He's devout Roman Catholic, you say?
Not that devout:

I think the battle of Agincourt was on St Crispin's Day or the day after. It was on 25th October, as indeed was Wellington's birthday. (No, not the duke.)

Anyone in Britain who has any learning is usually regarded as a useless fucker, and has to be jeered at. There is a lot of pride about being as thick as shit.

I think one of the reasons why Jacob Rees-Mogg is hated is that he is a Roman Catholic, but people aren't really allowed to say that out loud nowadays.

When he was on Question Time he said he'd voted against HS2 and that he thought that money could much better be spent on small improvements to railway lines already existing in the country.

I don't hate him because he's RC - I despise him because he's a hypocrite.

He opposes women's rights to terminations while investing his money on companies manufacturing morning after pills and contraceptives.

He bullies the poor and the vulnerable and the widow and orphan.

He hoards his wealth, attaching house to house and field to field, eating up the homes of the poor to add to his own.

He refuses to pay the labourer his worth, and tries to force down wages.

He "fills his barns" while the bellies of the poor are empty.

He boasts of how devout he is, but forgets the rich man being less likely to enter heaven than the camel is to get through the eye of a needle.

His heart is with his cash which he has made into his god.

He is a hypocrite - and he is despicable.

This gives me a little hope regarding Sunak, if JRM hates him so much, he cant be all bad.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 25/10/2022 22:30

@Emotionalsupportviper

"He opposes women's rights to terminations"

In the UK women don't have a right to a termination. They may have one if certain legal parameters are met.

lightisnotwhite · 25/10/2022 22:44

He opposes women's rights to terminations while investing his money on companies manufacturing morning after pills and contraceptives.

Why is that hypocritical? Both those things will stop women having terminations?

What's he actually done apart from be a bit weirdly Victorian to cause so much hate. I mean people have done much worse things at 19 then write a thank you note.

He sounds like he does a good job of being an MP. I know nothing about his track record but opposing HS2 seems sound enough.

EdieLedwell · 25/10/2022 23:15

I once heard him described as a haunted Victorian hat stand. I thought that was excellent 👌

He's also turning his son into a "mini me"
with matching double breasted suits. That should be classed as a crime against teenagers

Well, I don't hate him...I don't think hate is an appropriate response to anyone who is prepared to put their head above the parapet and work in the public interest (except possibly Nigel Farage, but then I don't think he's motivated by public interest).

But I deeply disagree with his analysis of many situations and I think some of his thinking is driven by a massive disconnection from the facts of life for most people in this country.

I have no objection to him being "a bit weirdly Victorian". TBH, I have a soft spot for genuine eccentricity, and this is fine when it comes down to top hats and wing collars or whatever, but when "weirdly Victorian" is one step away from re-introducing workhouses, it's not a nice attitude.

Morning after pills, by the Catholic church's reckoning, are effectively abortifacients, so shouldn't be used. Contraceptives are preventing conception - something which the Catholic church considers God's right to decide, and therefore shouldn't be used.

Rees-Mogg claims to be a good Catholic and devout Christian - but is somehow able to reconcile his conscience with anything that will make him money even if it flies in the face of the church's edicts and Christian teaching.

I agree that reading some of the posts that he appears to be effective in representing his constituents - this has surprised me, but credit where it's due - but that doesn't mean that he isn't hypocritical and uncaring of people's struggles, and motivated by personal profit.

upinaballoon · 26/10/2022 15:02

@Emotionalsupportviper, can you give a bit more detail about him attaching house to house and field to field?

Emotionalsupportviper · 26/10/2022 15:33

Isaiah 5:8* - It wasn't literal. It refers to the fact that he is accumulating more and more for himself at the expense of others. Jeremiah 22:14 would also have served.

All the references are biblical just because he claims to be such a devout follower of Christ - and yet doesn't seem to have a genuinely Christian bone in his body.

He is a clever and unscrupulous man motivated by self-interest and greed.

*"Woe to those who attach house to house and join field to field, Until there is no more room, And you alone are a landowner in the midst of the land!" Isaiah was bewailing the fact that unscrupulous rich men were taking to opportunity to buy up the land and assets of poor farmers during periods of famine and drought, forcing them and their families into virtual (and sometimes actual) slavery.

Wheretheskyisblue · 26/10/2022 15:34

It is worth listening to this video by Led by Donkeys of him. It covers his investment in abortion pills at around 4 mins.

He states he is completely opposed to abortion in all circumstances (including rape) from the point of conception, he then expresses his opposition to the morning after pill. A month later it is discovered he profits from its sale.

Playthegamebwah · 26/10/2022 16:00

And then he sells his investments in those companies and says he’s happy to say he doesn’t have shares in those companies anymore and that he was ignorant of what they did?

hes got many faults but I don’t think that’s one of them.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 26/10/2022 16:22

JRM is an odious excuse for a human being. He is an anachronism and has no place in politics- I truly believe he has no desire to serve the country or the people of this country.

If I had to decide who is more loathsome between him and Gove I honestly think JRM is worse - and I’m a teacher!

There are too many horrors sat in parliament today.

LaGioconda · 26/10/2022 16:31

JRM is certainly worse than Gove. When not dealing with education, Gove has actually shown a reasonable amount of sense and even humanity. The concept of being humane seems to be absolutely foreign to JRM.

peaceandove · 26/10/2022 16:49

55larry · 25/10/2022 16:52

He is actually an MP for North East Somerset and although most people on here don’t like him he is a very conscientious constituency MP and considerably better than the previous labour MP who didn’t have any answers for a group of A level students.

Have to admit that several of DH's family live in his constituency and he's well known for being a very attentive, conscientious MP.

Right so reading that link his company had shares in a pill where abortion was a side effect and was sold in Indonesia where abortion is illegal.JRM then disassociates his company from them when their misuse comes to light.
I’m not sure that’s evidence of him profiteering. He clearly doesn’t believe in abortion for personal reasons and not for political gain.

PrincessofWellies · 26/10/2022 17:00

I don't care what his views are, terminations are legal in this country and I abhor people like him who think their views are relevant to women.

This new government is just as toxic under Sunak as Truss. Utterly dreadful to live in a country where food banks are normalised, child poverty is growing and crime is considered a statistical issue 😕 😢 😡

Hmm even JRM admitted he profited, albeit "in a very roundabout way"
"It would be wrong to pretend that I like it but the world is not always what you want it to be,” he said.

On 18 October there was a vote to make bothering women going into and out of abortion clinics illegal. He voted against making this illegal.

If I have a savings bond with the building society and it was at 0.65% but when it renewed in summer 2022 it was changed to 1.4%, and someone else has a mortgage with that building society and that person's paying back interest rate has just gone up, am I accumulating more and more for myself at the expense of others?

Emotionalsupportviper · 26/10/2022 19:35

Are you his Nanny, @upinaballoon ?

Should you not be ironing some shirts?

Are you his Nanny, @upinaballoon ?

Should you not be ironing some shirts?

No, I've never been a nanny to anyone.

I might possibly have been willing to iron a few of Frank Field's shirts if he'd needed me to. When you asked that ironing question were you talking down to me, or trying to ridicule me in front of others or neither?

I'm a person who once had the term 'ad hominem' explained, so when people say that someone is a lazy fucker or has ridiculous kitten heels I say to myself 'ad hominem' or 'ad feminam', this person had to resort to personal abuse or personal remarks rather than argue a point politely. Some people on here will have just jumped on the abuse bandwagon.
