Cinema - although I've only done this once and it was last minute (Prima Facie)
Drink alcohol
Travel / holidays

I won't do alone:
Eat out IN a candlelit type restaurant
Bars / clubs

I've found myself a bit reluctant to do things by myself in the town I live in as I think people I know could see me, and think "what a friendless wierdo".

Away from the town, practically everything. I camped by myself this summer, for the first time ever, and found it surprisingly ok.

Toddlerteaplease · 04/11/2022 18:00

I do every thing on my own. It's either that or I don't do it.

Fink · 04/11/2022 18:04

I would do most things alone: cinema, restaurants, short break holidays (I might get too bored with a longer holiday alone) ...

The things I don't do alone are mostly organised activity type things like canyoning, climbing, diving. I just feel awkward turning up to things where I have to interact with other people and they're all in couples or families, I don't mind things where there's no interaction but if we're in a group together then it doesn't feel quite right.

Ain't that the truth? 😁

Toddlerteaplease · 04/11/2022 18:08

@TellingBone it really irritates me when people say that they want to do something. But can't go on their own. Err for goodness sake just go.

Ilovedthe70s · 04/11/2022 18:28

Apart from activities that I take my grandchildren to I do everything alone as I have no one to do anything with. My husband died 30 years ago, I have no friends in this country, the closest one is 200+ miles away, and my children have their own spouses so don’t want to go anywhere with me.

After so many years there really isn’t anything or anywhere I wouldn’t do alone.

N0RKS · 04/11/2022 18:29

I am happy to do anything outside the house in my own
but I will NOT go down the cellar alone in case the trap door TRAPS me

WonderingWanda · 04/11/2022 18:34

Things I get to do alone...drive to work, go to the toilet.

Things I don't do alone because there always someone there wanting me to do something for them....everything else!

dameofdilemma · 04/11/2022 18:35

Hiking in woods or a remote country path is the thing I can't bring myself to do alone. I just don't feel safe. I should just get over it but I'm an urban girl at heart.

It's a shame as I love hiking and dream of doing a solo walking holiday (though dp is a bit miffed at that!)

I volunteered at a festival for the first time this year, alone. Was great! Buddied up with other people- loved it. I'll do it again next year 😊😊😊

There’s a lot of things you can do alone but in all honesty aren’t that enjoyable. I’m sure I’ll be told I’m wrong!

Toomanysleepycats · 04/11/2022 18:45

I accidentally went by myself for a meal in a nice restaurant on Valentine’s Day. Didn’t realise the date til someone came in selling single red roses.

I didn’t bother me when I realised. It crossed my mind to wonder if I should start sighing and looking at my watch, but I couldn’t be arsed.

I do quite a lot of things on my own and mostly prefer it. Only things I don’t like doing solo is when I feel unsafe, but that’s because a man actually grabbed me from behind when I was much younger and walking home alone at night.

I bit his hand and screamed, he walked away muttering “bitch”.

maddiemookins16mum · 04/11/2022 18:46

I’d do anything (and have). I was staying with a friend in Florida once (she lived there) and I went to all the theme parks alone. There was always someone to talk to in the queue and I had a great time.

YesILikeItToo · 04/11/2022 18:51

I saw a Disney fan alone at the ‘meet the characters’ breakfast in Eurodisney and I was so impressed at the way the characters made as much fuss of her as the children.

NancyJoan · 04/11/2022 19:00

Anything like meals/cinema/travel/shopping. I’m very sociable, but lots of things are more enjoyable solo, especially staying in a hotel.

I will not walk after dark except in very well lit, busy areas because I don’t feel safe.

Alone-

cinema

Coffee shops

Hotel stays as long I can go on the train or the drive down doesn't include motorways.

If I'm abroad I will swim in the sea on my own but only if there's plenty of other people around and I take note of a landmark near by. Only because the one time I sat minding my own in a rubber ring at St Petes beach and ended up drifting up along the beach. It took me bloody ages to walk back and find the rest of the family

Won't do on my own

Eating out, will eat on my own at MacDonalds though

Go on a Plane

Arenanewbie · 04/11/2022 19:24

Would do alone (and do) :
drinking alcohol, shopping, going to cinema/ theater/concert/ museum/ zoo, will go for coffee and cake on my own.

won’t do alone :

  • restaurant- I only do them for meeting people, for food I go home.
  • pub/ nightclub/bar
  • travel or theme park ( but these will do only with DH and DD, won’t do them with other people)

Can vouch for this! I was at Disneyland Paris alone for the race weekend, and on the last night couldn't be faffed with big noisy self-service restaurants (tricky on your own as you can't reserve a table while you queue for food!) so I splashed out and went to Café Mickey with my kindle. Expected to be tucked away on my own and largely ignored but the characters made more of a fuss of me than anyone else I think GrinBlush

I have great pictures of Donald Duck sat at the table with me like we're on a date GrinGrin

If you like clubs, imagine you go alone. You walk in, get a drink, go and dance.

Someone says 'are you alone?' you say 'I'm here with friends but they're in the other room'

The only way they'd know is if they were stalking you which would be either creepy or great depending on how hot they were.
