Tesco is out of stock for everything - we’re doomed!

Logged onto the Tesco site this morning to book a slot for early November. Everything is showing out of stock! Perhaps they know something we don’t…
Apparently they only have one type of red wine to sell (Malbec) and that’s out of stock, too. Gonna be a long and hard winter.🙁

I’ve searched a few things, pasta/beans/tinned fruit on their website and it’s not showing out of stock. It might be a local thing? I’m in Somerset, if that makes any difference.

No tomato ketchup of an kind in my Tesco for 2weeks now.

There's plenty in other shops.

HollyGoLoudly1 · 16/10/2022 12:22

Absolutely no problems in any of the supermarkets where we are. Maybe it's regional.

Maireas · 16/10/2022 12:23

This thread is a terrible advert for Tesco.

There is a plethora of veg and everything else on the Ocado website although I can see that doesn't fit the shit stirring agenda.

Ocado for me right now.

Although there are some courgettes in stock the cheaper ones are out of stock.

What I don’t get is how it can be regional with Ocado. Although they have a number of regional hubs you’d think they be able to distribute stuff around the company.

Yea I’ve gone back to Ocado. More expensive, but at least it turns up 😀

mamabear715 · 16/10/2022 12:26

@RedToothBrush I agree, re extra petrol etc.. I don't drive but your idea of walking to a local shop to avoid buying excess things is a good one. Obviously if you have to do a top-up online, it's £40 order minimum - ouch! Although I do order things that are cheaper there to stock up on those. But there's no 'cheap' shopping anywhere now, is there?

mandolinwind · 16/10/2022 12:28

Whilst there is often stock unavailability for some items when ordering from Tesco online (especially salad vegetables and meat early in the morning) and some items continued to be rationed, this looks more likely a website glitch.

I order a weekly C&C via the website and some browsers work better with the site than others, eg Chrome works better than Opera.

mamabear715 · 16/10/2022 12:28

@Maireas I don't blame Tesco.. Asda (my second choice) seem just as bad.. I'm a smoker (baaaad person!) & don't get how both supermarkets run out of my brand so often? Brexit? Ukraine? Hard to see how either of those could impact ciggies.. :-0

Morrisons Manchester. No pork pie or scotch egg availability.}

No pork pies or scoth eggs here either but then I live in France.
Courgettes have rocketed in price but then as noted the summer droughts were brutal across Europe. I was missing green chili peppers and had to resort to buying Tabasco and red chili paste. Mortified my 'economy' wine at €2.19 bottle is now at €2.74 after 3 years but I have 'traded down' to another at €2.31. Still a bottle lasts me 3 days so hardly disastrous. Shopping 'seasonally' is definitely a thing for me and grabbing the 'offers' widens the repertoire.

toomuchlaundry · 16/10/2022 12:31

Went to our local supermarket yesterday and there was no flour on the shelves. Took me right back to 2 years ago.

My courgette crop has been abysmal this year. Normally we are trying to think of different ways of incorporating courgettes into a meal as we have glut. This year I think we had enough for 2 meals 😔

Ilovetocrochet · 16/10/2022 12:32

No problem with my order yesterday, there were no substitutions and nothing missing, spent over £70 on a large range of items.

@Numbat2022 I think Brexit might be more relevant than Covid for this.

When all else fails, blame Brexit.

That was 2016.

Yawn.

😴

Brexit ate my hamster

As many pp have said, it's got to be regional, as some of us haven't seen shortages at all, and all the shelves are full.
Who knows.

ILoveYoga · 16/10/2022 12:38

I can see ordering things for November as showing out of stock. I just did my Ocado shop, for tomorrow, and the only thing on my list out of stock were courgettes so I’ll be stopping at lidl. I popped in for a top up shop yesterday and they had courgette. Yes, lots of freezers were gone but instead they had full compliment of Xmas things (not requiring fridge/freezer)

on the shortages, it should be noted that I was recently in the states, they’re having stock issues too. Plenty of food but may not be all you’re used to. So it’s not Brexit if other countries having similar issues. (Also the same for price of petrol, electricity etc).

MurderOfBirds · 16/10/2022 12:40

I tried 4 different supermarkets for courgettes recently abd couldn't find a single one!

Maireas · 16/10/2022 12:41

Blimey. There's a lot of love for courgettes on here! I don't usually buy them.

thenightsky · 16/10/2022 12:41

I've just logged onto my online Tesco order and nothing is missing.

Benjispruce4 · 16/10/2022 12:42

Just been to Aldi- fully stocked.

dailyfup · 16/10/2022 12:42

It's not Brexit - or it's not just Brexit.
I live in Austria and it is the same here - and also in Bavaria where I shop quite regularly as it is way cheaper than Austria.
This all started during the pandemic due to various supply chain issues and is still an ongoing problem.
The Austrian government have not helped the situation by regularly warning us of "blackouts" and what we need to be prepared to live two weeks without electricity. Each time they think of something else we should be "hamstering" as it's called here (hamstern), whatever it is sells out and then there's issues getting it for several weeks.
But in addition to that I've noticed the cheaper varieties of everything selling out. There are still problems with sunflower oil due to the Ukraine war and as a result, other oils too. We still have a limit of two bottles per person of any kind of oil - so can't get two sunflower, two olive, two rapeseed etc.
Also lots of other products are out of stock at different times.

There is still plenty of food, no need to panic. However, it does mean being more flexible when shopping. I also shop differently to pre-pandemic. I used to use up everything in the cupboards and then buy new eg. oil, chopped tomatoes etc.
Now I always have one of each in reserve and replace when the second last packet of a particular item runs out.

RobertsRadio · 16/10/2022 12:45

It's obviously a technical fault/glitch. Let's not panic just yet. No major shortages in my local Sainsburys, Lidl or Waitrose, My click and collect order from Sainsburys on Friday had everything I ordered, no subs at all. I'm in the south east, if that makes any difference.

RobertsRadio · 16/10/2022 12:48

And re the shortage of courgettes, that may be due to coming towards the end of their UK growing season.

Maireas · 16/10/2022 12:50

Good points, @dailyfup - it's interesting because my sister lives in Stockholm and was saying the same.

Queuesarasarah · 16/10/2022 09:52

I notice that Brexiteers are strangely quiet on their whole ‘project fear’ slur. Turns out it was an economically disastrous plan, just as many people said.

Yes, it’s a complete mystery how any country manages to survive outside the EU. It’s not as if the government had years to prepare for it either…

Brigante9 · 16/10/2022 12:53

Asda was perfectly well stocked yesterday.
