AlwaysBloodyWorrying · 04/11/2022 15:38

I do alone:
Eat out
Shop
Cinema - although I've only done this once and it was last minute (Prima Facie)
Drink alcohol
Travel / holidays

I won't do alone:
Eat out IN a candlelit type restaurant
Bars / clubs
Theme parks
Festivals

I do everything alone. Well not theme parks because I hate them but everything else.

Firstaidnovice · 04/11/2022 15:47

See, I think of going to the cinema as a primarily solo activity. I don't go at all really anymore, post kids, but I used to go at least once a week as a single person about town in my twenties.
I did recently take a two night solo trip back to London (where I used to live in my twenties), and had a blissful 36 hours of basically not talking to anyone! I love my family very much but do miss being alone. I felt a tiny bit bad for not telling any of my London friends I was around, but goodness it was worth it. I didn't eat out alone mind you, weird m and s buffet food in my hotel room watching romcoms in my pyjamas. Better than any spa weekend imo

Alone:
Theatre
Cinema
Restaurants
Sports events
Holidays & travel, inc overseas
Shops (but not a big fan of shopping generally)
Drink alcohol
Stay in hotels

Can't think of anything I wouldn't do alone - wouldn't ever go to a theme park. Maybe a gig, but that would be rare.

BucketofTeaMassiveCake · 04/11/2022 15:52

I go out for a coffee/cake alone whilst shopping, but not a full meal. I went to the cinema alone many years ago but wouldn't do so again.

If I need to climb the stepladder to do any job, even if it's just to change a lightbulb, I prefer to have a visitor present in case I fall and do myself a mischief. I don't like the idea of lying on the floor with an injury and unable to get help.

Mardyface · 04/11/2022 15:52

I think I would take it as it came. So I wouldn't rule out doing anything alone because it's too inhibiting but if it came to it I probably wouldn't bother going to a theme park alone. The romantic restaurant one has reminded me of the time DH and I went out for a valentines dinner and there was a lone man on the table next to us flicking his newspaper irritatedly. So maybe not that either.

DameHelena · 04/11/2022 15:54

I don't go to candlelit type restaurants, clubs, theme parks or festivals anyway, alone or not. Hypothetically I'd go to a bar alone in somewhere like a nice hotel with good service, and sit at the actual bar and get spoiled by the bartender, only I don't drink.

I'd do/have done all the things you do alone. I'd add theatre and art galleries. I particularly love solo gallery trips as I don't have to put up with people going much faster/slower than me or talking while I'm trying to look.
I've also been to Wimbledon with people and solo and prefer it solo; can go wherever I want, hang out on an obscure court if I fancy, etc.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 04/11/2022 15:56

Wouldn't do theme parks because I'd rather eat my own eyelids than go to those. Festivals, who'd notice you're alone? candlelit restaurant....if it was early evening. Anything else, no problem.

SpinningFloppa · 04/11/2022 16:01

Loads
wouldn’t eat in a restaurant alone
wouldn’t go cinema alone
wouldn't go to theme park alone
Wouldn’t go on holiday alone
wouldn't go to a club or bar alone

probably more but that’s all I can think of

PottyDottyDotPot · 04/11/2022 16:01

I think I’d do nearly anywhere on my own. I enjoy my own company.
I have two friends that will do hardly anything on their own.

PottyDottyDotPot · 04/11/2022 16:03

Cinema on my own is something I do a couple of times a month and I love it, I can pick a film and not worry if anybody else will like it. It’s a few hours of escapism and one of the most relaxing things I do.

Solosunrise · 04/11/2022 16:03

Alone:
Eating out
Cinema/theatre
Walking in daylight
Museums ( although company is nice)

Prefer company:
Walking in the dark/out of the way places
Going into the loft!
Sea swimming

^ all safety related I guess

CookPassBabtridge · 04/11/2022 16:04

Do:
Gigs
Cinema
Cafes
Holiday
Spa
Gym
Bar

Don't:
Busy restaurants
Zoo
Bowling 😂

PottyDottyDotPot · 04/11/2022 16:05

Bowling
you would always win!

If I wasn't happy to go anywhere on my own I'd never go out!

Oh but you could get really good at it then trounce friends and family.
Or just give yourself a bad back like I did!

Mardyface · 04/11/2022 16:24

I think playing crazy golf on your own would be cool. Especially if you were
really serious about it.

JohnsShirt · 04/11/2022 16:25

I've done them all alone this year.

SleepingStandingUp · 04/11/2022 16:27

Do:
Cinema, theatre, music gigs,
Eat out, go to a pub
Holiday

Don't :
Eat At buffet places

SleepingStandingUp · 04/11/2022 16:28

Oh yes

Yes:
Spa

No:
Theme Park or zoo

Bluekerfuffle · 04/11/2022 16:29

I wouldn’t eat out at a restaurant alone. A food court type place, yes, but not a restaurant, it would just feel too uncomfortable.
Can’t think of anything else I wouldn’t do alone.

How come?

Ted27 · 04/11/2022 16:32

If there is something I want to do, I do it,

I would only go to a theme park in the company of children, but I don't like them so wouldn't go for myself, I also wouldn't go clubbing because I don't want to.

AffIt · 04/11/2022 16:33

I'm happy to do most things alone (I'll happily hike and camp solo, bloody LOVE going to restaurants by myself, also museums / galleries and the cinema), but I think a theme park by yourself would be a bit odd and not as much fun.

Probably the only thing that I really impose a hard no on doing alone is wild swimming (but that's mostly because I'm not a very good or confident swimmer and prefer that there are others around from a safety PoV).

BobbyBobbyBobby · 04/11/2022 16:34

There is nothing in my life that I can’t do alone/by myself.

waterlego · 04/11/2022 16:36

I would do anything alone except a theme park or clubbing because I avoid those places anyway.

I very rarely go to the cinema so I haven’t done that alone, but have been to restaurants, bars and gigs by myself.
