Just wondered your thoughts if you had

OP posts:

Anyone charging money for it is a charlatan. It's absolute nonsense

Badger1970 · 21/10/2022 13:15

I had a session once, and it made me feel incredibly relaxed afterwards.

Would I pay regularly? No, I'd just run a hot bath with some nice aromatherapy candles lit - way cheaper.

It is complete and utter bollocks. How is having someone’s hands hovering over you going to do anything? Absolute nonsense.

Mist say I tend to agree
I know someone advertise says that they do it over teams which is even more bizarre
Personally I think it is a scam

But no-one is conning, mis-selling or promising anything? What's the deception here?

What? Of course they are. Look up any random practitioner’s website, they all promise “healing”. One I just looked at says:

“Reiki can help any issues of body or mind, from minor cuts and bruises to common colds and the flu, infections, chronic illnesses and serious injuries”.

Utter bullshit.

prettylittlethingss · 21/10/2022 13:23

I know a lot of spiritual people- I have mixed feelings of it. Look into the 'energy stealing'.

2bazookas · 21/10/2022 14:00

Yes I have had it; and it was amazing.

I sit firmly on the fence - many years ago my dm bought us both a training experience where I ‘graduated’ and can give Reiki to myself and others - I was happy to do a thing with dm and it was an interesting experience but they were clear that there was no need for me to subscribe to any belief system - and it would still ‘work’. Over the years, I’ve been in situations where hope has completely gone and in those moments it has been a privilege to offer the simple act of laying on (or near) hands. I’ve ‘given’ it to dying relatives, mothers in labour, people suffering acute or chronic pain who are in extreme crisis, following giving first aid while waiting for ambulance, following bereavement. I’ve also given it to pets who are dying or unwell. Not as a cure but to offer a physical act of compassion during the situation. It also helps me. Without wanting to delve into the woo - I also have a side interest in particle physics and theoretical physics - and I’m learning that the tiniest stuff in our universe isn’t really made of anything - just folds in space time making matter - obviously that’s my very basic understanding but my point is - it’s not magical or supernatural - the universe is and we know that we don’t know what’s going on at the sub-atomic levels so who’s to say what’s happening!

@trashcanjunkie this is fascinating. I can’t remember where but I read about how our subatomic matter interacts with the matter of everyone we meet and there’s a line of thinking that this could explain how we “know” when someone close to us is in distress or even on the other end of a ringing phone. We become connected. I love all that stuff!

You're right. There are many charlatans who make claims in any health or wellbeing product or service.

I guess it's up to the individual to do research for themselves and get recommendations before parting with any money.

Personally I have found Reiki to be nothing but a positive experience all round and would recommend anyone to at least try it if they are curious.

Chloefairydust · 21/10/2022 16:11

I’m trained in angelic reiki , it’s not for everyone and some people find it a bit woo. However there’s definitely something in it, when giving reiki I can feel a heat and tingling sensation through my arms/ hands. When receiving the treatment myself, I can see colours, like a swirling purple aura or something, also a feeling of being energetically charged. It’s actually really good when suffering with any kind of fatigue.

WeAreTheHeroes · 21/10/2022 16:18

Weird how two people have described having what very much sound like migraines afterwards. Of that's the case then it's deffo not for me as I get enough of them without help.

I have always though reiki was up there mediums: utter bollocks. Iirc Nasty Nick from Big Brother claimed he was a reiki practitioner.

Zippedydoo123 · 21/10/2022 16:46

It is most definitely not fraud. How anybody can criticise it unless they have tried it.

Like any alternative therapies people have preferences and different experiences.

For the record I enjoy a hopi ear candle sesh too.

LeMoo · 21/10/2022 16:53

@Wibbly1008 they stick a candle in your ear and light it. No idea what it's supposed to do.

BertieBotts · 21/10/2022 16:53

My mum does it. It's very relaxing but TBH I think it's the dim lights nice music quiet room lie down for half an hour thing.

I've never felt anything magical from it. It did used to make DS1 kick loads in my tummy though, but perhaps that was because I was lying down and had nothing else to focus on? DM did it for me in labour and all the midwives were amazed and said they'd rarely seen someone so calm, but I achieved the same level of calmness in labour with DS3 when DM was not there, so maybe it wasn't the Reiki Grin I don't know. It doesn't do any harm, but I wouldn't set loads of store by it. It's on the fringe of some quite exploitative belief systems really.

FelicityFidget · 21/10/2022 18:28

I used to think it was utter bollocks.

Then I had cancer and a lot of trauma that goes with it. It's left me with massive anxiety.

Reiki is something I now use to control that and I find it very enjoyable. The light touch reiki is great.

For everyone saying it's shit have you tried it? Or just dismissing it?

gluenotsoup · 21/10/2022 19:48

@partystress , that’s really interesting! I had my dd after the reiki, following recurring miscarriages, any other times where I just wasn’t conceiving. At the time of the reiki session the intense heat I felt was over my womb area and I conceived within days of the session. I think it definitely helped. So … 2 reiki babies, any more?🙂

Yes I have tried it. It's bollocks. How can someone waving their hands over you do anything. People may feel relaxed but that's nothing to do with reiki

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 21/10/2022 21:53

She doesn't wave hands over at mine, she holds parts of my body, it's really soothing and permission to relax. Then she gives me a head massage ❤️

partystress · 21/10/2022 23:29

@gluenotsoup I have two now too! Youngest is 19, so we’re going back a while. Odds were very definitely against us so I have wondered whether something unblocked somehow. Lovely to hear your story after what must have been a lot of heartache.

Have you heard of radionics? I've just started reading an old book I found on it, the author keeps referring to quantum physics etc

CantStartaFireWithoutaSpark · 21/10/2022 23:39

I’ve done it 3 times. I do it when life gets too much.

I love the relaxation, the sensations, the advice at the end is usually spot on!

im a big fan, but I found a very very good practitioner

trashcanjunkie · 22/10/2022 13:01

No I haven’t but I see a wormhole ahead of me 😝

Chickenvoicesinmyhead · 22/10/2022 19:18

A wonderful by-product of some of my cases was psychic experiences. Absolutely fascinating.
