Scam? Something being delivered today that I haven’t ordered?!

LiIo · 25/10/2022 11:23

I received a text message and email from DPD this morning saying that they are delivering something from Curry’s.

I have definitely not ordered anything. No one in my house has ordered anything. It’s a genuine link to DPD and they are not asking for money. I can see the driver on the tracking.

Could this be a scam of some sort? But what would be the scam and how do they have my name, address, phone number and email?

Thanks!

You can just decline the delivery.
If it’s a gift or something legit then in can always be re delivered.
could be the scam where they order something expensive to your house, then someone knocks in the door a couple of hours later and asks for their item that’s been delivered to you by mistake.

Georgeskitchen · 25/10/2022 11:30

I agree it could possibly be a scam. Another one is where the scammer hangs around outside the house pretending to be the householder and takes the parcel. Be careful!!

LiIo · 25/10/2022 12:04

The tracking link says it requires id to accept which makes me a bit more concerned

Is it definitely coming to your address? I've had it before when someone has clearly mistyped their number and put mine down, it was being delivered to the other end of the country! You can always ask the driver what it is and refuse delivery if you need to.

Lisagreen12 · 25/10/2022 12:17

Does it have your name on it

CrotchetyQuaver · 25/10/2022 12:19

It could be a scam
Or it could be as simple as someone typed their phone number incorrectly on the order. I'd wait and see what happens, but wouldn't put myself out by waiting in

LiIo · 25/10/2022 12:25

@Midnights @CrotchetyQuaver @Lisagreen12 Yup. It has my name, phone number, address and email.

Arriving in approximately 45 minutes…

I am at work but someone else is in. They are not particularly reliable but I’m hoping they answer!

Have you bought anything that you get a free gift with after a certain time period,? eg my last phone I claimed a free chromebook which came after 60 days. Just seems odd that they would have your mobile no and email address otherwise.

Titsflyingsouth · 25/10/2022 12:30

I think this is a scam. I think my colleague got something very similar. Don't click any links.

LiIo · 25/10/2022 12:32

@Titsflyingsouth I had a brief stint in financial crime about 3 years ago and I used to have an online business. I’m very familiar with a lot of scams but this has me stumped. They are genuine links, to legitimate companies.

@Roserunner Nope. Last thing I ordered from Curry’s was a woodworking router 3 months ago.

Somebody might be sending you a gift.

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 25/10/2022 12:34

I've had numerous emails from Curry's (apparently) over the last week - I think to do with a delivery and also a prize or something but I haven't opened them as I am aware I have not bought anything from them for about 3 years. I just delete the emails. Pretty sure yours is a scam too, OP.

LiIo · 25/10/2022 12:35

@Arayes yeah, I’ve asked people. But very few people know about this email address. It’s not my main email and not one friends would use.

Ooh a live thread. We need a diagram OP!

Lockheart · 25/10/2022 12:38

Why don't you just call Currys customer service with the order number and ask?

LiIo · 25/10/2022 12:38

@mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork Yeah, I know what you mean. I get those scam emails saying I’ve won a free gift card or something. Those are phishing emails looking for money for “delivery fees” or your data etc.

This is not that. These are genuine links. I use DPD a lot and it is their website. I’ve entered the tracking number into their home page. I can see the driver moving on the map.

Oo that's more intriguing then if all the details are correct!!

I'd think perhaps Curry's has made a mistake and dispatched something to you that someone else is expecting?

LiIo · 25/10/2022 12:40

@Lockheart I am meant to be working 😂

On a webchat with Curry’s now

BrieAndChilli · 25/10/2022 12:44

could someone else in your house have ordered something?

LiIo · 25/10/2022 12:44

@BrieAndChilli Nope. I’ve asked everyone in the house.

Intresting to see what it is

BadGranny · 25/10/2022 12:45

Any chance you ordered something ages ago which wasn’t then in stock?

DuckWithOneWing · 25/10/2022 12:46

There is a scam where someone orders something, it's delivered, then in a few hours the scammer knocks on your door pretending to be the parcel company and tries to get the parcel off you. This means that as far as the company (in this case Currys) sees the parcel was delivered to you but you don't have it. So if it is delivered don't hand it over to anyone who comes to collect it!!!!
