If you eat and buy chocolate bars, do you buy Mars Bars?

Lighthearted because anyone gets too tied up in knots and asks me for peer-reviewed evidence.

I was raiding sorting through the trick or treat bowl earlier and nabbed a Mars Bar, for quality control purposes. It dawned on me that despite a lifelong love of chocolate, and regularly buying bars, I’ve never actually purchased a Mars Bar.

Then I was thinking about my family and how I’ve never seen any of them eat a Mars.

I used to work in a corner shop during uni and we sold Mars but they were never a good seller- Twix, Dairy Milk, Snickers yeah, but not Mars Bars. Seemed to be more popular with 20-something male construction workers grabbing a meal deal, IIRC.

Anyway, like I said, lighthearted but for the chocolate bar buyers out there, any diehard Mars Bar fans?

I loved Mars bars when I was a kid (so talking forty years ago) they were massive. I don’t buy them because their size is disappointing. I love an Asda’s fake Twix, a scrumptious bite in every mouthful and about 80p for four or maybe 5.

DoodlePug · 31/10/2022 16:20

No, I'm a sugar addict but those large bars of chewy chocolate taste awful to me now.

If I had to I'd have a Marathon 😁

I like more crunch with my chocolate, chocolate biscuits every time.

Mars of a Twix are my two go tos

No, and my celebrations leftovers are always Mars.

I do like the Mars ice cream bar though.

EmeraldEagle · 31/10/2022 16:33

I've never bought one & they are always the last things left in a box of celebrations in our house!
My grandad used to love the, they where is absolute favourite & my mum would always buy him the biggest multi pack for his birthday and Christmas

Fluffygreenslippers · 31/10/2022 16:36

I like Mars bars for dipping in tea

MarigoldMoonStone · 31/10/2022 16:46

I do if I need a full on chocolate sugary fix

5yearplan · 31/10/2022 16:50

I haven’t had one for years and I think I would find them gross now.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 31/10/2022 16:52

I love the fact that people are saying Marathon instead of Snickers. I still say Marathon. Not had a Mars bar for years. Do like them frozen though.

jtaeapa · 31/10/2022 16:54

I love a mars bar. Prefer the size in the 80s/90s rather than the poky little thing you can buy in shops today. As a child, me and my brothers worshipped mars bars.

WireSkills · 31/10/2022 17:17

Love them out of a celebrations tin, so bought a full sized one a couple of years back. My god it made me feel sick - so much sugar!

Same for the frozen ones - so yummy, but my goodness I can't cope with a whole one!

And I say that as someone that is carrying probably about 5 stone too much weight!

Brokendaughter · 31/10/2022 17:24

Not for years because they taste disgusting.
Since all the big companies changed their recipes into chemical stews made of who knows what I don't think anything Mars or their parent company make counts as chocolate.

So, I only get the expensive stuff, where I don't need a specialist dictionary to translate the ingredients list.
It tastes amazing & costs so much you'd need to take out a personal loan to overeat it, so it remains an actual treat.

LadyApplejack · 31/10/2022 17:37

No, and I do like them! In my mind they're just too fatty and greedy, same a Snickers. Which is stupid logic as all chocolate bars are bad and god knows I don't deny myself!

Butteredtoast55 · 31/10/2022 18:22

Mars Bars are heavy duty chocolate bars so I would rarely buy a full-size one but I love the mini ones and Celebration-size. I go for a Star Bar or, since Cadbury went to rack and ruin, a Galaxy.

AriettyHomily · 31/10/2022 18:27

Never buy a mars but am quite partial to a celebration mini one

BCBird · 31/10/2022 18:31

Hate them. 🙄

I like Mars bars for dipping in tea

This! It’s the only way to eat them. My favourite treat 😁

onlythreenow · 31/10/2022 18:41

I don't buy them a lot, but there are times when I want a Mars Bar and nothing else will do. I had one last week - it was yummy!

maddiemookins16mum · 31/10/2022 18:44

Not if there’s a red Bounty on the shelf next to it.

CorporateBull · 31/10/2022 18:45

All of the Mars/Cadburys sr

CorporateBull · 31/10/2022 18:47

Oh, please give us an edit button!

All of the Mars/Cadburys stuff is way too sweet for me now, but I used to love Mars Bars and deconstruct them.

A favourite memory is the time I was bought a kingsize one on a holiday and I made it last a fortnight by licking at it and then wrapping it up again. Mostly to drive my younger brother mad as he had inhaled his at first sight.

BiscuitLover3678 · 31/10/2022 18:48

Yes but it’s very heavy, a bit like snickers. I prefer a twirl or a flake.

BadgeronaMoped · 31/10/2022 18:49

I live Mars bars and I will never forgive Mars for discontinuing Topic bars. Mars Easter eggs are my number one.

BadgeronaMoped · 31/10/2022 18:49

Love Grin I think I'd be a bit unhealthy if I lived Mars.

notsosoftanymore · 20/11/2022 13:38

Glad to find others who think Mars bars need to be cold from the fridge or frozen. I used to eat them that way but actually I haven't bought or eaten one for years now.
