Sorry!

I've stuck with it and need inspiration for Xmas!

Got great advice here recently on vegan breakfasts 🙂

Nut roast, all the veg (mainly potatoes and carrots tbh), creamy pea soup, vegan ice cream and truffles. Maybe a vegan Thai green and red curry in the evening.

ITriedToStopSwearingButICunt · 27/10/2022 20:49

Thanks @NellesVilla
Do you buy the nut roast or make it?

Sounds lush NellesVilla! .I would add to that vegan gravy.....Made a vegan chestnut ring one year, can't remember who created the recipe. Was some work but was delicious.

ToastandJamandTea · 27/10/2022 20:58

I had the vegan sausage wreath from Lidl last year and it was lush!

notprincehamlet · 27/10/2022 20:59

The vegan society website has a very straightforward and tweakable nut roast recipe. The veg is the best bit of Christmas dinner so it's a very easy meal to veganise!

I had the vegan sausage wreath from Lidl last year and it was lush!

I think I’ll have this.

DM makes the best vegan gravy, normally I’ll have the veg and nothing else. I was never a huge meat lover and didn’t miss it.,

ITriedToStopSwearingButICunt · 27/10/2022 21:07

Ah, I do like the sound of the Lidl sausage wreath; no effort required!
I'll look into nut roast recipes, though it's not been great when I've made it in the past. Been a long time since I tried, though.

I agree about the veggies... I love the carrots, sprouts, parsnips, roasties and gravy!

If I can find the recipe, a nut roast and mushrooms in puff pastry.

We always used to have smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for breakfast. This year we're going to try tofu scramble and vegan salmon.

siriusblackcat · 27/10/2022 21:19

I made a vegan wellington last year, was delicious. Had it with all the trimmings.

Sunandflowers · 27/10/2022 21:19

Last year I made a lovely pithiver. Basically puff pastry with butternut squash, mushrooms and chestnut stuffing. It was gorgeous.

and all the usual trimmings.

ITriedToStopSwearingButICunt · 27/10/2022 21:25

Ah, that's interesting @Sunandflowers

One of my previous 2 (vegetarian) Christmas dinners, that I've made a couple of times each, have been:

My "Christmas Cracker" - puff pastry in a cracker shape, filled with roast mashed squash, mixed with onion, walnuts and blue cheese. So, very like your pithiver. Blue cheese would have to be subbed for vegan, though.

The other one is Stuffed red peppers... stuffed with very mushroomy risotto that also has spinach and some mashed up chestnuts in it and a bit of cheese for flavour. Again, the cheese would have to be subbed for vegan.

I love that everyone still loves "all the trimmings"!

I’m not vegan but usually have vegan haggis, roast veg (not meat/goose fat obvs) and it’s yum. But never ever be tempted by Tofurkey, which has to be the worst ‘food’ I have ever eaten. 🤢

choppolata · 27/10/2022 21:36

Roast and boiled and mashed potatoes!

WhoAteAllTheDinosaurs · 27/10/2022 21:47

Have made this a few times. V easily made vegan, and delicious!

And Delia's braised red cabbage (you can make it the day before as it keeps really well, also lovely with mash and vegan sausages)

ITriedToStopSwearingButICunt · 28/10/2022 07:25

Thanks for all your suggestions everyone, though the suggestion for potatoes three ways did seem a little... limited; much as I love potatoes!

I'm loving the suggestion of haggis and also the red cabbage. That will look lovely and colorful on the Christmas table 🙂

Vegetarian (well, pescatarian) so will either try a salmon dish or have veggie sausages. Would want them with yorkies.

Not over bothered about a trad Christmas meal as on my tod so can please myself. To be honest if I fancied an omelette I would go for that.

I have had nut roast in the past and prefer it not overdone with nuttiness!

Gilm0reGirl · 28/10/2022 08:15

I basically order the vegan M&S options, I find Christmas Day so hard because I have to cook the usual meat items for everyone I'm hosting (and a lot of it is in dept made from scratch family recipes I can't leave out) and as a result I either forget to cook mine, cook it the day before and reheat it (not ideal) or I end up burning it. Last year I told everyone it was a vegan Christmas as I'd had enough of doing so many dishes, but we ended up not hosting as we got back from Florida late, and my husband is joking that I had my chance last year, this year we have to go back to the usual 😂 git! He's offered to do the Turkey but honestly, that's not exactly hard!

Remind me why I agree to host again? 😆😩

ITriedToStopSwearingButICunt · 28/10/2022 13:59

Yes, I'm fed up of hosting too @Gilm0reGirl , so I'll be reaching for the Aunt Bessie's and Bisto!

I'll probably end up with a shop bought vegan thing... a Wellington, haggis, sausage wreath or M&S something or other.

Vbites tofurkey and vbites pigs in blankets, but anyone who doesn’t like fake meat can have the trimmings- roast potatoes, ginger carrots, roast parsnips, pickled red cabbage, brussel sprouts, stuffing, gravy and cranberry sauce. Soup to start, trifle and chocolate cake and artisan vegan cheese board for dessert.

Washyourfaceinmysink · 28/10/2022 14:17

i usually make this pie which goes down well with veggies/vegans and meat eaters.

www.redonline.co.uk/food/recipes/a501773/mushroom-and-ale-pie/

it’s a vegetarian recipe, but can easily be adapted for vegans - only need to swap out butter for frying mushrooms and milk for the glaze. And you can use ready made vegan pastry (eg Jus Rol).

I usually make the filling beforehand and then just assemble/ bake on the day.

Nagado · 28/10/2022 14:22

We’re having a vegan Christmas Day this year. Not through choice, but because I am a very nice sister & SiL!

Sainsburys have vegan pigs in blankets. We’ll be making home made vegan sausage rolls and M&S have some nice looking vegan mains. Sainsbury’s are doing a vegan no cheese chocolate cheesecake and Asda are doing these chocolate bauble things which look quite nice. If you’re after recipes, I can recommend Gaz Oakley’s Vegan Christmas book.

Kindofcrunchy · 28/10/2022 14:26

My husband is making a vegan Christmas pie :D pigs in blankets, stuffing, vegan cheese, homemade turkey seitan and roast potatoes in pastry... Literally cannot wait!
