Selling stuff on Vinted

justwondering123456 · 29/10/2022 19:59

Hi,

I created a Vinted profile today and I listed my first item there this evening, shoes from Jigsaw.

Do any people on here sell on Vinted and if yes, are there any selling tips they can give me?

Do you find it worth it?

Secondly, I am not sure how to price things on there.... The shoes I listed were almost never worn, cost me almost 100 pounds and Vinted suggested selling them from 10-14 pounds.

My husband thinks I set the price way too low.

Vinted does sell cheap on the whole. But unlike EBay it doesn't constantly bother you with recommendations to lower the price. So set the price you want - it may take longer to sell but someone may come along eventually. Vinted does get a lot of traffic so it's not difficult to sell stuff. For higher price items paying to 'bump' can be a good investment - a lot more people see your items.

Titsflyingsouth · 30/10/2022 09:37

In terms of 'how long it takes to sell' - how long is a piece of string? It just depends who is looking on the day. I've had stuff that's sold in half an hour and other things that have been on there a couple of months...

Fairyliz · 30/10/2022 09:51

I’ve never sold on Vinted but as a buyer can I put in a plea?
There’s always several photos but often no description of the item for sale, in particular what fabric it is and you can’t always tell from the photos. I would pay more for something that’s wool compared to polyester.
Yes I know I can message sellers but if they take a couple of days to get back to me it’s probably easier to buy something else.

Lcb123 · 30/10/2022 09:55

I’ve always sold on eBay for years but recently a convert to Vinted it’s so much easier. Certain brands always seem to do well. Depends if you need to sell quick and therefore cheap, otherwise list for more and wait!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/10/2022 08:09

How does it actually worked compared to eBay? You list the item + postage costs? Do Vinted take a % from the seller, or is it charged to the buyer? Can you sell bundles or can buyers ‘create’ bundles from your listings?
I’ve sold loads through eBay but their costs are high and I fancy a change.

The price the seller lists for us the money they receive. The buyer pays for postage and fees.

you can sell as a bundle in one listing or set up bundle rates where the buyer choose 2,3 or 5 items with a % discount.

it’s far superior to eBay IMO

DeborahVance · 31/10/2022 08:19

It's less hassle than eBay but I do find that things go for far less. I now price things a few quid more than I would take, wait until someone favourites something and then send them an offer.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 31/10/2022 08:32

I tend to approach Vinted selling as a chance to see if I can make a few quid before giving it away to charity. This means I'm never the cheapest but depending on item condition I tend to price towards the top end. If I believe an item's worth more I'll price higher and I've sold several of these.

Lots of good pictures that set your item apart from other similar pieces can help.

Then at the end of each season I'll perhaps relist any unsold item or maybe create a bundle with it and if it still doesn't move it's off to the charity shop.

The way I look at it my time is worth more than faffing around going to the post shop for a quid Wink

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 31/10/2022 08:33

I also find my sales are like buses ... nothing for weeks then several in as many days Grin

MadameOvary81 · 29/10/2022 20:36

I've made a couple of hundred pounds in the last 4 weeks since I joined. I'm quite surprised, actually.

Things i've noticed: brands like Zara/Mango/Warehouse fly really quickly. The lower you price, the quicker they go, too....folk want a bargain!

One thing I will say....if you are new, and you have no reviews, just having one item, a £100 pair of shoes will make people wonder if you are one of the many scammers lurking on vinted. Buy a few things, get some 5 star reviews and then possibly your shoes will sell. But generally, the higher priced items tend to sit a while. I just bought a designer handbag to put away as my Christmas present and the person had had it listed for several months.

Good luck though. It becomes addictive after a while!

This is a great point re the scamming that goes on.

Your suggested price of £30ish sounds sensible though. Good photos of excellent condition soles and heels will help and take photos as you pack to prove the condition too

Apologies finally read full thread!

Great news OP!

I looked into but honestly felt like I'd only make about £20 and with all the hassle of packing and schleping out to post it etc I decided to just give to a local charity instead. I had to weigh up time lost v low return!

PicsForCliques · 31/10/2022 08:49

I’ve just made £20 this morning since 8am on stuff that’s been lying around. I honestly don’t find it a hassle. I have some postage bags from the pound shop, I literally just fold the item, put it in the bag (so takes seconds), print the label and stick it on. I don’t send via Royal Mail so I just drop it off at the local shop. From the item selling to me sending it i genuinely spend 3-5 minutes folding and printing and the shop is 2 doors down from me.

CornishGem1975 · 31/10/2022 08:56

I have a toddler and teens and work full-time and would have to make a special trip to a post office or a shop which just makes me think faff. In reality maybe it wouldn't but it just feels like something else to add to my mental load!

It was the messaging and the likes i found a faff. As i said i got 2 offers which i accepted then no payment!

PicsForCliques · 31/10/2022 09:29

Yeah I know what you mean, that would
piss me off.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/10/2022 10:29

Thanks. I might try it, I have always got on well with eBay as a buyer and a seller but it all seems like tat on there at the moment and very expensive.

CornishGem1975 · 31/10/2022 10:48

Sounds as bad as Facebook Marketplace @bruffin !

I sell loads on Vinted. Bought myself a Radley tote bag with last summer's sales and I'm just about to buy something else (possibly another Radley bag).

If you don't want the notifications just turn them off. Same with the emails.
People get notified of recently listed items first, but then they can see your entire stock, so list regularly. I try to sit down with maybe 3-5 items at a time rather than a huge number, and just list them. It's much easier to list than Ebay.
People don't always actually buy stuff they've offered for, or asked for a bundle price.
Make sure you don't go by Vinted's suggestion of parcel size if it's not realistic (e.g. they will say a woman's dress is a small parcel which would be Royal Mail Large Letter, you'll never get that in a Large Letter, and then your buyer would have to pay extra postage and be p'd off).
I've just found out I needed to remove some options of postage as there was InPost which is 5 miles away for dropoff so I've got rid of that and one or two others.

justwondering123456 · 31/10/2022 18:56

I posted the shoes to my buyer today. It was very easy. I printed off the label, put the shoes in a big envelope with bubble wrap (they were loafers so that was sufficient), stuck the label on the envelope and dropped it off at my local Evri parcel shop, which is 5 minutes walk from my house.

I'm concerned about the pay-out. I'm not going to be sending Vinted photos of my ID/passport, but I've belatedly seen that they (might?) demand it (over which they've been referred to to a few countries' data protection authorities). If I just keep the credit on the vinted and use it for another purchase, will that work fine without them demanding outrageous proof of identity?

drspouse · 01/11/2022 11:58

I don't withdraw it, I just spend it on MEEEE, I've never been asked for proof of identity.

Tromboncini · 01/11/2022 17:24

Well done OP - you’ll now be addicted and looking around all the stuff in your house…!

I've just created an account on there, but I'm a bit confused about how the postage and packing works. How do you know how much to charge for postage? Do you need to be able to print labels at home?
