What constitutes a weekend for you?

Just that really.

When does the weekend start and end for you? I'm trying to arrange a meet up with old friends and it seems that we have different views on what is a 'weekend'

Two days off together.

But my partner works in retail and I'm self employed so those two days might be Wednesday Thursday for example and are very rarely Saturday and Sunday.

MayFlower22 · 14/10/2022 23:02

Saturday and Sunday.

giggly · 14/10/2022 23:02

Saturday and Sunday as I’m too gubbed to do anything on a Friday night.

Teaseall · 14/10/2022 23:11

Thanks for the quick replies.

So, if one of us said I can't do bonfire weekend (5th happens to be a Saturday and we are all English so know when it is), would you offer the 4th (the Friday) as a potential meet up date?

This is light hearted, I'm just trying to work out if I have a different definition than my friends.

pinkolu · 14/10/2022 23:14

I thought you were trying to book a weekend away but you just want to meet up at some point over the weekend?

If it's a night out id say Friday or sat night, lunch date or coffee I'd say Saturday or Sunday. Evening meal would be Friday or Saturday, if not too late/boozy then Sunday would be an option

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 14/10/2022 23:17

Weekend starts when I finish work at 1 on a Saturday... sometimes earlier. ThEn I never work sundays.

Yea I'd say Friday night counts as the weekend.

Teasall · 14/10/2022 23:26

@pinkolu the meet up hasn't been defined yet, it could be any of them.

At this stage it's just trying to agree dates when we could potentially meet for any of those options including a night out two away ... which brings me back to my question as to what actually constitutes a weekend.

We all have commitments but we are also all able to be flexible given enough notice ...which make it like herding cats 😁

Weekend = Friday night and Saturday night. Saturday day, Sunday brunch at a push, then starting to get head back in gear for the week ahead.
Sunday night is still weekend but definitely not for socialising. It’s TV, bath and early night

MeowMeowPowerRangers · 14/10/2022 23:35

Friday evening to Sunday afternoon.

Teasall · 14/10/2022 23:37

@WarrickDavisAsPlates so, if one of the group said they couldn't meet that weekend, you wouldn't offer the Friday evening as an option I assume?

<please remember, this is light hearted, I am just trying to work out how things are so difficult sometimes Grin)

There isn’t one day of the week we are all off work together. There was one day a week for a few years but mostly weekends haven’t existed for us as a family.

avamiah · 15/10/2022 00:09

When my darling 12 year old daughter decides to stay at her dads house or her aunties on a Friday evening after school and she returns home Sunday early evening.

😉😉

Dragonskin · 15/10/2022 00:12

Finishing work on Friday until Sunday evening

CuriousCatfish · 15/10/2022 00:20

Starts Friday afternoon when I finish work. Ends Sunday night.

2pinkginsplease · 15/10/2022 00:23

For me the weekend starts at 6pm on a Friday as that’s when I finish work for the weekend to begin.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 15/10/2022 00:23

Weekend starts on Friday afternoon and ends on Sunday when i go to bed.

Wildernesstips · 15/10/2022 06:35

Like others have said Friday eve to Sunday afternoon. If I said I couldn’t do that weekend that might also write off the Friday eve. If I was already planning to be full on busy on the Sat/Sun, I would need some time to myself on the Friday eve, so would also class that as not available.

ChakaKhanfan · 15/10/2022 06:38

Yeah if someone said to me they can’t do that weekend, I would include Friday night as the weekend.

Dazedandconfused10 · 15/10/2022 06:44

Starts 5pm Friday, ends Sunday night, but in my life rules Sunday is not a day for socialising, its my one day to myself where I see no one and chill before the week ahead

mindutopia · 15/10/2022 08:01

If someone said they couldn’t do a particular weekend and the request was for a weekend away, I might ask do you want to meet up for dinner on Friday instead if you’re free? If it’s for just a night out, I would assume they meant Friday night as well.

That said, why not just suggest dates? I think a weekend implies you are looking for dates to go away for a whole weekend. But if just a night out is an option, why not just say, are you free to meet up on the 30th or the 14th? Or if not suggest a date that works for you?

pinkolu · 15/10/2022 08:03

Personally if I said I'm not free the weekend of xxx I wouldn't be free from Friday night through til the Sunday. Otherwise I'd said I'm not free on Saturday the 5th (for example)

liveforsummer · 15/10/2022 08:14

Friday night is definitely part of the weekend of the 5th. To me the weekend starts on Friday anyway as dc and I finish work/school at 12 but even that aside I'd assume they aren't free on the Friday otherwise they'd have been more specific than saying 'the weekend of'

MeowMeowPowerRangers · 14/10/2022 23:35

Friday evening to Sunday afternoon.

This for me too. It feels like the weekend as soon as I pick the kids up Friday from school and I would never go out on a Sunday night as there is far too much to do to prepare for Monday.
