Re yesterday's query about running out of words..
If wordle relies on never repeating a word, if you have a great memory (or a written archive of solutions) it will get Increasingly easy as you know all the words that it CAN'T be. So in a way its better that a word CAN be repeated

If you reused PINEY as a starter word last night you could have got INEPT in two - did you @DahliaMacNamara? Grin

No, but it took me until the next morning to realise that I'd subconsciously used it when I went with OPINE as an opener.

I've now got an image of a dedicated wordler scouring their massive ledger of used words each day 🤣
Unlike most of us who clearly only remember the first word that lost us our streak 😡 and forget today's word as soon as completed!

LosingTheWill2022 · 03/11/2022 10:34

Going back to piney. Is the spelling with an e a US thing or a gradual change in spelling? I was taught (a very long time ago) that when the root of a word ended in e, you left it out when turning it into an adverb e.g. ice icy and lace lacy stripe stripy etc. So I would spell piney "piny" . But that doesn't seem to be universal anymore. Smiley is definitely the usual spelling now 🤔

LosingTheWill2022 · 03/11/2022 10:35

adjective !!! not adverb

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 03/11/2022 11:04

I don't recognise 'piney' or 'piny' as an adjective at all although I know what you mean about the 'y' ending for words like 'ice' and 'icy', Losing. I think someone here was saying it's a descriptive word in place-names in the US. Piney something or other?!

I have been putting 'piney' in a sentence and it sounds very odd.

If we get a real tree at Christmas, I hope it lasts and stays fresh for the season. I love sniffing the air when it's fresh and piney; it's so christmassy 😅

Don't be telling me that 'christmassy' isn't a proper adjective!!

LosingTheWill2022 · 03/11/2022 11:18

Don't be telling me that 'christmassy' isn't a proper adjective!! I wouldn't dare Fuzzy Christmassy is definitely in my vocabulary whether it's in the dictionary or not.
My guess before piney was winey which I am equally affronted is an acceptable wordle word. It needs an h at the very least.
I can't wait for Christmas when I can wish that all your scents may be piney scents 😂

Sunbird24 · 03/11/2022 11:21

@LosingTheWill2022 i think you can reasonably have winey as an adjective for being like wine, but I don’t really like it

I'll grudgingly accept that @Sunbird24

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 03/11/2022 11:27

Agree on being affronted by 'winey'!

Unfortunately Losing, when I tried having a real tree one year, it went droopy and died on me and the air was far from 'piney' 😁 * *Sadly...

NoNameNowAgain · 03/11/2022 11:29

May your scents be piney, your hot punch winey and all your Christmases be white!
Well done everyone today!

JaneJeffer · 03/11/2022 12:51

Grin I was looking at it thinking is PINCY a word before I realised I had an E left (the letter not the drug)

To guarantee a piney Christmas Fuzzy

I have these as we have a fake Christmas tree and the first year we got it, it smelt really plasticky. Would defo recommend.

To me piney is like whiney. The dog pined for his owner and there was piney

BruceAndNosh · 03/11/2022 14:01

I considered HINEY but apparently it's spelt Heinie

Heinie? Is that a Fanny?
