I’m sure that the vast majority of people who commit crimes would run if they had the option. Unfortunately for them and fortunately for their victims, the vast majority don’t have some diplomatic immunity excuse to hide behind. My sympathy for AS is zero.

I may have run in sheer panic, but then very quickly, after seeing the complete devastation from the family and having to live with my own guilt, I would have agreed to cooperate with UK police and taken my punishment. She has clung to diplomatic immunity, showing complete disregard to the justice the family need in order to move on. When they should have been grieving, they've had to travel the world trying to get justice. She has made it as difficult as it could possibly be and what a dreadful example she has set for her children about taking responsibility.

Yeah, this.

I hope this brings some comfort to his family.

About bloody time.

She’ll have been advised not too. Not so much to protect her, but to protect the culture of diplomatic immunity.

If the US encouraged her to waive her immunity it creates a precedence. Then what do you do when, for example, Singapore want you to return a staff member to face trial for committing a homosexual act.

She should be ashamed that she killed a child.

A 19-year old is not a child. What she did is bad enough, there's no need to emote and whip it up further.

Stupid post.

He is his parents child.

TellySavalashairbrush · 20/10/2022 16:22

Some of the responses on here are appalling. Whether it was dangerous or careless driving, this bloody woman took the life of someone's son and then gave the family the run around for years while they tried to get some kind of justice.

As for the comment that he was 19, so not a child. Oh please. Harry was just entering adulthood, just starting his life. I am happy that she is finally having to answer for what she has done for the family's sake.

Stupid post.

He is his parents child.

Everyone is their parents child.

Doesn't make a 55 year-old man a child, for example.

mamabear715 · 20/10/2022 17:15

About damn time. Poor lad, what she has put his parents through.
(I take it I'm ok to call him a lad, ffs?)

SirChenjins · 20/10/2022 17:17

DH is 59, his mum is 91 - he is still her child. If he was killed in a car crash and the killer ran off hiding in the same way AS did my MIL would be utterly devastated. It doesn’t matter what age your children are as you well know if you have children, esp adult ones.

54isanopendoor · 20/10/2022 17:25

Piffle11 · 20/10/2022 15:48

I think all Harry's family ever wanted was for her to put her hand up, admit what she did, and show remorse. They have never appeared vengeful, and I honestly believe that it had she admitted guilt in the first instance, that would have given them some closure and they would have probably asked for leniency in her sentencing.

She has dragged this on for years, prolonging their suffering.

Quite so.

Clearly Anne Sacoolas didn't mean to kill Harry Dunn. But, she did.
A lad just beginning his life, not even out of his teens.
She then took advice & left the country, hiding behind diplomatic immunity.
It has taken until now to finally admit her guilt.
His parents & wider family have been through hell.
Pleading with presidents, pleading on the news.
All this AS could have spared them.
She chose not to do so. That is unforgivable. Especially as she cites her children as the reason she's behaved this way. Yes, her poor children. But poor Harry too.

I hope that today's judgement will bring Harry's parents some relief.
It may enable them to move forward & begin to grieve him.

Oh, thats ok then. I’m sure his parents wont be as sad now you've pointed that out.

Yeah he's HER child, but not to be described as "a child" by the general public. Jesus wept.

I bet the majority of people if they were told by their lawyers and embassy that they could legally leave the country and return home, or stay and be imprisoned in a foreign prison away from their young children, would have left.

She stayed, spoke to the Police and was then legally allowed to leave the country.
Don’t pretend you would all have stayed if given the decision.

It wasn’t dangerous driving. It was careless. She made a mistake that hundreds of people have done and unfortunately the outcome was worst case scenario.

Sad but this is so true.

SpentDandelion · 20/10/2022 17:51

Their son would still be here if it wasn't for her incompetence, and l cannot understand the complacency on here. It would be very different if it were your son or daughter. She is an absolute disgrace and l respect the dignified manner Harry's family have dealt with this, it's utterly cruel what they're 've had to go through, to get justice for their son.

The general public have done nothing of the sort. A 19 year old - someone’s child, who had their whole life ahead of them just as AS’s children do, was killed by an adult who ran off and hid - save your weeping Jesuses for that.

This is such a pointless argument in light of the real issue at hand. Someone on this thread literally referred to him as a child, and the person who corrected them got jumped on and called 'stupid'. A 19 year old is not a child, simple as. Emotive sound-bites like that just unneccesarily whips up hysteria in an already upsetting situation.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 20/10/2022 18:10

You go right on focusing on the technicality of the age at which a child stops being a child if that helps you. Meanwhile, AS remains a lowlife piece of shit who killed someone’s child and then ran off.

I don’t think people should be imprisoned for accidents, it could happen to anyone, even if it causes a death, sometimes and accident is just that.

antipodeancanary · 20/10/2022 18:38

AS would have been strongly encouraged (ie forced) to behave exactly as she has done. You don't get to just waive diplomatic immunity because you want to. As a poster upthread has stated the US absolutely would not encourage this, it sets a dangerous precedent from their point of view.

They should be imprisoned for making a family fight for justice when they knew fine well what they’d done.

What a magnificent contribution to this thread

What a uphill struggle of the family have had to go through Flowers

She may get away with a lighter sentence but I personally doubt it’s worth of damage to her reputation for the rest of her life

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 20/10/2022 18:48

Makes one wonder if she'd have been better off not fucking off in the first place, in terms of the negative consequences on her life.
