To me it’s always been FATHER CHRISTMAS!

Every book I seem to read to my children containing said jolly man with white beard calls him SANTA BLOOMING CLAWS! (I have to change it even if it means the book no longer rhymes).
i can cope with St Nicholas but just cannot abide by Santa! Argh!
Is this just me?

@DownNative

Bless you but I haven't said any of these things.

You can imply things without saying them.

Captain Marvel said, "That does not negate the Scottish and Irish use of Santa."

And Father Christmas is used alternately as opposed to implying they stick with just the one. 🤷‍♂️

Well, you certainly thought you had a valid point about the YouGov poll when they take population sizes into account in order to have a representative sample.

Bless you...

Santa for us. Both my grandmother's used to call him Father Christmas though so I thought maybe it was just a thing with the older generation.

He's always been Father Christmas to our family, but I'm aware it's largely regional. I do get defensive about it though, as I do when my daughters say lunch instead of dinner!
Living in a "pretty" touristy town with lots of incomers it makese me sad that my local dialect is dying out & I count Father Christmas as part of that.

It is Santa in Ireland and Scotland. I have never heard anyone say Father Christmas in real life.

Or Santy, even 😁

And in Irish Gaelic, he's called "Daidí na Nollaig" which is literally "Daddy Christmas" or "Father Christmas".

Crikey, there's a blast from the past. I remember older relatives of mine in the 70's referring to Daddy Christmas! Had completely forgotten about that. Am in NI.

I always assumed "Father Christmas" was Santa's aspirational middle class name.

Love it 🤣
