The inevitable return of Mornington Crescent

1000 replies

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/10/2022 18:10

As winter approaches and the nights draw in, one’s thoughts naturally turn to wholesome, homely entertainment. Instead, though, I invite experienced players and novices alike to join me in a game of Mornington Crescent.

To keep the pace gentle, I’ll begin with an inverse Lepton to

Seven Sisters

Which leads us inexorably to

Piccadilly Circus

OP posts:
squarepegleg · 25/10/2022 13:51

I didn't see that coming. I'm consulting the Heimar adjustment (2001) and can see it's allowed. Therefore:

Colindale

FatOaf · 25/10/2022 13:53

Picadilly Circus again? Within fewer than 10 moves? Breach of both Bakerloo Declarations, surely?

Who adjudicates when the chair is also a player?

GirlInTheDryShirt · 25/10/2022 14:24

The Bakerloo declarations are void during partial or total solar eclipses, @FatOaf , at least in professional play. Although, to be fair, a quick thumb through the Almanac reveals that the participants in the semifinals of the last seven years seemed to have overlooked this. Nonetheless, let us stick to the rules. I think there's a scalene opposition in the makings, so I'll try and head us that way with Marylebone.

Karatema · 25/10/2022 14:38

Novice here but I'm pretty sure the next move would be
Maida Vale

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 25/10/2022 14:42

Oh, pardon me. I was going to blame a combination of amnesia, the loss of my second-best pince-nez and an unusually generous pre-prandial sherry, but GirlInTheDryShirt has pointed out that the partial eclipse lets me off the hook. Phew.

As I feel emboldened

London City Airport

OP posts:
squarepegleg · 25/10/2022 15:33

I presume this means the fourtmya rules are now void? If I'm correct then this discounts the backwards shift I was going to play.

Bit of a head scratcher but I'm off to

Golders Green

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 25/10/2022 15:37

Such verve!

RhubarbFairy · 25/10/2022 16:13

Oh lovely. That frees me up to do a south shuffle to East Putney.

Hexenjagd · 25/10/2022 17:37

Dagenham Heathway

(due to the accessibility issues at adjacent stations obvs)

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 25/10/2022 17:42

Based on Timkins's Accessibility and Interchange protocol 2nd Ed. I am going for
Canning Town

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 25/10/2022 18:08

That’s all very well, but we can’t postpone any longer the mandatory triple jetée to

South Kenton

OP posts:
TragicMuse · 25/10/2022 18:16

Dalston junction

I had to switch to step-free mode

FatOaf · 25/10/2022 21:52

Ooh, we're on my old stomping ground now.

Stamford Hill

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 25/10/2022 22:14

Whence we may essay a transectional loop to

Perivale

OP posts:
HazelBite · 25/10/2022 22:53

May I insert a wild card at this juncture?
Croxley
(I think 1987 Metropolitan sanctions apply here)

RhubarbFairy · 25/10/2022 23:10

Oh. That invalidates my wild card you absolute rotter.

I am now only permitted to move to Goldhawk Road

GirlInTheDryShirt · 25/10/2022 23:33

I had to step away to attend to other matters, but I see that in my absence all hell has broken loose. A triple jetee together with the invocation of the 1987 Metropolitan sanctions, on the fourth Tuesday of the month at that? Because we're still within 30 days of Michaelmas, I think one or the other might be allowed, but surely not both, so I'm not sure that @HazelBite's wildcard is altogether permissible, although I'll defer to the chair. Either way, I think that a swift play of an Overground station might return some order to this evening's proceedings, so I'll chance a move to Wanstead Park.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 25/10/2022 23:46

Here, as in so many areas of life, I feel we should defer to the late Queen Mother and her maxim of “never complain, never explain”. (She, of course, was a skilful proponent of the game of games). GirlInTheDryShirt has got us back on track (pun very much intended) and I shall advance to

Beckenham Junction.

TragicMuse · 26/10/2022 11:39

Ohhhhh Purley

TragicMuse · 26/10/2022 11:41

Sorry, a bit obvious, I know. I had a difficult night pondering the Von Westinghaus problem. But I think I've got there.

RhubarbFairy · 26/10/2022 13:37

I've had the valet bring me the rule book from our summer house so that I could check the legality of this move. According to Rule 14, clause 2, sub-clause 3.6a (amended July 1976); I am able to deploy a Swindonian Swerve and move briskly to Mill Hill Broadway

AutumnsCrow · 26/10/2022 14:40

Our summer house is looking an absolute shambles, @RhubarbFairy, after the St Crispin's Day carnage. Well, you know how it is.

I've pondered long and hard on a move that will satisfy both purists and experimentalists and I think that I'm leaning towards the Kibblesworth Accords of 1863, which were remarkably prescient in their way.

Farringdon

FatOaf · 26/10/2022 16:06

To the best of my knowledge, the Beaverbrook udertaking was never removed form the authorised codicil. (All the apocryphal codicils have, of course, been rooted out.) Therefore, I believe this is the appropriate next move:

Fleet Street

FatOaf · 26/10/2022 16:06
