Filling a pad every hour what shall I do tonight

Corncrunch · 16/10/2022 22:10

Have endometriosis normally heavy but all day it’s been constant filling a pad every hour leaked through my pyjamas and stained the bed. The huge clots are massive I have a bed pad but it moves a lot and worried about the rest of my sheets what can I do. I did think a Tena nappy but the shops are shut.

I do super tampon and then 2 pads (one normal position and the second across the back of my pants). Then a few towels on the bed. I empathise, horrible to go through. You really do need it sorting though OP as you can't carry on like this. I've had mirena 4mths now which has helped massively.

Lovemusic33 · 16/10/2022 22:50

I used to be like this too. I would sleep on a old towel and wear a large pad inside a pair of period pants. It was awful.

I had endometrial ablation a year ago in hope to stop my periods altogether, it didn’t work but it has made my periods less heavy.

Decisionfatiguequeen · 16/10/2022 22:51

Double up on everything, pads, knickers and take ibuprofen to help slow the flow overnight. Using a mooncup with backup pads has been really helpful in managing heavy clotty periods for me.

DoItAfraid · 16/10/2022 22:54

Mefenamic acid from out of hours asap. Sorry for what you are experiencing. You need your bloods run as well.

Corncrunch · 16/10/2022 22:54

I also don’t have the energy to sit in a and e for 6 hours + hot water bottle and bed is want I need if it’s still bad i can go tomorrow

I have had this in the past, it's shit. Does transxemic acid reduce your bleeding?

Corncrunch · 16/10/2022 22:55

I have mefenamic acid and I am taking it I’ve been lax on the transanamic acid the last couple of months as my periods seemed to be better. But this month I was proved wrong

OP posts:
Corncrunch · 16/10/2022 22:56

Transanamic acid does help it’s noticeable but I’m still heavy

And the chances you are anaemic as a result are high. Take iron tablets and eat iron-rich food.

Glad it helps, take it.
You could ask for a referral to a consultant?

tictoc76 · 16/10/2022 23:00

do you have any young children at home? If so use a nappy! Much more absorbent and better size than period pads

flippetyflaps · 16/10/2022 23:01

I second the Mirena, it was life changing for me. I went for it after soaking through a white chair at a black tie dinner. Thanks fully I was wearing a black dress and people were sympathetic. I have adenomyosis but haven't had a period for years now due to the Mirena.

nonstoprenovation · 16/10/2022 23:06

Oh god I feel your pain, fellow endometriosis sufferer here, currently in the bath trying to soothe my back and cramps.

Giving my poor bits a break from the pads and paper and abrasion of trying to stop blood.

I've just decided to go back on the combined pill against GP advice, they won't do anything at all in a&e, they even roll their eyes the moment you say you have endometriosis.. you get the "oh here comes another one with a period" look they won't give you hot water, or pain relief, they just put a canual in and send you home with a prescription for a UTI. I really wish I was joking!

So for me tonight bath, toilet, pads, I can't use tampons they hurt, then pill to try and just give me a break and stop the periods. I've heard the mini pill works as well have you tried all of these I imagine, please don't listen to them if they offer zolodex.

I'm yet to buy period pants? I really can't get my head around how they actually work when I'm loosing clots? Don't you just end up with your bits covered in clots?? Sorry 😞 TMI but could anyone let me know how they work for heavy flow?

Corncrunch · 16/10/2022 23:07

I’m currently trying for a baby bath well waiting 5 months to start but after that im
having the Mirena I’ve seen many constants private doctors had surgery 2 times. I’ve Spent copious amounts of money on tens machines, homeopathic, heat pads, cbd cream, massage therapy, pelvic therapy, vitamins, bed pads if it claims it may help I have it.

Phone 111 my lovely. This level of blood loss is not normal

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 16/10/2022 23:12

If you are losing that much blood, please seek medical advice ASAP. 111 or A&E or 999. Do not wait until morning.

Do you have cramps?

Corncrunch · 16/10/2022 23:14

Yes I have cramps I’ve been to a and e before and they help with the pain but not the blood loss I’ve got Morphine for at home now

My daughters peadatrician told me that ibuprofen slows the flow. (She has started her period) not sure if you have tried ibuprofen but worth a go.

Signeduptosimplyreplytothis · 16/10/2022 23:17

Honestly a&e is where you need to be. I've been for similar blood loss before and was admitted to gynae for IV TXA.

If you're adamant you don't want to go keep any eye on signs of anaemia, if you feel woozie and get short of breath go in. But if you have a baby bodge a giant pad from one of their nappies, bin bag on the bed/under the sheet, and towels to boot. Prepare for an unsettled sleepless night

MytummydontjigglejiggleItfolds · 16/10/2022 23:19

Obviously not a long term solution like ablation/Morena etc, but to protect your bed look for inco pads - they're blue plastic backed so fluid can't soak through - Amazon will do them, puppy training pads are the same but more expensive, you can pick them up at pet stores. You'll sit in your own blood of there's lots but it won't soak through. Sorry OP 😞

HoobleDooble · 16/10/2022 23:22

I had the Mirena, bled lightly but continuously for 3 months then the bleeding crescendoed up over a couple of days and spat the bloody thing out a couple of weeks ago! I use Lillets Ultra tampons alongside night time Bodyform towels and my bladder wakes me up every few hours anyway so I just change when I get up for a wee.

Omg wow! What a shock.

1dontunderstand · 16/10/2022 23:28

I’ve had this over the past year. Changing pads every hour so I started to use tampons and pads which lasted a bit longer but I was still having to change my clothes about twice a day if I wasn’t quick enough.
I now use a moon cup and a pad as a back up. Still emptying my moon cup every hour or 2, luckily my period tends to only be heavy for one or two days.

SpuytenDuyvil · 16/10/2022 23:28

You poor thing, OP. I am not sure how old you are or if you already have DC. I had a hysterectomy about 10 years after I had my DC and it was life-changing. I hope that doesn't sound insensitive but, for me, 40 years of misery ended overnight.

marylou25 · 16/10/2022 23:29

Not much help to you really but the Joe Duffy show on radio in Ireland did several programmes on endo over past week or so, I only heard parts of them but you can listen to the podcasts, very informative stuff, many had gone abroad for treatment.
