I predict Sunak, Mordaunt, Braverman and Johnson going for it.

Boris should never have gone in the first place, but I don't think the party will be prepared to admit they were wrong & bring him back.
Sunak, with Hunt staying at No 11, seems the obvious solution.

You deranged? He was a lying, law breaking, arrogant self-serving arsehole.

I would not be in favour of a general election until spring 2023. It will be no more than a mudslinging distraction.“

Millions will disagree with you.
the last was appointed by approx 160,000 people, the next will be appointed by 357 people. Unacceptable.

Volterra · 20/10/2022 15:43

I think Johnson is the bogeyman to encourage a quick consensus about someone .

Anniefrenchfry · 20/10/2022 15:43

I reckon Boris is coming back with a whole swathe of promises and lessons learned and will then be credited with turning it round.

Yes he was all of those things. But from a political perspective he didn't actually do a great deal wrong in terms of decisions and the economy etc. People seem unable to separate the non-political stuff (partygate etc) from the actual running of the country.

It's too soon, I reckon. It's only been 12 weeks! If there'd been an 18-month or two-year gap I think he could get away with that narrative. But not three months.

This is factually inaccurate the tories were voted in. Don’t you vote? You vote for the party not the prime minister or leader of that party.

Kate3150 · 20/10/2022 15:51

Agree with what you are saying 👍🏻👍🏻

Kate3150 · 20/10/2022 15:52

@Imnotswallowingthat
meant to add your name first lol.
Totally agree with your point 👍🏻

I vote for Larry

It must be embarrassing for the last three 'leaders' that a cat has spent more time in Number 10 then they have collectively!

Greenshake · 20/10/2022 16:49

@MrsSkylerWhite they may well disagree, but I think a GE now would be a nightmare.

antipodeancanary · 20/10/2022 18:54

Not a Tory, but can't see them doing anything other than voting Sunak if he stands. And making sure no other candidate gets 100 nominations. They won't want to leave it to the membership again. He will do what he does, probably without the terrible spectacle associated with the Truss administration. Then, depending on opinion polls he will either contest the next election or if his predicted results are not good enough he will be helped on his way and Boris will be brought back in to contest it

CormoranStrike · 20/10/2022 19:16

Mordaunt and Sunak race off.

I’m not a Tory, but I do feel they are the front contenders. Sunak has the baggage of working with BoJo and being a billionaire - Penny may be a fresh start, but I am not sure she has the backing or experience.

Why? Because Labour would win?

Wheretheskyisblue · 21/10/2022 10:33

Sunak and Johnson will get through to the final 2 then the members will vote for Johnson. We will then get a few months of the tory party imploding, byelections and the economy tanking further until an election.

No, because we need a period of stability in the first instance, not endless hustings, campaigning and distraction. I would support a GE next spring.
