SAD winter support thread

Apologies i can't find last years threads but they were a massive help checking in or just reading how everyone was doing day to day to get through the difficulty of winter. So many of us suffer from SAD and no amount of hyge and cosyness makes up for it.

That’s so distressing and depressing at the same time. I know someone who slipped and broke her wrist last week. Multiple fractures. Thankfully she wasn’t far from a big hospital. I must ask her how long the ambulance took.

Iamnotavicar · 19/12/2022 09:54

So sorry to hear of those fractures, sending good wishes for speedy recovery.

Iamnotavicar · 19/12/2022 09:55

I've had a thoroughly miserable few days, am really feeling the winteritis at the moment. I feel like doing something to mark the solstice on Wednesday, but mostly I can't be bothered

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 21/12/2022 08:12

Happy Winter Solstice! From tomorrow it can only get lighter and brighter.

I'm laid up with an injury so can't do much to celebrate but will acknowledge it with love and look ahead to better days! ❤️

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 21/12/2022 08:33

I am currently performing at a Santa's Grotto and have been dragging myself out of bed every day at dark o'clock to do a 10 hour shift spreading Christmas cheer.

I finish on Christmas Eve and then plan to sleep from Boxing Day to NYD. 😫

We’ve all made it to winter solstice. Fingers crossed for better, brighter days ahead.

I keep crying at stupid things today but think it’s because my anti depressants ran out on Saturday and I’ve only just been able to pick up my prescription today.

AutumnScream · 21/12/2022 20:43

Thank god for winter solstice, brighter days ahead! Im so sorry your struggling re antidepressants.

Merry Christmas to everyone 🙂.

I'm going out for a walk with DS after I've had a coffee.

MissyB1 · 25/12/2022 17:07

Yes merry Christmas, lighter days will be coming soon. I went on a long dog walk, then watched “The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse” beautiful, made me cry,

Sounds perfect. Think i will have to swerve that film then. Watched Elf last night and nearly started crying at the end. Elf ffs. Stupid hormones 😂

Merry Xmas everyone I need to see that film 😊

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 03/01/2023 20:57

How is everyone getting on? I was doing great over the Christmas holidays but I was back to work today and feel back to square one, like a dark cloud is hanging over me and I’ve had a few panic attacks already 😭. I’m on the countdown to leaving and starting my new job…

MissyB1 · 03/01/2023 21:16

Yes this week is hard - January blues are hitting me. We’ve had relentless rain and high winds all day, and that will continue for the next few days apparently. That doesn’t help.

On the positive side I went back to my Pilates class this evening.

Cakemonger · 04/01/2023 01:40

Well done for going to pilates @MissyB1

Today I went out determined to get out and keep my spirits up despite the January gloom but the universe had other plans - I ended up driving around to 4 different pharmacies in the rain to find out there is a shortage of my antidepressant medication and that no one has it which was a shocker - it's hard not to notice the state of things in the UK at the moment and feel a bit down/scared. I then tried to go to my favourite bakery for a treat but it was closed with no warning so I gave up and drove home. Still determined to try and stay positive and get out every day but can't deny the effect of the dark and the gloom on my mood at the moment.

MissyB1 · 04/01/2023 07:34

@Cakemonger yes what’s happening in the NHS is very scary at the moment, and shortages of medicines seems to be getting more common. Just adds to to the stress of the daily grind.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 05/01/2023 13:41

I’ve been signed off work until I leave as I just can’t do it. I feel really anxious about sending in my sick note though as my manager isn’t being very pleasant at the moment 😭.

MissyB1 · 05/01/2023 13:45

@Idratherbepaddleboarding it doesn’t matter what your manager thinks you need to take care of yourself. And the Dr wouldn’t sign you off it if wasn’t necessary. Sorry you are feeling so bad at the moment.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 05/01/2023 15:28

Thanks @MissyB1 , I’ve sent it now so hopefully it’ll be ok. I feel a lot less anxious already. I have a new job starting in a few weeks and I know that’ll help a lot!

AutumnScream · 07/01/2023 00:43

Good luck with your new job! How are you feeling today?

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 07/01/2023 14:50

Thanks @AutumnScream, I feel ok today had a lovely walk with DH and the dog in the sunshine between torrential rain storms!

whatisforteamum · 07/01/2023 19:10

Has anyone noticed it is fractionally lighter now.
By the end of the month it will be a good 15 mins which is great.
I'm swearing by my Vit D for helping me this yr.
Also a new job which is a change of routine.

AutumnScream · 11/01/2023 13:28
