Has anyone seen this at the Barbican yet? I’m taking my seven year old daughter in January as a birthday treat and I’m really excited about it.

I'm taking 8 year old DC on Thursday. Wasn't too expensive as I booked when it first became available. Very excited now hearing the above. Was a bit worried it's a late night /long show and whether DC will stay engaged but if it's really good we should be fine. I'll report back.

Yes, please do report back. Enjoy the show!

Does anyone here know of any websites selling good quality and affordable Totoro merchandise, such as socks, tote bags etc?

A few things - including a nice novel - available through Waterstones at the moment. Not that affordable (they are selling the daft £13 pencils the RSC are) but nice for gifts!

Gutted I only just found out about it. My (only just!) 11 year old is Totoro mad and couldn't think of what he might want for a birthday present, this would have been perfect.

Yikes on ticket prices. I hope they tour.

We’re going on the 22nd December and cannot wait!

TheFormidableMrsC · 24/10/2022 01:19

My adult DD has booked tickets to take her younger brother (he's 11). He doesn't know, it's a surprise at Xmas. She's a good girl 🙂

VenusClapTrap · 24/10/2022 02:00

We’re going Christmas week. Bought the tickets as soon as they came out because we are huge Ghibli fans here. Thrilled the reviews are so good and can’t wait to go!

Oh, that sounds amazing! I have a Totoro duvet cover!
Looks like the show is completely sold out now.

@WolverineBlueyy , thanks for the tip re: Waterstones.

@ConfessionsInTheMoonlight , I’ve read that it’s nearly three hours long.

About 2hr 45 with a 20min interval.. doesn't feel that long when you are watching though ☺️

ChakaKhanfan · 24/10/2022 14:47

We are going 23rd December, our children don’t know yet, we are members so booked July time, husband paid so not sure how much it was. It’s a very special treat

Minkyscamp · 24/10/2022 14:54

We went on Wednesday of last week and absolutely loved it. It was such a magical, mesmerising production. Definitely go - you won't be disappointed!

colourmebladd · 24/10/2022 15:02

There is some stuff to buy on the Barbican website shop. Also eBay!

IceandIndigo · 24/10/2022 16:28

We went on Saturday, it was incredible! Took my 3-year and was unsure how he would cope sitting for nearly 3 hours, but he was enthralled. It probably helps that he's seen the movie a lot of times. The live music was also a highlight.

Iwantacampervan · 24/10/2022 17:21

I read on the information from the Barbican that the running time is approx 2 hours 45 including interval. We're going to the Matinee on 5th November and I'm looking forward to it (booked tickets as soon as they went on sale).

Got it on Wish. Came with a matching sheet, too, full bed set… probably not official merchandise! Looks like it’s no longer available, but they do have lots of other Totoro merch on there… including the very excellent ‘cat bus’ T-shirt that my DD proudly owns!

EmmatheStageRat · 29/10/2022 13:16

Posting from The Barbican, waiting for the doors to open for the 2pm matinee! My DD and I have just done a backstage Touch Tour and I think it was one of the best experiences of her life so far! She got to hug medium-sized Totoro! I’ve already parted with £55 for a hoodie…

starlingsintheslipstream · 29/10/2022 16:57

💜 what a great experience for her. I hope the show lived up to expectations. We loved it.

EmmatheStageRat · 29/10/2022 18:50

@starlingsintheslipstream , thanks, it was a wonderful experience for both of us. I’m trying not to include any spoilers here but we got to examine close up all the puppets, plus the costumes, the house and the tuk-tuk. The soot sprites were my favourite.

The show was breathtaking; the choreography was jaw dropping; the music was exquisite; and the performances were astounding. If only there were tickets left, we’d love to go again. I’m envious now of everyone who still has the anticipation of watching it.
