Help me find this piece of classical music!

Stab in the dark here, I know I've seen the name of this on a thread before, but I am searching for the piece of classical music that has violins imitating bird song... like a chirruping and ascending, in a cadence, almost clashing at times...

That's the best description I can do this evening, and I did bloody gcse music, should know better!

It's not the lark ascending or goldfinch, or vivaldi's spring I don't think, I am desperate to know what it's called!!! Can't bloody find it anywhere!

Help!

Lark ascending! It's one of my absolute favourites x

foxcote90 · 21/10/2022 21:20

Sorry just read the bottom where you said it's not that 🙈

The Aviary from the Carnival of the Animals? Lots of flute, but strings too.

amp.classicfm.com/discover-music/classical-music-inspired-by-birdsong/

is it in this compilation?

geraniumthefirst · 21/10/2022 21:27

Nope none of those! And I've literally been trawling through the classic fm songs inspired by birdsong!

Ugh, what is it?? It's driving me mad! It has more of a modern feel and sounds like it's trying to imitate the dawn chorus!!

Messiaen? Oiseaux exotiques!

Riverlee · 21/10/2022 21:50

My first thought was Carnival of the Animals.

Another thought was an old recording of a cellist (?) playing and a real nightingale responding to it.

Marcipex · 21/10/2022 21:54

It’s not the bumblebee one is it? If you have tried all the bird options.

lingle · 21/10/2022 21:56

What o "ascending in a cadence mean"?

I thought cadences were where the music reached a pause? And they are nothing like chirrupping.

geraniumthefirst · 21/10/2022 22:11

Ok maybe doing scales is a better description. As I said, it's been a while since I needed to describe music!

None of those so far... I really want to know what this piece is called!!!

Casals' song of the birds?

Aurora791 · 21/10/2022 22:16

Messiaen quartet for the end of time?

PermanentTemporary · 21/10/2022 22:16

Do you remember the situation when you heard it - could it be an advert or a TV programme?

bigbeautifulmonster · 21/10/2022 22:16

You sure it's birds and not something like insects?

All I have in my mind from your description is the night scene in Smetana's 'Moldau'.

geraniumthefirst · 21/10/2022 22:19

Was reminded of it on here a few weeks ago. And listened to it, forgot to write down the name and can't go through YouTube history to find it, thanks to small child watching utter crap.

Saw something on fb earlier and it was from a tiktok. Can't find it now, and I am not a tiktok user.

Literally is violins mimicking birds, sorry, that's such a shit description!

Is it the Bach double violin concerto slow movement? I love how they weave in and out of each other

geraniumthefirst · 21/10/2022 22:20

No def birds, sounds like they when they are all in a tree, singing together, but not in harmony! If that makes sense.

Beethoven’s sixth - Pastoral Symphony? Definitely has the birdsong.

Perpetual mobile

Oops autocorrt. Perpetuum Mobile - Penguin Cafe Orchestra

ReedOfFate · 21/10/2022 22:25

Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony?

Was it definitely strings? Handel has the cuckoo & the nightingale but I think that is mostly organ!

geraniumthefirst · 21/10/2022 22:29

Oooh found the link where I heard it!!!
