken the jabs.

Selfesteem22 · 05/11/2022 09:47

Yes - getting covid is dangerous for both you and the baby, Vaccine v v low risk - when. I had my 2nd was when swine flu was around with similar risk factors for pregnant women and had the vax without thinking about it

Lapin387 · 05/11/2022 09:51

Yes, I had it last week. Flu jab at the same time. Very happy to protect me and baby.

C8H10N4O2 · 05/11/2022 09:53

Yes, and the flu jab.

roarfeckingroarr · 05/11/2022 10:00

I've had my flu jab. I'm just a bit wary of the Covid jab (despite having 3) and don't feel worried about Covid. Maybe because these jobs have been hurried out or because I think the priority is "protecting the nhs" rather than protecting individuals (my baby). I've never felt this way about a vaccine before so trying to work out why and whether it's rational.

I've had covid twice, once in 2021 before I had the vaccinations and I was virtually symptomless with it bar loss of taste and smell. I had the two vaccinations late 2021 and honestly was sick for a couple of days after both.

Currently pregnant, no boosters and had covid last month. Just had a headache and lethargy. I am personally not getting the covid vaccination due to my body's response to covid/the covid vaccine and how I have weighed up the risks.

I have got the flu/whooping cough vaccines though.

Laughingmole · 05/11/2022 10:11

I had mine last weekend. I thought about it and although I’m not worried about catching Covid myself (I’ve had it twice this year), I decided I wanted to have the jab to give the baby immunity when he is first born and prevent him being really poorly.

lilroo87 · 05/11/2022 10:12

I was pregnant end of 2020 and had first baby end of July 21, didn't have any covid jabs.
Pregnant with baby 2 arriving end of January and still haven't had covid jabs.
I haven't had covid as far as I know and no-one has mentioned having the jab this pregnancy so I won't bother.

Somatronic · 05/11/2022 10:15

I had 2 boosters in pregnancy. There's no known danger to the foetus from the vaccine whereas there are known dangers from Covid.

Covid itself is infinitely more risky than the vaccine.

The vaccine wasn't "rushed out", in the sense you mean. It is based on robust, tested MRNA science, and was worked on by collaboratively by thousands of researchers and scientists globally to deliver a safe, effective solution quickly. There's no need to be wary of the vaccine.

MrsSkylerWhite · 05/11/2022 10:16

Yes, and our daughter did. Please do, it’s the best protection for you and baby.

SheWoreYellow · 05/11/2022 10:18

It was only the gaps that were shorter between the stages in the testing, the vaccines all went through the same process as any other new vaccines.

Overoptimistix · 05/11/2022 10:19

I had covid at 9 weeks and was really ill. I took the opportunity to have the booster at 36 weeks because covid is quite high in the hospital near me and I was worried about getting it and being too physically exhausted for labour along with all the complications of being in hospital with it.

catchthedog · 05/11/2022 10:19

there's lots of evidence of how dangerous covid is now in pregnant women unfortunately so yes I had it as soon as I was able to even though I was only 5 weeks.

dogmum93 · 05/11/2022 10:20

I certainly would, there's been a link between covid in the second trimester and preeclampsia, which coincidentally was the case for my SIL.

No. My husband has now got a pacemaker we believe due to myocarditis caused by having 3 vaccines. I would not get a covid ‘vaccine’

agahah · 05/11/2022 11:22

I had the first 3 and have decided not to have the 4th whilst pregnant. I would have it after just don't feel that the evidentiary chain is robust enough to expose my baby to at present.

wishuponastar1988 · 05/11/2022 11:25

Nope. I had first 2 jabs and no more. Declined them in pregnancy and got covid when I was 36 weeks pregnant. I'd already had covid before and the midwife agreed I probably had some antibodies.
