Desperate for advice, in a lot of pain *[Content warning: graphic image included]

And I can't get a GP appointment.

It's been months and I still cannot, and don't want to trouble hospital with this! It isn't an emergency.

Basically, something is sticking out of my anus and causing horrific pain. It is getting worse and worse. I use to be able to push it back in, but now it's out all the time and it feels like whatever this 'thing' is, my anus is strangling it

The pain gets so bad I want to vomit. And I have a high pain threshold

It's just awful: please can anyone advise me what to do? What could it be?

Thank you

TMI shot, look away now

I've got (harmless and not painful) skin tags that I've had for many years - I'm talking about the bright pink thing

Sorry but I'm desperately in need of some idea at what this is Sad

Looks like a pile to me. Might be too big for it to make a difference but have you tried pile cream? Will at least numb the pain for a bit while you try to get an appointment

miceonabranch · 31/10/2022 13:04

It'll be piles. You need some Anusol suppositories and a stool softener laxative. Take oral painkillers and try to increase your fresh fruit and vegetable intake and decrease wholegrain foods, bread etc. as these can irritate the bowel.

Piles? I don't think I've had them or seen them irl but I hear they can become strangulated or thromboses? Apparently the pain is pretty intense and and throbbing.
Hope you get some relief soon that does look sore! Can't believe the state of the nhs now but that's another subject.

desperadolady · 31/10/2022 13:04

@Notanotherwindow thanks so much, it's been there months and won't go back up. It feels like my insides are sticking out, it's that painful at times!

Pile cream works a bit at numbing the outside but whatever it is, actually feels strangulated by the anus and I can't get up that far if that makes sense Blush

Prolapsed haemorrhoid I’d guess ie piles.

If you can’t see a GP, I would ask a pharmacist as a first step - most have a little room where they can take a private look and advise.

When it first started I managed to get a GP appointment due to a cancellation, but, the GP had a look and said he isn't sure what it is?

So he did refer me. But my appointment for colorectal isn't until July 2023

I would go to the GP, they can prescribe something stronger. Make sure you drink fluids and don’t strain.

Unforgettablefire · 31/10/2022 13:07

Good god July?? No way that's just silly can you go to a walk in centre? You can't suffer like that for nine months!

idonotmind · 31/10/2022 13:08

Er, A and E, pronto

minipie · 31/10/2022 13:08

That’s a bit rubbish! Any other GPs you can see?

If it is a prolapsed haemorrhoid it sounds like there are some fairly simple treatments that may work eg tying it off or injecting it so that it “dies” and falls off basically. But need a dr to do these.

A&E will laugh me out surely!

Thanks again so much for having a read and understanding Blush it's so embarrassing I'm having to resort to uploading a pic but I just wanted some reassurance I didn't have part of my bowel or something leaving my body!

Will continue to bug the GP but getting an appointment is maddening

OP - I would say due to the amount of pain you're in, it is an emergency..

And I'm asking MN to put on graphic pic warning... it's lunchtime....

PrettyMuchBollocks · 31/10/2022 13:14

Seriously op, if my backside looked like that I’d be taking it to A&E. That level of swelling needs treating, it’s not just that pile in the middle that’s causing the problem.

Thank you Blush

Although there's no pain elsewhere. The other part around the actual bit that's painful has been around for years, just skin tags that don't hurt at all

Ahh ok (also have a ton of elephant ear tags in that area. Thanks crohns😳🙄). Have you tried a suppository treatment that contains some steroid? That plus a cream might help. A pharmacist should be able to advise. Also, taking something like movicol to keep your stools looser might reduce the pain when you’re “going”, so to speak. I’d still get someone to look at it sooner rather than later.

Bepanthen (the baby) cream is quite soothing mixed with your piles ointment too. And wiping with some baby lotion on your toilet paper is less agonising than plain loo paper or baby wipes.

Notanotherwindow · 31/10/2022 13:59

I've had some success using a tampon applicator. Not with the tampon in it obviously but just putting cream in it and giving it a bit of propulsion. 😂

Blocked · 31/10/2022 14:00

You could do an online consultation with a private GP?

MyOnlyDays · 31/10/2022 14:27

I know that this might not be possible so apologies if it isn't but can you afford to go private, at least for the first visit. By the time you've spent XYZ on creams etc it might be

ancientpants · 31/10/2022 17:01

Hi, it could be a thrombosised pile. It's not dangerous but they are incredibly painful. I'd advise a+e tbh because the treatment of it would be beyond what a GP could offer.

sueelleker · 31/10/2022 17:53

Looks like piles to me. You could try Preparation H, which has lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, in it. www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwiYtvSdhIv7AhUKEcAKHfrRBLAQFnoECBoQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.preparationh.com%2F&usg=AOvVaw2n13BYk3XWSUVy5bWu62Zf

Powderandpaint · 31/10/2022 18:39

That could be a rectal prolapse OP, please go to A & E.

desperadolady · 01/11/2022 14:46

Just in case anyone was wondering what happened or stumbled upon this thread in the future -

I went to A&E in the end as I was in so much pain. Turns out it was a rectal prolapse going gangrene... I'm still in hospital now

Thanks Mumsnet!' If I didn't ask, and just took actual medical advice that wasn't that great, I'd still be very unwell
