The inevitable return of Mornington Crescent

As winter approaches and the nights draw in, one’s thoughts naturally turn to wholesome, homely entertainment. Instead, though, I invite experienced players and novices alike to join me in a game of Mornington Crescent.

To keep the pace gentle, I’ll begin with an inverse Lepton to

No, no, no. In a game of this length and complexity, we risk falling into Nidd on Monday morning if we do not go south of the mighty river at least once (naysayers are invited to study the Amalgamated Compendium of the Consolidated Rules, volume XXIV, appendix 5, codicil D).

Thank goodness for your forensic knowledge of the rules Maud. Nidd on a Monday morning risks us hitting the glums and it can take DAYS to get out of a double bind such as that.

Pince-nez jauntily perched, Battersea Power Station.

I have always said that time at the MC summer schools is never wasted; the all night sessions on interpretation of the rules (many of them led by the indefatigable Colonel) always bring fresh insights.

We have been south of the river so can return back north and with the use again of the London Overground rule end up at Hoxton. A bit trendy but hopefully the lack of DMs and tattoos will not be visible in darkness.

DuckonaBike · 05/12/2022 18:55

Under cover of darkness, I move to the safe suburbia of Penge West.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 05/12/2022 19:41

Lack of DMs and tattoos? Speak for yourself, LlynTegid! I flatter myself that they are the perfect accessories for my customary Dior ball gown and duffle coat.

I'm not sure if there is a fruit and veg stall, but go off to Shepherds Bush Market to find out.

DuckonaBike · 06/12/2022 21:01

Helpful move, Llyn, enabling me to make a simple transverse to Holborn.

TragicMuse · 07/12/2022 18:56

I think a trip to the pleasure gardens would be nice. Vauxhall.

LlynTegid · 07/12/2022 18:59

Interesting move, so let us visit Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park Corner.

LlareggubTripAdviser · 07/12/2022 20:58

...and straight down the line to Knightsbridge if your pockets are full ... Brompton road...

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 07/12/2022 21:34

Which naturally leads us to

Peckham Rye

Another time to play the London Overground rule and go to Willesden Junction.

HazelBite · 08/12/2022 17:15

I see what you did there!
So therefore I can add Carpenders Park

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 08/12/2022 17:39

What?! Really?! Time to demonstrate a little decorum here, with a stately Demi-shuffle to

Streatham Hill

DuckonaBike · 08/12/2022 19:46

Nicely done, Maud.

Imperial Wharf

LlynTegid · 09/12/2022 07:07

A short move to West Brompton.

TragicMuse · 09/12/2022 20:08

Oh, it's Friday night and that means Oxford Circus

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/12/2022 00:56

Life (as the old song goes) begins at Oxford Circus, but it carries on at

Charing Cross

OP posts:
LlynTegid · 10/12/2022 08:21

And if you are in need of fresh air and a walk, continues at Embankment

HazelBite · 10/12/2022 10:17

I can only add Chancery Lane (the Lord Chief Justice would approve I think)

I was born in Charing Cross - the hospital, not the station.

I believe judicious use of the overground means Upper Holloway is a legitimate move.

LlynTegid · 11/12/2022 09:12

I will use the interchange rule to walk to Archway and then move to Highgate

DuckonaBike · 11/12/2022 14:28

Nicely done, Llyn.

Gospel Oak

TragicMuse · 11/12/2022 16:00

Kensal Rise.

Nuff said.
