My new payslip

I've recently started a new job and got my my first payslip today. It's fucking loads! I was earning fuck all for years trying and failing to get promotion/raise with my old employer so I took my working-above-my-grade self off elsewhere and asked for what I thought I was worth.

For some reason I didn't quite realise what that actually meant until now seeing what's about to hit my bank account. I'm a single parent and have been skint for so long ... now, I guess, I'm not! Bloody hell. The relief! It's a really nice feeling.

Can't really discuss this with friends because it's not cool to talk about money in this way but I wanted to tell someone. Happy Friday everyone. Chippy tea for us tonight.

Amazing well done OP.

I remember many moons ago, coming off benefits and then starting full time work. I felt LOADED!

Have fun!

Love this! What are you going to treat yourself to that you couldn't before?

senua · 28/10/2022 17:27

Congratulations!

Sorry to be a killjoy but have you checked the calculations? The first payslip can sometimes be a-typical so don't assume that you will get this much every month.

Ahhh congratulations OP! This was me 6 months ago. Absolutely no regrets. I wonder if you’ve left my old firm too 😉

DomesticShortHair · 28/10/2022 18:08

It really is only when you see those numbers in black and white that it really hits home. Congratulations!

I really don’t mean this to take anything away from the feeling, quite the opposite, I’m pleased your so happy. But remember, it may take a bit of a dip if you haven’t started paying into your workplace pension yet. And every time I’ve had a pay rise, it’s always seemed great for a couple of months, and then you just kind of adapt to it (and spend it!), so you lose that excitement. So try and remember this feeling for as long as you can! Remember, it’s not just pay, it’s also opportunities and overdue recognition.
