Tassimo Dupes

NotLovingWFH · 02/11/2022 07:48

I’ve been given a Tassimo coffee machine which is lovely but I can’t believe how expensive the pods are. Google says they are not compatible with any cheapy pods though Dolce Gusto etc are.

Just wondering if anyone has found an alternative that works well in a Tassimo or I’m stuck with a worktop accessory I can’t really afford to use regularly.

You're not looking for "dupes" that are pretending to be the real thing, you're looking for compatible pods. I think the Costa ones fit? We have a Nespresso and very rarely buy Nespresso pods.

Ohmych · 02/11/2022 07:55

I got one as a gift too and the pods are so expensive. I haven't found any dupes. I used to buy a box a week and then just have one pod a day. At the moment though I can't afford any so it's just sitting there taunting me. The Tassimo packs have shrunk too and the prices have gone up. There used to be 8 drinks in a pack and now they're are 6.

Melliphant · 02/11/2022 08:03

If you use the black coffee pods and add your own milk you get twice as many drinks to a pack - and ordering online it's still 16 pods in a pack rather than the smaller supermarket pods. I use the L'Or ones - 30p a cup at home for something much nicer than a high street chain £3 cup. You get the recycling bags if you order from Tassimo directly too. Even the black coffee emerges really frothy, so that plus unfrothed milk still makes a lovely cup.

FixTheBone · 02/11/2022 08:23

Expensive depends on context - Yes, more expensive than nescafe, but a fair bit cheaper than costa/starbucks.

I get my pods on subscribe and save on amazon (£19 for 40 flat whites).

You can get refillable pods that you can grind and put your own coffee in - tempted to try more to avoid the plastic waste than anything else.

I dont think you can get compatible pods as the machine scans a barcode on top of the pod.
The dulce gusto and nespresso pods have loads of compatible supermarket alternatives available.

caramac04 · 02/11/2022 08:39

I buy from Kaffekapsle. They are much cheaper than anywhere else I’ve found. Delivery is a week to ten days.
They offer different varieties and for other coffee machines too.
They are online, based, I think, in Denmark

Melliphant · 02/11/2022 09:22

Thanks @caramac04, good tip. Huge range of pods there.

have just looked at this site - they look great. Starbucks and Costa, but also some more unusual European brands I hadn't heard of. Worth a try.

You also don't need to send the capsules back for recycling, we got one of the gadgets below for our pods, it opens them up and separates the metal case from the coffee, you can then rinse the pods and put them in with the rest of the metal recycling and put the coffee on the garden or whatever else you want to do with it.

There is a way! I have never done this, but I did see a YouTube video of someone opening the pods up and refilling with ground coffee they buy in a big bag (hence cheaper,) a bit faffy for me, but have a look on YouTube and check it out!

Melliphant · 02/11/2022 09:55

@FamilyTreeBuilder Tassimo pods are plastic (plus foil plus grounds) and can't be recycled at home - they do need sending back.

FamilyTreeBuilder · 02/11/2022 10:00

Ah I wasn;t aware of that. I know the Nespresso ones are either plastic or aluminium, we always choose the metal ones.

JudgementalCentipede · 02/11/2022 10:06

It's annoying me so much that the pods are so expensive that I'm hoping that Tassimo go bust because people are tightening their belts and therefore not buying them 😂 My sister won my Tassimo machine and gave it to me. I would never have bought one knowing 1. The price of the pods and 2. Tassimo deliberately make it impossible for dupes to exist.

wibblewobbleboard · 02/11/2022 10:33

I tried refillable pods for my dolce gusto machine. They were crap.

FamilyTreeBuilder · 02/11/2022 10:50

I don't think coffee pod companies will struggle. People will trade down - if you are used to getting a takeaway coffee on the way to work, you'll instead trade down to using the pods and making one at home to take in. Or if you're finding pods too expensive, you'll go back to cafetiere or instant.

Brilliant gadget idea! I’m getting one of those as I get sick of the recycling bags - don’t take them often enough to the shop

Yes you’re right, darn it I will just have to be more organised and recycle more frequently.

JenniferWooley · 02/11/2022 13:33

My mum has just replaced her Tassimo with a Dolce Gusto for this reason!

Tassimo pods were on offer at Tesco 3 for £11 with a Clubcard the other week but I've noticed they aren't on offer very often these days.

I can get actual dolce gusto pods in B&M's, poundstretchers etc & Asda & Aldi do their own compatible pods.

wibblewobbleboard · 02/11/2022 13:36

Lidl do a great dolce gusto dupe - there's a red one is like the Lungo and a purple espresso one I love.

Purpleavocado · 02/11/2022 13:53

Looking at that coffee website, I hadn't realised how much more expensive the Tassimo pods are compared with Nespresso. I'm now thinking of replacing my Tassimo machine, has anyone changed to Nespresso and do they like it?

picklemewalnuts · 02/11/2022 14:10

General pod coffee question...

I just acquired L'Or machine, that's compatible with nespresso. I'm using the Lidl own brand pods.

The lungo is marked strength 5.
The espresso is 9, I think.

If I make use the espresso pod but press the lungo button, won't I just end up with a strength 5?

Basically the strength seems to be about the amount of water rather than the coffee!
I'm confused!

I use dolce gusto and I just use a pod to make a cup of whatever size 😂 so I'd do what you're suggesting.

IDontLikeMondays88 · 02/11/2022 14:52

You can buy reusable pods from Amazon and just fill them with ground coffee

NotLovingWFH · 03/11/2022 06:47

Well thank you for all the replies. How very disappointing that I seem to have acquitted a machine I’ll probably never use as there aren’t any compatible cheap pods. I will have a look at Costa ones but I doubt they’ll be any less to buy. I really don’t think I can be bothered with refilling them I just wanted to be able to buy huge packs of pods that weren’t extortionate, instead it’s all silly packs of 6 for quite a lot of money.

@caramac04 I think I’ve just found the uk site for this thank you, just going to have a look at what they offer

I thought I'd want refillable capsules. In fact, I use it for caffeinated coffee which I only have once a day, so don't bother.
