I predict Sunak, Mordaunt, Braverman and Johnson going for it.

Sorry if this is a silly question but can Johnson go for it?

Boulezvous · 20/10/2022 14:00

I reckon Mordaunt v Sunak

I think so.

#TeamLettuce. It’s got the brains and the charisma, plus you can put it into salads, sandwiches and wraps. It’s the best choice available to the Tories IMO.

MeowMeowPowerRangers · 20/10/2022 14:02

Penny.

Sunak has to much dirt to carry them through a GE.

Greenshake · 20/10/2022 14:02

If only Rory Stewart was still a Tory……

I don't think labour will let this go lightly though, they'll do everything they can for a general election.

Greenshake · 20/10/2022 14:04

I would support a GE in the early part of next year, but I think right now that would be way too chaotic. We just need someone to steady the ship for a few months first.

DH said he'd heard someone on the radio say Sunak - Hunt as the 'dream team' and next week will be spent debating PM vs Chancellor. In which case the MPs are pushing the party back to the centre and preparing for the next election.

Isn't it all both horrific and fascinating.

MissPoldark · 20/10/2022 14:07

Johnson? He’s raking it in doing after dinner speaking jobs. No incentive for him to return at all.

Hbh17 · 20/10/2022 14:08

Boris should never have gone in the first place, but I don't think the party will be prepared to admit they were wrong & bring him back.
Sunak, with Hunt staying at No 11, seems the obvious solution.

I think this is more about vindication and ego than money for him

Braverman, no way.

RoachTheHorse · 20/10/2022 14:09

Sunak as PM with Hunt as Chancellor seems the least worse option then, as a PP said, GE early in 2023

MissPoldark · 20/10/2022 15:21

Telegraph reporting that Johnson expected to run for PM!
surprised, thought he would have decided it was too much like hard work for him

miceonabranch · 20/10/2022 15:24

Times reporting that Johnson will run 🤦‍♀️

MissPoldark · 20/10/2022 15:24

You know why though….if a GE is to be called he’s probably the only one who can offer the Tories a chance of winning

miceonabranch · 20/10/2022 15:25

He's their useful idiot 🙄

CaptainBarbosa · 20/10/2022 15:29

Sunak with Hunt in No11 I think it will be.

Makes sense, they will stabilise the ship, and bring the conservatives back to the centre ground ready for a GE.

NotDonna · 20/10/2022 15:30

There’s been some chat about Sunak as PM but Mordant as deputy. What’s that about?

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/10/2022 15:32

Whoever, it’s a bloody travesty: GE needed.

Imnotswallowingthat · 20/10/2022 15:34

In some ways BoJo is actually the sensible choice for the Tories to make for their own sake. His return would get rid of the "no mandate to govern" accusations as they could assert that he does have a mandate from the electorate having won the last GE. Would certainly weaken Labour's case for a GE to be called now.

Greenshake · 20/10/2022 15:35

I would not be in favour of a general election until spring 2023. It will be no more than a mudslinging distraction.

wormshuffled · 20/10/2022 15:38

I vote for Larry

Johnson would have one hell of a brass neck if he runs, considering he was forced to resign only three months ago and was unable to hold together a cabinet.

(And one of the reasons he was forced to resign, Pincher, is still sitting in the Commons as yet uninvestigated.)

He also had one of the lowest public popularity ratings of any prime minister going. Ahem... until this one.

If he does run I can't see him getting very far. There certainly won't be a groundswell of support for him like there was last time. Just a few sad hangers-on.
