Where could I live in London for £750k?

No kids. 1 bedroom flat is fine. 2 would be preferable but I appreciate it might be a stretch to get anything at all with that budget.

I really like Kentish town and prefer zone 2. Ideally I'd like to be near a fairly good high street hence Kentish town and I just really like the area. I have relatively little knowledge of other parts of London so any help would be appreciated. TIA

How central do you want to be? Someone I know is selling a two bed on the river, overlooking Southwark bridge for that price.

Donotgogentle · 15/10/2022 17:06

Erm . . . crazy suggestion but Kentish Town? You’d get a decent / bed for that budget.

Is this a stealth boast post?

KentishWay · 15/10/2022 17:06

I'm not too fussed about being central so long as the local high street has s good range of shops/restaurants but good tube access would be preferable.(I'm open to other forms of transport so long as they're fairly regular and reliable.)

Er no, Is this a stealth boast post?

With London prices my budget is unlikely to go too far even if it's a rather healthy budget where I currently live so I want to consider other areas as I don't have an indepth knowledge of London unfortunately.

Ah, sorry, didn’t realise you meant areas other than Kentish Town.

Angel?

Pretty average budget for London so why a stealth boast?

HappyHamsters · 15/10/2022 17:11

Do you need any particular tube line. That budget will find many flats.

CentralLondonLife · 15/10/2022 17:12

Westminster Pimlico south bank

virtually anywhere with that budget

what do you enjoy doing and how close do you want to be to that?

HappyHamsters · 15/10/2022 17:13

Do you prefer purpose built, conversion, garden, which floor would you prefer, quiet area or buzz.

CentralLondonLife · 15/10/2022 17:13

You prefer zone 2 to zone 1?

cultkid · 15/10/2022 17:15

There's always always always a post about stealth boast when money is mentioned
It's anonymous forum so people can be transparent

Yes 750k is a good budget. It doesn't get you heaps in London.

I love it in Stoke Newington but I don't know much about prices and it's possibly a bit far out but it has great places to eat and a high street full of shops. Lovely park, too. We did a home swap there and it felt like a good place.

TedMullins · 15/10/2022 17:18

Considering a bought a one bed flat in London for 205k last year, your budget is huge for a flat. You’ll pretty much have your pick of any area you like (aside from zone 1). If you like Kentish Town then - and this is a crazy idea I know - buy in Kentish Town?

beonmywaythen · 15/10/2022 17:19

Hempstead Heath or angel are my favourites. You need to think about what you want really

TedMullins · 15/10/2022 17:19

Oh, and you’d get a 3 or possibly even 4 bed terrace, or a 2/3 bed semi for that price where I am. Zone 4 admittedly but overground and rail links go to London Bridge in 15 mins

KentishWay · 15/10/2022 17:20

No particular tube line. I WFH. A postage stamp garden would be nice as I have a small dog but not entirely necessary if I can't stretch to it.

My ideal would be a home on a quiet street that's very close to the high street. I found a street exactly like that in KT but there's nothing currently for sale. I am looking at KT but I don't want to miss out on another area that might be equally perfect for me.

I enjoy museums, theatre occasionally and pottering about. I love bookshops, nice cafes and interesting shops.

BIWI · 15/10/2022 17:20

Where do you need to get to for work? Or are you WFH?

KentishWay · 15/10/2022 17:21

You prefer zone 2 to zone 1?

I do. I definitely would consider Zone 1 but I feel like Zone 2 is the sweet spot for me.

Lease that officially allows dogs is harder
most just turn a blind eye

Lndnmummy · 15/10/2022 17:25

I would look at south east london. Lovely high streets with parks and you could get outside soace
too for your budget.

TedMullins · 15/10/2022 17:25

Have you thought of Herne Hill or Crystal Palace? Tooting (Broadway not bec) as well. They all have good high streets. Muswell Hill too if you want to stay north. Walthamstow? Hampstead? Camden? Bermondsey?

Leverton Street is lovely, this one has a small garden.

emsyj37 · 15/10/2022 17:26

With 750k and a dog I would buy a 2 bed terraced house with a little garden in West Greenwich.

Theredjellybean · 15/10/2022 17:27

that is healthy budget for a 1 bed flat
