The inevitable return of Mornington Crescent

1000 replies

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/10/2022 18:10

As winter approaches and the nights draw in, one’s thoughts naturally turn to wholesome, homely entertainment. Instead, though, I invite experienced players and novices alike to join me in a game of Mornington Crescent.

To keep the pace gentle, I’ll begin with an inverse Lepton to

Seven Sisters

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 05/01/2023 08:53

I think you’ll appreciate this one

Seven Sisters

HazelBite · 05/01/2023 10:19

I hesitate to challenge you on this but surely the Victoria rules would suggest Pimlico would be more appropriate?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 05/01/2023 16:04

You’re correct, HazelBite, in that it would have been straight to Pimlico in even-numbered months but, as it’s still January, the rules demand that we go via Seven Sisters. Anyway, we may now advance to

Balham

South of the river was first permitted in the game of 1922, which was kept a secret in case the then Prime Minister wanted a Welsh version of the game of games.

Tooting Bec

TragicMuse · 06/01/2023 18:06

Peckham Rye surely?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 07/01/2023 12:17

Naturally and inevitably, and then on to

Golders Green

OP posts:
HazelBite · 07/01/2023 13:47

I'm watching football at the moment, so Golders Green leads me inevitably to Tottenham Hale

LlynTegid · 07/01/2023 13:48

And then to Blackhorse Road where the next move could involve the London Overground rule if wished.

DuckonaBike · 08/01/2023 20:49

Fantastic Llyn, so it could. Splendid opportunity!

Gospel Oak

LlynTegid · 09/01/2023 09:46

I'll then move to Brondesbury Park a move not played for a very long time. Caused a dispute in 1998 though.

HazelBite · 09/01/2023 13:11

I think to get "back on track" I can only offer Farringdon

DuckonaBike · 09/01/2023 19:57

Let’s keep things uncontroversial with Aldgate East

TragicMuse · 10/01/2023 19:50

Uncontroversial? Uncontroversial?

Russell Square. And we'll say no more about it.

LlynTegid · 11/01/2023 07:04

Time I think to move towards the outer zones and so Turnpike Lane it is.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 11/01/2023 09:26

If we’re aiming for the outer reaches, let’s head toot sweet for

Balham

OP posts:
Phos · 11/01/2023 09:33

Even after reading the wikipedia article on this, I have no idea what's going on.

HazelBite · 11/01/2023 14:54

Outer reaches is it, then may I suggest Chorleywood
@ Phos yours is not to reason why, just go with the "flow"

LlynTegid · 11/01/2023 15:15

Further out to Chalfont and Latimer

@Phos the game of games is the one game you will never find detailed on Wikipedia. At least correctly, as was agreed not to do so after the great contretemps of 2014.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 11/01/2023 15:49

Better not to discuss the great contretemps of 2014, LlynTegid, because so many people are still traumatised by it. The Colonel intends to tell all in his forthcoming, no holds barred autobiography, provided he can get the injunctions lifted. Until then

Charing Cross

OP posts:
DuckonaBike · 11/01/2023 20:14

Please, do not mention the great contretemps of 2014 <shudders>. And is there any truth in the rumour that the latest controversial royal biography contains a reference to the game of games? I would read it to find out, but I don’t want to.

Meanwhile, Battersea Power Station

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 11/01/2023 22:00

I have not read that controversial royal tome, DuckOnABike, and will not be doing so - too many books, too little time - but it occurs to me that it sometimes happens that a failure to master the nuances of the game of games will lead to familial rifts and estrangements. I can say no more than that.

King’s Cross

OP posts:
LlynTegid · 12/01/2023 07:23

No member of the Royal Family has been known to play the game of games, though I can imagine that Princess Margaret has she partaken would have been a good player.

I think the next move should be west, and Royal Oak seems appropriate.

TragicMuse · 12/01/2023 14:09

As I spent a year in its environs...Dalston Kingsland.

Yes, I am playing fast and loose with the overland rule, but that the kind of dame I am.

HazelBite · 12/01/2023 19:14

Under the Overland rules I am steering this back by way of The Metropolitan line so I give you Preston Road

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/01/2023 20:37

I’m in a magnanimous mood, thanks to one, two or three of the Colonel’s legendary Sidecars, so will overlook that illegality and move us swiftly on to

West Hampstead
