Filling a pad every hour what shall I do tonight

Have endometriosis normally heavy but all day it’s been constant filling a pad every hour leaked through my pyjamas and stained the bed. The huge clots are massive I have a bed pad but it moves a lot and worried about the rest of my sheets what can I do. I did think a Tena nappy but the shops are shut.

Thank you all for your advice off to sleep now

You poor thing. I've been there and not been able to sleep. Double up on night time pads, always Infinity foam pads are good, sleep on towel and try to rest as much as possible.
Much sure you get enough iron so you're not anaemic.
Go back to GP asked to be referred to a gynaecologist. Good luck.

Nannydoodles · 16/10/2022 23:40

I had this for years too and found tampons useless, they would just swoosh out!
I used huge incontinence pads plus plastic sheet, mattress cover and large tabbed bed pads.
I also kept old bed sets that I wasn’t too worried about spoiling.
It is totally humiliating and for ages I just wouldn’t go away from home so I do totally sympathise with you.
Nothing I took or tried worked for me until I had a hysterectomy and my god it was so amazing! Wish I had had it years before, totally transformed my life and made me realise how run down I had been.

Meili04 · 16/10/2022 23:44

I have very heavy periods and I've found Ibuprofen seems to stem the flow a bit. Have you tried that ? I'd book an appointment with your GP first thing tomorrow and make sure you are taking iron supplements.

bonzaitree · 16/10/2022 23:46

My aunt used to use incontenence pads. They're designed to absorb a full wee so they're good for overnight.

She was having chemo when it was this bad though, so ultimately you need to see a doctor

curlymom · 16/10/2022 23:50

I hope you are sleeping. I had endometriosis and adenomyosis and had same. Talk to your consultant because if it’s this bad they may give you a one off to reduce bleeding. A and e won’t do anything so no point. It’s part of the condition. Hope you get some rest x

StillWearingJeans · 16/10/2022 23:53

I second the suggestion of looking into having a Mirena coil. My periods were so bad in my early forties that I couldn't leave the house. Had a Mirena fitted, and never had another period. Life changing.

toogoodforthisworld · 16/10/2022 23:56

My nurse daughter advised to double up on the largest sanitary towels - but cut a small hole in the top one. So the blood is also absorbed by the 2nd one.
I wear a super tampon- double sanitary towels - and period knickers on the 2 days and nights that my period is horrendous. And I change the sanitary towels every 1-2 hours.
And I sleep with a bathtowel folded double under my fitted sheet but over my mattress protector..
it's so much bloody work changing my bed! Excuse the pun! Lol
Good luck - it's shit. Have you had your iron levels checked recently? Xx

mathanxiety · 16/10/2022 23:58

Take photos of your clots and go to A&E with a few of your soaked pads.

Getofftheladder · 17/10/2022 00:33

Incontinence pants and moo cup was what I used to have to do. I soaked through a night pad every hour. It took me measuring my loss using mooncup before I got taken seriously. I’ve got adenomyosis, now on the mini pill and get no periods at all.

get some iron in you, I swear by Guinness but tablets are better. Don’t be afraid to go back to doctor for change in treatments.

tensmumm · 17/10/2022 00:46

I sympathise. I'm up every 2 hours with it, changing the bed and sore from changing myself etc. It's really exhausting, stressful, painful and upsetting. I'm sorry you go through this too.

Lessofallthisunpleasantness · 17/10/2022 00:50

I would use a cup pad and period pants. How many days do you bleed this heavily for? I always have one incredibly heavy day, when I really can't easily leave the house.

ThereIbledit · 17/10/2022 00:56

I've been there. I hope you have a good night's sleep and get to the bathroom in time in the morning. I ended up putting towels down on the floor as well at my worst, because getting out of bed after a couple of hours sleep was hideous, if I'd have been able to sleep sat on the loo I would have done.

There is a facebook group you might find helpful, called menhorragia support group. Lara Briden's books, website and podcast may also be helpful for you.

A lot of people swear by ginger root tablets or ginger of any kind to help reduce their flow.

I don't know what type of bed pad you have, but I have both a mattress protector that is waterproof on the back, and a "smaller" (still pretty big!) blue pad for incontinence that tucks in both sides of the bed and keeps it secure even though I'm a proper wriggle bum. The top pad is both absorbant and waterproof backed, so any leaks have landed on that, and not even made it as far as the sheet, which is a relief and much easier to deal with.

Look for incontinence products, rather than period products - they are designed to hold SO much more. Lots of us swear by the Always full incontinence briefs. I've had some success with some fairly cheap post-partum pads from Amazon, although nothing deals with the clots, they all just sit on top. If you are in the UK you can talk to Minivivi who make reusable sanpro and incontinence pads and she has some fabrics and products that help with the gushes, if you get those.

Finally, I had huge success with a medical herbalist's prescriptions, and their recommendations to eat more phytoestrogens.

Very best of luck to you. It's atrotious, and GPs are shit about it.

Ponderingwindow · 17/10/2022 02:53

I see you are off to sleep, but for the future…

Before reusable pads became easily available, I used to have to make my own because of allergies. You could make a quick one out of anything absorbent. Really you just need to fold up a pieces of old vest top or towels. It’s not ideal, but it would get you to morning.

glitterfarts · 17/10/2022 02:58

I took a large clot in a tupperware container (size of my palm) to the gp and said, this is not normal.

I also used a moon cup so could measure my blood loss to an extent and was filling to overflowing the 25ml cup 10+ times a day for 3 days.

He took me seriously, booked gynae referral for 3 weeks, endometrial ablation done, life changing. No more periods, just a little spotting for a panty liner.

Still get bowel bleeding every month which I assume is endometrial.

HighlandPony · 17/10/2022 03:32

I’m currently about the same but it’s post partum bleeding. I’ve used a ten pack of maternity pads today and I didn’t even get up till half ten. I’m on the settee with a single bed bedwetter cover on it, a quilt covering it and towels over that. Three loads of washing a day

mathanxiety · 17/10/2022 03:37

@HighlandPony
You need to go to A&E.

Go asap.

I don’t. I’ve been having regular womb scans because of complications after birth. I’ve had a balloon catheter in a few times and I’ve had tablets meant to stop it but made it worse. I’m in at 8.45 tomorrow and 13.45 on Wednesday for further womb scans. The last thing I need is to be anywhere near the hospital that has the a&e.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 17/10/2022 09:45

How are you this morning? @Corncrunch

Corncrunch · 17/10/2022 13:33

Much better flow is so much more less than yesterday in more pain but hot water bottle and pain relief is working

OP posts:
HighlandPony · 17/10/2022 13:41

There’s a tablet called norohisterone (I’ve probably spelt that wrong) that you take three times a day. Have you asked about that or tried it?

Glad to hear you feel better. Just be carful as hot water bottle in the area can make it worse. I see do ladies were advised against as it makes the blood come to the area. Have a nap x

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 17/10/2022 16:06

@Corncrunch just glad you are feeling a bit better. Please take it easy if you can.

Corncrunch · 17/10/2022 16:09

@HighlandPony Yes I have norohisterone for stopping my periods it works for holidays etc but as soon as I’m of it my period comes back way worse after

HighlandPony · 17/10/2022 16:12

Ah I see. I only thought of it because that’s what I got then gynae said I shouldn’t have that’s for endo. Glad to hear you’re a bit better today.
