If you eat and buy chocolate bars, do you buy Mars Bars?

Lighthearted because anyone gets too tied up in knots and asks me for peer-reviewed evidence.

I was raiding sorting through the trick or treat bowl earlier and nabbed a Mars Bar, for quality control purposes. It dawned on me that despite a lifelong love of chocolate, and regularly buying bars, I’ve never actually purchased a Mars Bar.

Then I was thinking about my family and how I’ve never seen any of them eat a Mars.

I used to work in a corner shop during uni and we sold Mars but they were never a good seller- Twix, Dairy Milk, Snickers yeah, but not Mars Bars. Seemed to be more popular with 20-something male construction workers grabbing a meal deal, IIRC.

Anyway, like I said, lighthearted but for the chocolate bar buyers out there, any diehard Mars Bar fans?

No, although I had one recently and it wasn't very nice at all. I sometimes buy the aldi version which I prefer. Used to buy Mars delight all the time until they discontinued them. Mars bar ice cream are lush

BagOfBollocks · 31/10/2022 15:01

I love a Mars and do buy them from time to time!

Off Topic (pun completely intended) but the other night I was in London and before a Theatre show I fancied chocolate. The cheeky fucker in the sweet shop wanted £1.99 for a normal sized Mars bar!! 😱😡

Mars bars are always the last to go out of a tub of Celebrations in our house, they're so boring and taste of nothing!

TooShyShyShhh · 31/10/2022 15:03

@diddl asda & home bargains definitely do walnut whips in a 6 pack box, I prefer the whips tbh.

BobbyBobbyBobby · 31/10/2022 15:04

Not really a fan of caramel but if there was absolutely nothing else and I wanted (needed 😩😂) chocolate I would buy and eat one.

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 31/10/2022 15:05

I buy the multipacks to chop up, melt, and turn into rice krispie cakes, and one might make it into my tummy. But I wouldn't buy one just to eat.

I saw some recently but thought that they must be the Christmas ones!

Never liked a Mars Bar as much as a Marathon. Too squishy/claggy and not a fan of caramel

Rockingcloggs · 31/10/2022 15:09

We do a lot of mountain hiking - one of our snacks of choice to take with us are Mars Bars. As a PP says they help us work, rest & play!!!

Toddlerteaplease · 31/10/2022 15:12

I like them, but you tend to eat them much quicker than blocks if solid chocolate that you can suck each piece until
It dissolves. So the chocolate eating experience is to quick.

maranella · 31/10/2022 15:14

No, far too sweet for me. I like 70% dark chocolate.

houseargh · 31/10/2022 15:15

Almost never but they are delicious out of the freezer - like chocolatey, chewy rock

EnjoythemoneyJane · 31/10/2022 15:23

Never. Love caramel but I’d pretty much choose anything else, mainly because of the floofy over-sweet nougat stuff (only thing worse is a Milky Way & if that was the only chocolate available I’d go without).

I also associate it with being a bit too big and sickly to eat on the go, but I think that’s an association from years ago, bc they now seem to be about half the size they were originally.

Tinner01 · 31/10/2022 15:23

@BedTaker that marketing is interesting as where I am from we have a chocolate bar called a “Bar One”- very similar to a Mars bar- and it used to be marketed as “giving you energy for a 25-hour day”!

amillionrosepetals · 31/10/2022 15:37

I eat a snack size Mars Bar every day.

Radishspadish · 31/10/2022 15:38

No but I desperately want one now!

BedTaker · 31/10/2022 14:52

I love Mars Bars but I haven't bought one for years.

Remember in the 90s, weren't they being marketed almost like a health food 'the goodness' of the milk in it helped you work, rest and play! Grin

Ha, I was coming on to post exactly the same Grin I still find myself thinking, I dont have time for a full meal but need something, a Mars will do as that helps you "work, rest and play" Grin

excelledyourself · 31/10/2022 15:50

I will very occasionally notice them in the vending machine at work and buy one, but other than that, no. If I'm buying chocolate just for me, it's Green & Blacks, or some other solid chocolate - Galaxy, Dairy Milk, Lindt, etc. If I'm buying a multi pack for the cupboards, it's something like Toffee Crisp, Lion Bar, Curly Wurly.

CanYouFeelMyHeart · 31/10/2022 15:51

No, they really hurt the roof of my mouth for some reason.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 31/10/2022 15:53

Mars Ice Creams are God tier foods

MidnightMeltdown · 31/10/2022 15:59

Too sickly for me but I like the Mars ice cream bars

Deadcatsboneytale · 31/10/2022 15:59

I really dislike Mars bars, they are way too sweet for me. I do buy them though for the sweet tin, as I only buy sweets I don’t like. So I have a stock of chocolate eclairs, Haribo and Mars bars. Actually I’ve remembered, Mars bars melted with single cream make a nice hot sauce to pour on good quality vanilla ice cream, I do like that.

hattie43 · 31/10/2022 16:11

I love mars bars

butterfliedtwo · 31/10/2022 16:14

Years ago. I buy snickers or marabou.
