To treat myself to a new dressing gown or not?

I bought my dressing gown around 20 years ago.
It's a plain black fleece one which reaches my ankles and is two sizes too big for me, so I can wrap it nicely and tie it.
Now, I only wear it when I get up on a morning when I stagger out of bed and drink a coffee before getting showered and dressed.
However, it's now showing its age and in my heart I know it should be replaced, but somehow I keep clinging onto it.
I don't want an oodie thing as I had one before and ended up giving it to my daughter as I couldn't do with melting when I wore it, or the hassle of having to get it off over my head.
So, should I go mad and treat myself to a new fleecy friend or just keep wearing my old friend until it falls off my back?
I could make my dogs a new coat each out of my old one, so it wouldn't be wasted.

You have just inspired me and my first result on Safari was --- Sainsburys!

Oh, @OneFrenchEgg , you can't do better than Borg! No faffy zip either.

@Mentalpiece You know you're going to HAVE to get a new Goonie? (I read the other day that that's what some Scots call them & I'm going to adopt it.) I practically live in mine during the winter, on top of clothes to keep me snuggly! If anyone rings the doorbell I shrug it off on the way to the door. ;-)
I only have three.. maybe I should get another..

Definitely a new one - you can always keep your old one as a spare if you're not ready to depart with it.

I’m in the same boat OP, only because the cuffs of my white - what was I thinking 🤦‍♀️- 20/25 yr old dressing gown are persistently grubby.

Definitely get yourself a new one.

Got this one last year, nearly cried at the price even with a code. It's lovely. www.thewhitecompany.com/uk/Hooded-Velour-Robe-/p/HVCRO?swatch=Ash+Rose

That’s the same one that I’ve had 10 years! It’s really lovely and washes well.

@brittanyfairies what a lovely thing for your son to say. That's really warmed my heart! He obviously felt very nurtured by you.

I have 2, one larger than the other, for just in case.
Both warm, fleecy, mid calf, with hoods, for feeding garden birds in the rain, for under £15 from Asda.
Love them both.Don't care if I'm seen putting bins out wearing one; hope that observers feel empathy/jealousy.

Rightsaidmabel · 18/10/2022 19:04

"Don't care", that was supposed to say!

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/10/2022 19:04

Get a new one and gift it to the dogs, they will give it a good few years of love.

Whycanineverever · 18/10/2022 19:08

I bought a Figleaves one in the next sale. It is full length lovely and roomy and super soft.

isthismylifenow · 18/10/2022 19:11

I have 2, on the go and they are as equally bad as each other. The toweling one which I put in after a bath or shower (because admittedly I don't dry myself properly with a normal towel), and then there is the Grey fleece. It was actually my ex's which I bought as a bday present about 20 years ago, ungrateful bugger scoffed at it, so I claimed it. He tried to pack it when he left but I reclaimed as as he had never worn it once.

I have two newer ones as well. But thru just hang there behind the two I do wear, as they just aren't right. One doesn't absorb as well, and the other just fits me right so it's not roomy. I find other excuses for not using them in sure.

I often say if someone had tk pop in while I'm in the state of gown dress, they will soon clear off. It is not pretty!

But they are irreplaceable.

I think you should at least try out a new one though. If nothing else, it will keep the other company.

I have the same problem with slippers as well.

Lawandsawdus · 18/10/2022 19:15

Get a new one but don’t cut up the old one until you are really sure of the replacement.

Stevie6 · 18/10/2022 19:20

I love my dressing gowns and both are from Asda, about £25 each, I wear one everyday at home

Msgrieves · 18/10/2022 19:21

My mam was very particular about dressing gowns, she finally relented and got a new one when her old one was beyond hope, she kept the old one to put round her feet in bed Grin. The "new" one lasted a long time too.
