Do you have hobbies? I don’t really

Perhaps should try and get one or two

Theatre, cinema. Reading (so boring I know). But there's stuff I do that's interesting that isn't a hobby too. I love spending time with friends, I volunteer for a charity important to me, and at one of my kids clubs.

What do you feel is missing?

OhAmBackAgain · 17/10/2022 15:52

horses
boxing
yoga

somethingonthewing · 17/10/2022 15:53

Following! I'd love a new hobby

I made a candle last week and it was a one off but I thoroughly enjoyed it!

GlistersisnotGold · 17/10/2022 16:31

Walking, cycling, gaming, gardening and have just started to restore furniture. I’m also a volunteer gardener, I am retired though so have lots of free time.

I also love watching films and can sew and knit though I haven’t done any sewing or knitting for a while.

@MostTacticalNameChange I have a console but do sometimes play Pokémon go. Gotta catch ‘em all :)

Penpals
Listening to pilots in their planes on my radio scanner (30,000+ in the air!)
Diamond art

shivbo2014 · 17/10/2022 17:41

Running, crochet, my allotment, studying.

Shodan · 17/10/2022 18:01

Karate, singing, crochet, reading, sewing, embroidery, jewellery-making, candle-making, bath bomb-making, woodwork, walking, painting (both art and walls), studying a new language..not all at the same time though.😁

I like trying new things. And I love making things. My first instinct is always can I make that myself? Rather than shall I buy that? A lot of it is how I was brought up- my mum made a lot of our and her own clothes, so I grew up seeing that as normal. If something was broken, we fixed it. My siblings are the same. My sister, for instance, recently made a solid wood worktop for her kitchen. No previous experience, she just thought she'd give it a go (and very well she did it too). And I have just put up curtains I made.

I'm rarely bored 😂

Reading and knitting. A lot of both! Especially just now - I’ve just finished my Nativity set Eeyore.
A handsome fellow - I think so, anyway.

So many! Mainly creative:

watercolour/art in general
crochet
dollhouse refurbishing
doing up rooms around the house (is this a hobby or just adult life?)
singing
Pilates
reading (again is that a hobby or just a human thing?)

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/10/2022 18:13

I don’t know why that pic came up twice!

CormoranStrike · 17/10/2022 18:41

Cycling, dog walking, reading and sewing, assorted other crafts and podcasts.

I genuinely don’t understand people without hobbies. What do you do?

My general thoughts on crochet are “just because you can crochet it doesn’t mean you should” but your wee donkey is the exception to the rule; he is lovely!

Read the internet and watch television Grin. Don't think either really counts.

To be fair, I do have hobbies. But when I wasn't working I could easily spend a whole working week on the internet, so there's plenty there to occupy someone with a job and a household. There are swathes of tv I haven't even touched.

My own hobbies are

choir
karate
bellringing (can recommend, btw)
reading
cryptic crosswords and some other puzzles
for a while I got a bit obsessed with building a massive tree on Ancestry

I pick up a new crafty thing every few months spend loads on new supplies, see another craft and the cycle continues 😂 think I’ve done Lino art, acrylic painting, clay modelling, sewing, cross stitch, watercolour, origami, jewellery making etc. I have a craft room where I have loads of BITS haha!

Me too!
And I love trying new things.

I wouldn't class dog walking, reading other podcasts as "hobbies"

WarblingEttie · 17/10/2022 19:59

That should be reading and podcasts

Goatinthegarden · 17/10/2022 20:24

I have more hobbies than time, one of the reasons DH and I decided not to have children (we use all our spare rooms for hobbies anyway).

DH and I share several outdoor hobbies which take up whole days at the weekend. We like cycling (we go mountain biking and go for long distance rides too), mountain climbing and trail running. I also commute daily by bike and try to squeeze in a few indoor bike rides and HIIT workouts during the week if I can. We do a lot of diy projects and gardening together too.

Indoors, I knit, crochet, do calligraphy and paint. I like dressmaking and embroidery, but don’t do either very often at the moment. I’m learning piano so practice daily. I like cooking so cook most evening meals from scratch and enjoy finding new recipes. I like baking, but that’s kind of fallen by the wayside recently…I ate far too much sourdough in lockdown.

I like reading and a good box set, but almost always fall asleep the minute I sit down and stop moving.

It’s just a shame that work gets in the way of it all.

Really? I class anything I do for fun, not duty, as a hobby.

I also collect many other hobbies - painting, ceramics, stained glass, writing etc! I just thought it was showing off to list them all 😂

Hyvsvaar · 17/10/2022 20:33

Gardening/reading/cooking…have bought some beautiful cross stitch kits and I can’t fucking see what I’m doing
the above is more than enough!

Why on earth not?

bakehimawaytoys · 17/10/2022 21:13

I play the piano. I have a lesson once a week and try to practise for a few minutes every day. It's not easy though with a baby and a toddler! I do find it super relaxing and absorbing when I get time to do it.

ChristmasOnSpeed · 17/10/2022 21:23

@whatausername of course

MagnoliatheMagnificent · 17/10/2022 21:27

Geocaching. It's great fun, lots of variety, doesn't cost much and gets you out and about. A few of us do it in my family and we're quite competitive!
Also have an allotment which is time consuming but also relaxing. Always something new to learn. We have a nice little community up there.
I like gardening, reading, sudoku.
Have bought a couple of diamond art sets but they're still in the packet.. likewise cross stitch! I really like the crocheted post box toppers you see around. I'd love to make one but need to learn to crochet first...

weegiemum · 17/10/2022 21:28

Reading
Knitting
Painting glass and silk
Card making (have a small business making bespoke wedding invitations).
Cooking

I'm disabled so my hobbies are usually sitting down things, but dd2 (18, at FE college and still at home) and I have been learning to cook more together - I do the sitting down chopping, she does the standing up stirring!).
