To start a thread for those of us on baby night shift?

Hi all,

First night on duty, forgot how lonely it can be whilst the worlds asleep so I thought I'd start a thread instead of online shopping Grin

I thought we can talk about what we're doing to past the time, just chit chat, recommend tv shows/books whatever we want.

So far tonight I've watched senior year, not sure if I'd recommend it though, it did the job an easy watch but meh.

I also tried vampire diaries and not sure if it's because it's a product of it's time or really marketed towards teenagers but I found it a bit cringe, does it get better??

I can't sleep as baby is on my chest, she seems really refluxy and I've changed her twice due to being sick everywhere but she's settled nicely on me so I'll leave her to it.

Congratulations!! A brand new baby is just so squishy and special.

I’ve been up feeding my 7 month old. It’s his first night in his own bedroom, hopefully he’ll sleep better there. He’s not slept for longer than 4 hour stretch since about 4 months and I’m back at work full time whilst still doing all the night feeds (breastfeeding). I’m knackered!

I'm back at work next week, just spent the last two weeks getting my 8 month old onto the bottle. Hard work!!
Good luck with it all xxx

amc8583 · 29/10/2022 03:44

Hello everyone, I'm awake too! My nearly 6 month old isn't a great sleeper ar all. She's been recently waking up 6/7 times a night for feeds. I'm a tired mama!

shilohsmum · 29/10/2022 04:00

Hi OP, my baby is 6 weeks old and up at least 4x a night. Had a diabolical day with him yesterday. FTM so it's all new.

Only consolation was watching The Mornjng Show on Apple TV which is sooooo good. Not new but I hadn't seen it yet.

How did you do it @Bbomb?!

hi everyone, I’ve got an 11 week old who is pretty good, first wake up of the night so I’ve had a decent chunk but am slightly bleary eyed anyway!

Bordesleyhills · 29/10/2022 04:30

Nearly 3 week here

Polkadotpjs · 29/10/2022 04:44

No babies here- children yes but they're fast asleep as is the dog but my DH just left for the airport as he's working away and I'm wide awake. I had two dreadful sleeping babies but after age 2.5, suddenly turned into great sleepers.
Hope you're all ok. I've made a cup of tea and contemplating getting back up to watch tv

beepbeep · 29/10/2022 04:54

No longer babies, but sat in car park waiting for eldest to arrive back from a sports trip abroad!
I remember fondly the time in the quiet of the night with my babies, but can’t say I don’t enjoy my sleep now!!!

TabithaTittlemouse · 29/10/2022 05:16

Congratulations on your little one!
I’m up with a different type of baby, a puppy who likes to bark at night because he misses me 🙄

Polkadotpjs · 29/10/2022 05:26

@TabithaTittlemouse had one of those too. I treated him like a baby. Stayed with him 3 nights on sofa and then he slept through
Kids didn't sleep so I figure the dog success was justified!

CrabbyCat · 29/10/2022 05:39

I'm back up with my 3 year old again. We're on holiday, hoping he'll go back to sleeping slightly better at home!

I remember very vividly how relentlessly long the nights were when struggling with feeding tiny babies. Good luck all of you!

MSJK · 29/10/2022 05:56

3.5 month old here. Congrats on the baby OP! After a few weeks of horrible sleep, he slept through till 5.15am. I am delighted! Changed, fed and currently asleep on my chest as I’m building the courage to attempt to put him back down in his next to me. It’s amazing how different sleep is post-baby. Beforehand I would have been devastated with a 5am wake up, now I’m over the moon!

Found this thread whilst up feeding my 3 week old. Nice to not feel alone! Those who watch tv whilst up in the night, do you watch in your bedroom or go downstairs? If it's the bedroom, do you wear headphones so as not to disturb your partner? I generally just stay in bed to feed the baby (and change him on the window seat in the bedroom) but my husband often falls back asleep especially during a longer feed. I wouldn't mind sticking some tv (on my iPad) but wouldn't want to wake my husband. No idea where my headphones are and can't really be bothered taking the baby downstairs when we're warm and snuggly in bed. Just wondered how others did it?

MrsBudd · 29/10/2022 06:47

I have such fond memories of a thread I was on on MN when my first was born. there was a group of us chatting every night and it was so nice not to feel alone in the middle of the night. Solidarity with you all, it does get better but it is bloody hard work when you're in the thick of it!!!

@Polkadotpjs he’s 6 months old and we thought we had conquered nights but he’s seemingly gone back to waking at all hours.

Polkadotpjs · 29/10/2022 09:00

@TabithaTittlemouse oh no! Sleep regression 😬. I hope you managed to get him back off. I got 2 more hours and planning my day. DS10 (years old not number 10) has awoken with bad earache. We swam yesterday so I fear it's infected though he says it's when I accidentally kicked him. Ears are tricky things in this house. He did loads of diving down and somersaults so he's maybe hurt it with all the water whooshing. That or it's infected and time for the horrible red antibiotics!
Hope everyone is ok this morning. My dog is snoring after being woken by husband airport taxi. Coffee time !

I have wireless headphones that I use to watch Below Deck! Get an episode in a night feed / wind and settle perfectly

Is anyone else up tonight? I've finished my snacks and feel sleepy, so hoping if I put baby in his crib he will stay asleep for a while 🤞🏻

mynannygoat7 · 18/11/2022 00:39

I am here with a three week old!

Tezco · 18/11/2022 00:56

Ooo hello!

My little one was three weeks old yesterday, she was actually meant to be born today via c section and her due date was Saturday weird how it's all worked out!

She's a bit gassy and fussy tonight so it's cuddles and being pinned to the sofa! I'm thinking about watching some silly movie, I've finished motherland and that was quite funny randomly watched freaky Friday last night so thinking about what I should do tonight Brew I have uni work to do but balancing a baby and a laptop on my knee is quite difficult Grin

Disgruntledpelicanlady · 18/11/2022 00:58

Awake cuddling my 4 month old. She's deep in sleep regression territory and has spent the past 3 days screaming and refusing to sleep longer than 45 mins and only sleeping when being cuddled.
She's snoring away but I darent move 😬

mynannygoat7 · 18/11/2022 01:17

I am actually working too! Typing one handed Smile

WineAndDontDine · 18/11/2022 01:23

I'm here too guys! Haven't slept yet. Babies poorly 😢

ElmTree22 · 18/11/2022 01:55

5 week old sleeping on me tonight because she has terrible reflux. Trying to keep myself awake but it's proving difficult!

Eek3under3 · 18/11/2022 02:45

I’m awake. My 3 month old is asleep on my chest. Trying to enjoy and not think of how much I would love to sleep!

bakewellbride · 18/11/2022 03:17

Hi all. Hope everyone is doing ok! I'm up for the 2nd or 3rd time with my nearly 8 month old 😔 so tired.
