My new payslip

I've recently started a new job and got my my first payslip today. It's fucking loads! I was earning fuck all for years trying and failing to get promotion/raise with my old employer so I took my working-above-my-grade self off elsewhere and asked for what I thought I was worth.

For some reason I didn't quite realise what that actually meant until now seeing what's about to hit my bank account. I'm a single parent and have been skint for so long ... now, I guess, I'm not! Bloody hell. The relief! It's a really nice feeling.

Can't really discuss this with friends because it's not cool to talk about money in this way but I wanted to tell someone. Happy Friday everyone. Chippy tea for us tonight.

I am incredibly happy for you. Onwards and upwards @Wyomie go wild and add a bottle of something to that order.

DisforDarkChocolate · 28/10/2022 18:52

I can't believe you didn't check what you'd be taking home though, it's the first thing I used to do when I worked full-time.

Ah I had similar today; got holiday pay from my old job along with my last two weeks, and more from my new job because I assumed they cut off a week before payday and that’s not how they do it so I’ve had pretty much a whole months pay when I thought I’d get two and a half weeks at best.

New job is a whack more than old job as well.

Happy days! Enjoy.

Thank you everyone! How lovely you all are. I know times are tough for everyone rn so I appreciate your generosity of spirit. They were looking tough for me too - honestly I was really worried.

I've often seen women on here encouraging each other to know their worth so I decided to do it. New job was advertised as more than the old job anyway but then I went ahead and asked for more again. I've never done that before!

And yes I did put the wage into a salary calculator at the time I took it so I knew what I was going to get but it kind of felt theoretical until today. Plus I was so focused on learning the new ropes etc.

Now we're all full of chips and happy and I've got a bottle of white in the fridge. Happy days!

Congratulations to you too @TimeAtTheBar . It's a brilliant feeling isn't it?!

It is a GREAT feeling

I've got a new job starting January and it's a full £10,000 higher than my current salary

I can't wait to see that first payslip Grin
