Trial today by Video link. Guilty. Sentencing in November

OP posts:

She wasn't driving dangerously. She pleaded guilty to death by careless driving.

Karmakamelion · 20/10/2022 14:34

She should be ashamed that she killed a child. The rest is just words. There hasn't been nearly enough remorse shown. Disgusting human being

christmas2022 · 20/10/2022 14:34

What's the likely punishment

Maytodecember · 20/10/2022 14:36

She should have pleaded guilty in the first instance and not run away like a coward. That poor family have been to hell as well as losing their son. Hope she gets a heafty prison sentence ( tho I doubt she will)

Yiayoula · 20/10/2022 14:36

Let’s hope this brings some comfort to Harry’s parents . 💐

Yiayoula · 20/10/2022 14:38

Agree 100%.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 20/10/2022 14:40

I have a feeling she isn't going to get much of a punishment as she will just stay in the US and state diplomatic immunity guff. It is horrendous what she has put the poor family through.

CryingInTents · 20/10/2022 14:40

But she won’t serve any time will she? Or will there even be any kind of enforceable punishment? Not like she’s going to come over here and accept it anyway

HappyHamsters · 20/10/2022 14:42

Nothing will happen. She is a coward and should have admitted this years ago instead of torturing his poor family.

RunningFromInsanity · 20/10/2022 14:46

I bet the majority of people if they were told by their lawyers and embassy that they could legally leave the country and return home, or stay and be imprisoned in a foreign prison away from their young children, would have left.

She stayed, spoke to the Police and was then legally allowed to leave the country.
Don’t pretend you would all have stayed if given the decision.

It wasn’t dangerous driving. It was careless. She made a mistake that hundreds of people have done and unfortunately the outcome was worst case scenario.

Lockheart · 20/10/2022 14:50

She should be ashamed that she killed a child.

A 19-year old is not a child. What she did is bad enough, there's no need to emote and whip it up further.

SpringCalling · 20/10/2022 14:58

The judge has required her to attend in person for the sentencing. Lets see if she does ... the family are saying they do not want to see her separated from her children as the children are innocent in this. Which again throws a huge spotlight on the divide between the woman who ran and did not take responsibility, and the family left devastated but able to show humanity.

SirChenjins · 20/10/2022 15:02

Excellent - she's finally admitted her guilt. She's put this family through hell on top of hell, now it's time for some form of retribution.

KonTikki · 20/10/2022 15:06

Yes she did run and evade responsibility. But this was the time of Trump and extreme right wing Republicanism. As the wife of a serving US military personnel, I believe her departure from the UK was expedited by US authorities, she was offered / advised of a ride home and took it.
Any sentence passed will most likely be served in the US, custody or otherwise.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 20/10/2022 15:08

Scummy, dirty coward.

Pretty much was

Leave now and we provide advice /protect you
Or stay and work it all out yourself.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 20/10/2022 15:15

I am glad she has finally had the decency to do this.

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 20/10/2022 15:18

I hope his family find peace, what a horrific ordeal

YerAWizardHarry · 20/10/2022 15:19

If it’s “only” careless driving she’s unlikely to even get a custodial sentence…

This. I know I would have run. 100% no doubt in my mind. I'm willing to bet most people would.

Now you might think you would never drive carelessly, that's another matter. But the running, don't kid yourself.

SirChenjins · 20/10/2022 15:34

I’m sure that the vast majority of people who commit crimes would run if they had the option. Unfortunately for them and fortunately for their victims, the vast majority don’t have some diplomatic immunity excuse to hide behind. My sympathy for AS is zero.

tuttifruit · 20/10/2022 15:40

She is a coward and the way she's handled it all absolutely disgusts me

This. My DM and another woman were killed by a 'careless' driving pensioner. He also badly injured two others. He got a fine.

Of course people would.
Including all the posters on this thread who think she is a disgrace to have ‘run away’ - aka exercise her rights to go back to the US in a totally legal way.

Whether it’s fair on the victim is a different issue.

Piffle11 · 20/10/2022 15:48

I think all Harry's family ever wanted was for her to put her hand up, admit what she did, and show remorse. They have never appeared vengeful, and I honestly believe that it had she admitted guilt in the first instance, that would have given them some closure and they would have probably asked for leniency in her sentencing.

She has dragged this on for years, prolonging their suffering.
